  • Learn how to make your very own DIY ribbed (or fluted) plaster wainscot with nothing but some DAP Plaster of Paris and some scrap vinyl!
We’ve wanted to try our hand at creating our very own plaster mouldings for a long time. After landing on a design, and finding the right location, it was time to put our money where our mouth was!
After drilling several carefully aligned holes in some leftover Trim-tex vinyl Fast Cap pieces, we created our fluted layout on the accent wall with some quick-setting Plaster of Paris mix from ‪@dapcanada‬ . Once we had our layout set in stone (or plaster in this case), its was simply a matter of layering more and more plaster on top, and filling in the voids with some ready mixed plaster of paris. When we were happy with the aesthetic (we wanted a look of imperfect, organic and hand-made), we picked our height, and using an oscillating multi-tool, cut the fluted plaster back to a perfect uniform line. We did the same on the bottom so that our baseboard could slide underneath and sit flush with the drywall behind.
We learned a lot about what to do, and what NOT to do on this project. We’re happy with the finish, and looking forward to the next DAP project!

Thanks! That was normal all purpose compound and we added a custom chalk paint finish to it. Check out that video on our page too!

If you wanted to do a scallop (so the inverse to what you did here), how would you make the jig?

I've been wanting to do this with concrete outdoors. Thin panels. Thanks for the inspiration.

So, we don't know what colour that was? Love it!

It’s Farrow and Ball - Book Room Red no. 50. The Plaster of Paris seemed to lighten the paints a little, but not significantly.

Why didn't you use regular plaster? Like mp75?
