I'd run my own mail-server if there was an actual guide that went step-by-step. Best I found is a lengthy essay, but he glosses over so much.

Yeah it can be a minefield finding a good guide.

And many of them are old or using old tech.

Sendmail and Postfix, greylisting, and on some VPS out in the wild, with local NAS backup.

Personlly, when it comes to mail. I know that I am not a professional, so I leave to them. I buy an account from Fastmail and point my DNS to them and have them worry about the security.

If you control your own MX records, then you need to buy it for like 10 years at a time!

Not sure I follow, I usually renew my domails 1-3 years at a time, in case I find a better DNS provider, luckily easydns are really good.

@@GaryHTech Sorry, your video triggered a past memory and I somewhat blurted out a comment on your channel.
One time early in my career, I lost a domain specifically for my private email server because the expiration occurred. I wish I had bought it for 10 years instead of one year renewals. It was dovecot and postfix and something else; anyway it was dropping emails. It never saw the expiration warning emails. I couldn't contest it and someone else bought the domain. This was back in the mid 2000s before registrars had mercy. Till this day, the name of my business is the name of my lost domain. Big time screw up.
Good video, I actually never used MailZu front-end. It was a quick demo for me.

Your quickest option probably to jail mailguard with older version of php yeah?

I did consider that but would be a lot of downtime where I set it up. Of I could do back in time it would all be virtual but hard to move now

How do you get past some other email services blocking your email, because they consider it to come from a dynamic ip range? My ISP issued me a static IP and I setup my own mail server no problem. But if I email someone with a Gmail account, the email bounces back and Google reports that it will not be delivered because my server ip is considered as a dynamic ip range. 😢

I think he is running postfix underneath. This thing runs on top of that.

Absolutely correct, postdoc is the MTA

Do you have a postfix or opensmtp guide that is up-to-date? I am curious if the security configuration standards have changed like DMARC, DKIM, SPF, and TLS have changed. And all the other tedious things.
