Lyrics:
Well I'm standing here looking at you
What do I see? I'm looking straight through
It's so sad when you're young
To be told you're having fun
So unplug the jukebox
And do us all a favor, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, that music's lost its taste
So try another flavor

Anyone else old enough to remember how exciting and fresh this sounded the first time you heard it?
hell yeah..
sorry, me died yonks ago (lol)
Yes I do. I went out and bought the singles
Yes!!!!
I can remember as if it were yesterday. Love this so much.
He wasn't trying to copy anyone - and no one could follow him. One of the only real original artists!!!
Absolutely !!
He's clearly got lots of influences here in his look and music.
Influenced by others absolutely - the use of 2 drummers had been a trademark of the Glitter Band in the previous decade. Adam did a good job though!
@@iconoclast673 It isn't so much the use of two drummers that is innovative so much as the creative plundering of African rhythms...
@@wbertie2604 agree absolutely - though one might mention Native American rhythms too
Listening to this in 2024. Stunning song video back then . Hope all still listening now. Adam Ant , great singer/performer.
Me too 56 in 2024! Still listening
Me too 64 in 2024 still listening 😊
57, still listening.
Just turned 52 and still listening.
@legaleagleesq 60 in 2024... Ensuring that my neighbours receive a proper musical education 😂😅
Adam was one cool ass British dude. His unique look and sound were way ahead of the times. His stage presence and moves command attention 😲
Fully agreed! Par excellence
He was an attention seeker too.....80s
Was?
Couldn't have put it better myself.
hes like a mix of elvis and jim morrison with his moves
I've seen a FB comment that says "you know you're old when your favourite music is played at the supermarket".
I literally was doing my groceries at the supermarket about an hour ago ... and listening to THIS. Hadn't heard this in DECADES. I was happily pushing a trolley through the aisles, singing this and got so many weird looks ...I didn't give a shit. In my element. Forgot to grab half my groceries though.
Boy, I miss this era of music.
I bought the album on vinyl in 1980, I was 15 & I played it so many times it drove my parents mad.
I remember the gate fold cover & looking at the photos of Adam & desperately wanting to be as cool as he was.
It is hard for kids now to understand the sheer impact this song had & how popular Adam & the Ants were. Like Star Wars in 77, you just don't see excitement about music & films like that anymore. It makes me sad for this generation, to never have experienced it.
I bought the album too in 1980,but that was in a single cover,I've never seen a gate fold cover of the album
Well said!
@@davidknowles3459 Hi David. My mistake, I was thinking about the inner sleeve pictures & the cover. You are correct, it was not gatefold as far as I know 👍.
Ha ha I was only 5 or 6 but I remember running around with some kind of electrical tape across my face mimicking him, what a different world back then, I miss the sense of community. But perhaps some things have changed for the better, there are probably less little kids getting thrashed by their dads for minor infringements, but then again they are snowflakes these days lol
60's ,70's and 80,s were great decades for music
and vinyl is really the only way to enjoy the music
Digital is to clean and tidy, give me vinyl any day
This entire album is phenomenal. Adam and the Ants are criminally underrated.
Yes a fantastic first album, I've always been a fan of his music, ant music still my ultimate favorite.
I love this song, but I like Goody Two Shoes just a little more.
Actually Dirk Wears White Sox was their first album. It too was very good
Oh absolutely!
But they sunk with the 2nd one.
Calling a band/artst "underrated" is a criminally used cliche.
I lived in a flat across from a music venue in Edinburgh, Scotland. Monday nights they had new upcoming live acts. You could tell how popular an act was by the size of the queue on a Monday night. The bus stop to my flat was two streets away. The night Adam & The Ants played (I'd never heard of them) the streets were literally packed! A normal 5-minute walk took 30mins to squeeze through the crowd, just awesome!
Literally what? Continue the story!
I hope you weren’t on your way to work.
Was that the Edinburgh Playhouse Allan?
@markcullen4126 surely the Corn Exchange?
@@geraldobrien7323 Sod work, see Adam.
Nobody plays this song anymore it's always Goody Two Shoes. Ant Music is an all-time favorite.
Nobody plays Bow Wow Wow either, sadly.
everytime i walk & there are ants out, on the sidewalk, this song pops into my head.
Cuz it needs to be about the evolution of the artist? His producers also?Maybe? Ant music is AWESOMELY catchy, but the sound quality is SO..... sub-par. Think about it brother. You know it makes sense.
And, not for nothing..... might have to blow him just to see what Heather Graham (his ex), tastes like!😀. Apologies for crassness....
