I finished BMT a week and a day ago and I’m at tech right now. I watched your videos before going and it really wasn’t that bad looking back some parts were actually fun. For anyone going to basic don’t be scared and go for it!
Kids these days are so lucky. There are literally thousands of videos on what to expect every minute of the day during BMT. Back when i enlisted in the Fall of 1989, i didn’t sleep a wink the night before. The definition of anxiety is the way I felt in the middle of the night the morning we departed for San Antonio.
That’s a good point. I’m watching these videos and they have REALLY helped me be able to wrap my head around what’s going to happen. I can’t imagine not knowing anything😂 thank you for your service🇺🇸❤️
The arrival to USAF basic training and getting off the bus will be the hardest part; you will get yelled at for about an hour. This is just a wake-up call to get you in the mindset of being in the service and the TI’s (Training Instructors) will not touch you. I don’t even recall any of them even cursing at me. The first night in bed was the only time I second guessed my decision because it's a what the hell just happened... It’s just a teardown build-up process getting you into the mindset to react without second guessing, which at some point might just save your life.
From what I’ve observed during my time; of the four services the USAF treats its members the best.
I just graduated bmt June 2,2022 I also watched your videos before going in. It wasn’t bad honestly. You just have to get use to the fact that you are on someone elses time and that you aren’t there for yourself, it’s not about one person succeeding. It’s everyone.
Basic is the first step into a bigger world. AF basic compared to the other services is easier but just as important. As a former TI, my advice is to arrive motivated, in top physical condition, and mentally tough. Learn as fast as your can, and help your fellow Airman. My 24-year career was not about me it was about we. We spent much of our lives in the middle east during OIF and OEF. Iraq and Afghanistan. Most important is to have fun, study, and become the expert at your job. Not to show up the people that work with you, but to solve the issues that will come up. Issues you can help solve because of your knowledge. Thank you to everyone for serving and keeping us safe.
Yayy you’re back!! I’m shipping out September 6th and I honestly really needed this video because I’m starting to get super nervous and questioning if I’m doing the right thing and this definitely helped a lot. I ended up getting Public Affairs too!!

I plan on joining during or the end of summer!! Of 2023 I still have 25-30 lbs to lose and have been Nervous about the physical part of BMT thank you for sharing ! Helped a lot !!
Good video but, I have been and I have been more recently and I can tell you that it is indeed scary. It is intimidating and there’s nothing you can do about. It is hard. But you can’t just run away from every difficult thing in life. You have to face your fears and do hard stuff. The more you run away from hard stuff in life the more lame you become. Just keep your head down people! You get through it one day, one hour, one minute at a time. And don’t not do it because you think it’ll be hard!

To be completely honest my main concern is what to do or where to go. I am getting my AA going to a bachelors before I think of joining (maybe). Going to a tech school never came into my plan of schooling or working for the military. I was gonna join the Air Force to get free college to pay for med school. I enjoy how things are run in the military, but alot of their rules bum me out. I have pink hair and piercings in my ears and nose. I don’t really wanna get rid of my hair color but I do understand there’s a dress code. I also have a side shave so I’m not sure how to appropriately wear my hair, I’m guessing I’d have to go for a new style, possibly short. I also never planned on joining in the first place. I was going into an art path but now I’m heading down a path into anesthesia. I wouldn’t mind joining a medical group on a base, in the Eglin one in Florida is one where I’m planning on job shadowing in. I’m very conflicted on what to choose or how to go about this. I also have a hard time being yelled at due to past tissues but I’m aware they do it to break you down or try to My family was military and I lived in England for 6 years traveling so while it would be nice to see things again I would rather not deploy anywhere.
In my case I was in the old Alcatraz dorms and BMT was scary IMO I'll be honest the first few weeks were tough but it goes by quick after the first couple weeks
I leave for bmt on the 20th and watching this video helped me calmed some of my nerves since I was more worried about how it’s like with exercising ( running portion ) and when we’re able to use the bathroom. But how does the written test go?
You take the written test at the end of bmt before graduation. You’re in class Monday-Saturday and you’re able to study during downtime. It’s a very easy test. Multiple choice.
I got out of BMT like 3 weeks ago, the written test is super easy! And running is fine, just put all your effort in. Nobody from my flight got recycled for running. I even thought I would be! But I brought my run time down 3 whole minutes. You can use the bathroom whenever you want, they say "You are all adults so you don't have to ask" but I recommend asking during marching/formation otherwise they will get mad. Also don't forget your wingmen. And don't sit on your bed like I did.
what bras do you recommend taking? sports bras that i own/ all i found in stores have removable cups and when i’m at home and do the laundry they literally fall out and get lost in the laundry and i dont want that to happen at bmt.
You get issued a mesh bag in basic that your socks, underwear and bras go in for laundry and the bag has your name. So if they fall out it won't be a big deal.
Hey quick question. Did you bring your own makeup with you or did you buy it when you got there ? And where you able to bring small earrings for your official picture and graduation?
You can’t wear makeup at basic training! You can bring it but you won’t be able to wear it until graduation I’m pretty sure stud earrings are fine if they’re silver or gold
The Air Force is NOT interested in comparing itself to other branches in terms of "easiness" of the training!! The Air Force doesn't feel the need for NON-STOP SCREAMING like the marines!! Also I have one question how safe is beast week? The internet over exaggerates stuff a lot but from what I seen are we gonna be getting bombs thrown at us for 5 days ??😂
I heard that it is actually better if you have no prior firearm experience as there will be nothing to learn. As for beast week I am sure they try and make it safe for the recruits.
does thinking of BMT scare me. the answer is no but the caveat to that is I also have no interest in doing it again. Did it 23 years ago. I'm good now.
Yes, I signed a 6 year contract and joined in 2018. My advice is to have a strong EPR (Enlisted Performance Report). You want to be a well rounded airman, so furthering education, volunteer, strong work bullets, etc. Also, really study for the test. The promotion rate is now lower than it’s been in a long time so it’s going to be more difficult but still obtainable. I made BTZ (below the zone) and put on Senior Airman six months early and then made staff on my first try so that’s how I became a Staff in under four years.
In the RAF we do the gas chamber every year, and I did 38 years! We did do drills in there and if you did them correctly you "shouldn't" get a lung full but you always get some!
Trust me....there's TONS of crayon eating marines that sit in chairs for "serious sitting hours!!". Let's not forget your boss, the US Navy!! They have hundreds of "CHAIR" jobs too!! GO AIR FORCE!!
For me, I have a hard time holding my breath for even short periods, and I cant stay underwater for more than about twenty seconds. Do you think that's gonna be a problem in the gas chamber, or really anything else in basic?
433rd didn’t have doors on all the stalls at least my dorm didn’t. One of the ones that didn’t have a door was right in front of the entrance to the Latrine too. For some reason everyone wanted to use it too. It was weird making eye contact as you enter and see them sitting there 😂😂😂😂

