13 for 13. I need practice! My last flight I did slow flight and stalls in a new to me airplane that had AOA indicator. The typical Cessna stall warning was sounding well before the AOA and making me nervous as the instructor was telling me to slow down and pull back more. The newer plane than what I’m used to with 20 more hp and better aerodynamics took me way past what I was expecting in slow flight performance. Now after reflecting on that experience I’m looking forward to the next round.
13 - 13 I’m going to try this tomorrow when I take to the sky! Still waiting for a DPE, so each of these little tricks you’ve shown lately, I’m putting them to good use while continuing my proficiency training flights. Keep ‘em coming, Jason!
13/13…prepping for my check ride and these videos are an awesome test of practical and verbal knowledge. Pretending I’m on the check-ride and seeing how I stack up. Great tips.
i am getting back into flying after finishing college and its been a while. Videos are very clear and really helping me get back into the swing of things! Thank you!
13 for 13…..a great explanation of what slow flight is about……I’ve always been wary of slow flight, but watching your video has made this less intimidating ….thanks Jason👍👍
13 of 13 - All caught up! As an MzeroA Private Pilot Online Ground School alum, I found your videos very helpful. I'm ashamed to admit that I use to enter the pattern at ~100 kts, but after reviewing your slow flight video, chair flying, and heading out to the practice area - my proficiency in this area quickly improved. Thanks!
13 of 13 Slow Fight!!! Great Lesson!!! You are a Wonderful Teacher!! I look forward to see your next Challenge for us! Be Abundantly BLESSED and Remember 2024 the Year for More and More and More and More of God’s Best for us!!!
I’m doing a slow flight review, but I was never trained with carb heat; just 1500, flaps per interval, and of course, pitch for airspeed, power for altitude.
13/13! The moment I connected slow flight to landing, it clicked. Great showing it slowed it down and calm. Biggest thing is take your time. Took awhile to click for me. Thanks Jason!
13 for 13! In my CFI has me practice a little steeper turns also ...up to 30 degrees of bank. Recommendation is because in the pattern the typical turns typically need to be a little tighter depending on the wind. We practice at a good altitude to get a good feel without worrying about being too low where mistakes could be much more dangerous. Now turning base and final aren't a nervous thing while flying slowly. Obviously I am descending while coming in to land and that is a good thing to practice at altitude also. Pitch for speed and Power for altitude/decent rate. A simple/quick math tip for landing: Once on proper path (PAPIs) a good decent (ft/min): 1/2 your speed and add a zero. It is simple and quick: ex: 70kt / 2 = 35 . Add a zero to it (or 'pad' it) = 350ft/min and you should stay 2 white 2 red (PAPI lights) all the way in. Hopefully that tip may help someone.
Excellent David! I am a class 2 instructor in Canada and I use your technique often and I also use your catch phase of A good pilot is always learning at the end of my preflight briefing to let the student know my briefing is over and we are to going flying! I’m 13 for 13!
This series is great. If I can make a request, I LOVED that long Grand Canyon flight you did a while back and I'd love to see another full length nav flight, start to finish.
13 for 13. I have a time slot to fly this weekend, and slow flight was something that I had already planned on doing. This just solidified that all the more.
Wow! 13-4-13! Super impressive how you use the controls to maintain coordinated flight even as you change the operation! From normal flight to slow flight back to normal flight! Great video!👍🏼
Goondess. I wish thid vid had been available when I was going through private and instrument. Looking forward to commercial with all of the new vids being published. Keep em coming!!
Finally passed my Private Pilot Checkride on 1/13/24 - Thank you so much for these videos, and all your courses! I am excited to continue learning with MzeroA as I go on to IFR and eventually Commercial!
Jason, thank you so much for this series. I’ve been flying for a while now and this review of the different topics has been great. This is not just for new pilots! I fly mostly non towered airports and slow flight is very important to know when the pattern is busy and I need to adjust for other traffic or someone taking time to exit the runway. Fortunately in my Maule I can get it really slow but when this close to the ground you’ve got to really be on it because a stall would be bad.
My first CFI would say to me: "A good pilot should be able to fly with just his finger and his thumb." Years later... who do I hear tell me the same thing? Jason Schappert! Great slow flight video. Shout out to Stephen H. - my first CFI!! (He also used to tell me not to learn from youtube.. haha)
13 for 13. Your slow flight demonstration was the *best* example I've seen in more than 40 years, Jason @MzeroA Flight Training!
13 for 13. Thank you for the video.
13 FOR 13 - as always, Jason gave us great clear context to WHY we do slow flight!
