The one thing you need about crontabs is remembering to back them up. It is one of those things that when you are backing up your system to forget the crontabs.

Useful thing to remember is when running crontabs, anything printed to the standard out or standard error ends up being e-mailed to the user. This means that you should do something with those outputs either on the crontab line or in the command you run to prevent being spammed with stuff you may not want. This is also a great advantage of crontab if you want to use that functionality to gather information.

Thanks for the good timing. I was updating the letsencrypt certificate on an OpenBSD based webserver just hours ago wondering why I didn't make a cron job for that. And suddenly I also realized it would be nice to do backups and scrubs on my own file server (FreeBSD) in a cron job. Humans can be crontabs but they are not that reliable.

It's been a year since I set one of these up, but you don't normally need to log into the arista website other than to purchase/move licenses and if you want to remotely access a device via the arista website. In my experience, you can log directly into the device out of the box and manage it through Chrome at the console for initial setup, then from a browser on the LAN after initial setup. You do need to set up an account and buy licenses if you want more than the included, basic apps.

That why I have stopped selling on ebay or facebook or any other marketplace online. 90% of the responses are scam and it is just too much time wasted replying to these low lifes. If I really need to get rid of something I take it to Cex ( even though It sells for few pounds less) and done with it. These online scams are not worth my time anymore.

The only way to check if you received ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY is to verify your bank account or your Paypal account. That's why banks issue monthly account statements... that you can also check online daily. Never use an email as a proof of payment. EVER!!! It doesn't take a tech-savy person to understand that. Simply a common-sense-savy person...

One really has to be careful these days. Had a duplicate spamming of two of my disposable emails with warning that some crypto platform got hacked, the source from Brazil. For 1 I have never had crypto, for 2 I opened one of those messages as a plain text, skimmed through and deleted all of them. A couple days ago a landline from London called me, me living in a farmland. I searched the number. First it was linked to British Airways luggage claim, never used them. Next the same number used to pretend being British Gas. You see what they did there. Yesterday an unknown mobile phone rang me. I let it ring. No voicemail left. The number seems virgin , no association with it, yet. I forget it, too. Half year ago a cold caller with some of my details rang me, offering trading on Forex. Not interested. Also had a series of missed calls (most missed intentionally), one even from France. They keep trying it! And no, I am not paying to scammers in disguise like deleteme, as my data is already floating cheaply on the dark web and these companies have no reach to them whatsoever. Plaster over a tumour? No, thanks

My wife and I tried this a few years ago. He was brazen enough to show up in our home to check the item, and was working with another guy (“father”) to make it look like that a transfer had gone wrong.

Human waste, im afraid. I routinely get text messages claiming to be the council in reference to a parking fine (i haven't driven a car in 2 years), Post office scams, courier scams, it just goes on and on... All you can do is block, educate others and move on.

Ugh. I guess youtube created an automatic hyperlink on my last comment but yeah, lots of scams out there these days, its a necessity of the time to be vigilant about any transactions we do or mails/text we get.

I'm glad you didn't fall for the scam BUT I disagree with your point about "calling them out on it". That won't accomplish anything, since they won't care. I HIGHLY suggest reporting the incident to PayPal, so they can investigate. If warranted, they (PayPal) might even post an announcement about an increase in phishing email to their customers. It's scary that your wife would have fallen for it. It's imperative to PAY ATTENTION to the clear red flags. I get fake PayPal email on occasion. What's even MORE scary are fake PayPal invoices, so PLEASE make your wife aware of that. A fake PayPal invoice is an invoice actually originating from PayPal. The email notification will come from a legit PayPal email address but the invoice will be for a non-existent charge. It might even appear when you login to your PayPal account. The key here is, the invoice would be completely unsolicited, i.e. you get a "bill out of the blue" for something you don't recognize. Be diligent folks as that's the only way to not be a victim of these scams.

The scumbags are everywhere! My Mrs friend ( a retired hospital sister) fell for the "I've lost my phone" scam not once but twice! Total £2000. My nextdoor neighbour's old mum got scammed out of (wait for it) over £30,000, yes thirty.

My favourite attempted scams are ones telling me that my anti-virus is about to expire,which is fine as I don't use the one's they send me messages about.However you really have to verify everything these days and it wears you down sometimes.This is the down side of the internet and one we don't need.

I'm getting back into FreeBSD again cause i'm really tired of linux bs, I just want a Keep it simple UNIX like system and FreeBSD always been great for me. I use to be a hardcore FreeBSD user at one point and i'm going back to it, your videos really make me think how amazing it was to play around with FreeBSD, great channel and videos.

BSD is a complete package and devs do the entire system as a whole as to linux is 2 seperate projects one is GNU and the other is Linux kernel and they tend to fight a lot as to BSD they are just chilling making a good unix like system :D

BSD cannot be like Linux; Linux can be a full Desktop and full server and fully bloated also...tho.... BSD cannot be full fledged Desktop. It needs Steve Jobs and the Unix BSD engineers behind Darwin BSD and the Apple programmers to build their Desktop env(Cocoa Objective-C/C++ (.m/.mm - And now with Swift) and Apple hardware. So by itself, BSD cannot be a Desktop OS due to its limited hardware support. But has long history of reliability and stability that Linux is far from having them we all know. That is the differences with Linux.