30 is definitely not too old to join!
it's awesome because air force has the highest age average of all the branches.
I'm married and have 1 kid. Will i get paid BAH while in training too? Or will that kick in after i graduate all my training?
While in training too
does thinking of BMT scare me. the answer is no but the caveat to that is I also have no interest in doing it again. Did it 23 years ago. I'm good now.
The air force is the easiest branch of the military. It's kick back compared to army, marines & navy.
Do you have to serve after completing BMT?
Not my life is secret
I really want to get enlisted but I think I’m too short 😂 do you know what’s the height limit to join? Thank you!
Shortest you can be is 4’10
Are you still in your first enlistment? If so, any advice/tips on making staff sergeant in that time frame?
Yes, I signed a 6 year contract and joined in 2018. My advice is to have a strong EPR (Enlisted Performance Report). You want to be a well rounded airman, so furthering education, volunteer, strong work bullets, etc. Also, really study for the test. The promotion rate is now lower than it’s been in a long time so it’s going to be more difficult but still obtainable. I made BTZ (below the zone) and put on Senior Airman six months early and then made staff on my first try so that’s how I became a Staff in under four years.
What was your rank when you enlisted?
Did they make you jump out of a plane
Well its the AF so, no...it wouldn't be scary. Scariest part is probably getting 300 thread count sheets instead of 500....
LOL
My worry is the lenguage im not so good whit the English and some times I don't understand what is the drill Sargent say so im scary
what about SUNSCREEN as a very very very fair-skinned person, i can't be outside for more than about 30 minutes without sunscreen.
Where do your phone be for that eight weeks? Do they take it?
They take your phone and lock it away.
My cardio is terrible how hard is the pt running
as long as you do some training beforehand you'll be fine, nothing too intense maybe just run around the block every few days or some basketball
In the RAF we do the gas chamber every year, and I did 38 years! We did do drills in there and if you did them correctly you "shouldn't" get a lung full but you always get some!
"In my opinion, it is easy"
Yep, no lie there. Those chairs got some serious sitting hours. *laughs in Marine*
Stay safe sister 😁
Trust me....there's TONS of crayon eating marines that sit in chairs for "serious sitting hours!!". Let's not forget your boss, the US Navy!! They have hundreds of "CHAIR" jobs too!! GO AIR FORCE!!
what is beast week
I think they changed beast week into something called Pacer Forge whatever that is
For me, I have a hard time holding my breath for even short periods, and I cant stay underwater for more than about twenty seconds. Do you think that's gonna be a problem in the gas chamber, or really anything else in basic?
No
Hi Mikayla, I was wondering is the air force the easiest job for girls/women? What is the easiest job for girls and what do they do?
Did you figure out the answer? I was wondering the same thing
Can i join airforce at 36?
Yes, the limit is 39
im 36 and joining.
@@ThatEmoGirl hi! How is it going for you?
If you think its scary, you might want to reconsider joining
So there are bathroom stalls with doors? or?
Yes. The toilets are in stalls but showers are in an open room
HAHA not if you go to 326 east side dorms apparently they had no stalls on their toilets but I was on the other side and I had stalls
433rd didn’t have doors on all the stalls at least my dorm didn’t. One of the ones that didn’t have a door was right in front of the entrance to the Latrine too. For some reason everyone wanted to use it too. It was weird making eye contact as you enter and see them sitting there 😂😂😂😂
Can you bring your own hygiene products?
yes but they may or may not make you throw away unmarked stuff!
does the skincare have to be travel sized
I believe so. I don’t remember checking a bag.
NOT US ESPECIAL FORCED
How was the shower ? I fear that because I take long showers 😅
Me too and I’m really nervous about it since I leave Dec 13 😭
@@stephannyavendano lol just wash the main parts of the body that’s stinks 😷🤣
@@stephannyavendano I leave Dec 13th too. See you there lol
My step dad keeps telling me not to tell anyone about my bipolar, depression, and adhd? Will I get in trouble for NOT bringing it up? I’m scared of getting in trouble! Ahhh! Please please help~ thank you for this video
BMT is soft now, and thought it was soft back in 89.