Sirius channel 33 1st wave.
Great hook in the chorus. Still catchy!
It was different and countercultural. I did like them!!!
Pure
. Pop
It sounded edgy at the time but it's just a really good catchy pop song
Man I was just saying that it's a simple riff but genius ✊🏾
I like how it almost becomes a Judas priest song in the chorus.
Who the hell did we think we were in the 80's? Running around. Having fun. Not wasting our lives complaining. And actually with some gratitude for the easy lives we had.
In the UK this came out in some pretty miserable times, but they were very creative musically.
We found joy in everything ❤
Ace!
Simple pleasures of life glad to be alive and having fun how dare we!🤷♂️😎
So true Dublin ireland
Sheer feckin' brilliance! Those "Burundi" 🇧🇮 drums and Marco Pirroni's twangy guitar 🎸 licks are unbeatable. Then Adam's vocals on top are toppermost of the poppermost!
Cavalry drums also.
The real Jack Sparrow!!!
Thought it was just me who thought so .... 😊
Phoenix Garuda I've been re watching ant videos and just thinking the same thing! Adam and the ants were my heroes of self expression!
Good call!
Phoenix Garuda Captain. Captain Jack Sparrow.
Phoenix Garuda yes Adam was the first and original and the best Jack Sparrow.
wish I could go back 35 years for a weekend..........
john hughes Only a weekend?
I'd take a weekend and be thrilled!
Or a whole summer ...
@John Hughes -- Bro! You most Def need a Hot Tub Time Machine!
So does your mom, buts that's another story 🤣
One of the most original and charismatic performers of all time
EPIC Adam Ant and Billy Idol 💯💪🏾❤️
2024.Ima li nas koji ovo slušati?Čarobne 80-te.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Guitarist Marco Pirroni deserves a mention here. A big part of the appeal of Adam Ant's music.
Absolutely . He did get a lot of credit in the early days but with time his signifcance has not received the credit he deserved
I remember when they came out on MTV - I was blown away by the music. The use of two drums, especially the deeper sounding drums like Native American drumming and the use of sticks. Bow Wow had something similar but not as melodic in my opinion. The people in the video reminds me of the people's reaction at this at first - like a "whaa?" type of music in a time when the "synth" new wave bands were popping out everywhere. A combination of Native American rhythms, pirate outfits, guitar chords that ring out for an extended time, a solo that's short and to the point and sounding like a 60's venture vibe - What can we say - a true original band that stands the test of time!
Robert Gibbons n
Gary Glitter (yeah) had the same kind of beat. "Didn't Know I Loved You Till I Saw You Rock And Roll" could easily have been an Ant song.
Odd you mention Bow Wow Wow, that's "the Ants - less M. Peroni guitarist" after the producer ?McFarland? bailed on Adam
I thought bow wow wow had one of the ants drummers too
Of course Adam & the Ants and Bow Wow Wow shared the same creator -- Malcolm McClaren
Such an underrated song and performer
Bat Fink made some great music bat
💃💃💃💃💃😷😷
This was the very early era of music videos when directors didn't have a clue what they were supposed to be doing, nobody knew what a music video was "supposed" to look like, and budgets were low. The result is some of the most creative, artistic and fun videos of any era. 10 years later and they'd be spending a million dollars renting navy battleships to film Cher straddling on a gun.
yes such as madness videos
SO well put! I feel so lucky to be Gen X, we got to witness the birth of New Wave, the birth of the music video and MTV, hell even the birth of Grunge. No one is giving birth to anything cool and exciting anymore! When was the last electrifying new art or music movement? God, we had it good.
I mean…Adam Ant. Devo. Gary Numan. Flock of Seagulls. On the pop charts. Amazing.
Did you read "I want my MTV"
Yes I have read it twice.
SO TRUE! WE NEED THAT NOW!
I was so lucky to see Adam Ant perform back in the early 80's. He was amazing.
Saw him in 1982 and 1983.The shows were fantastic.
He still sounded good several years ago when I saw him in PA. I have loved this man for over 40 years!
Best time would have been mid 1980 Ant music for sex people ...became uncool mid 1981
Brilliant 🎉
same here, in '82 in San Diego. it was Legend.
What a blast from the past. My 15th birthday my mother bought me Queens greatest hits. I walked into the record shop and exchanged it for Prince Charming that same morning. I still don't regret that decision. Awesome album.
They were both awesome albums. I do hope Queen’s Greatest Hits is now back in your collection.
I would not regret that decision either. QGH was old by then and this was exciting and new. I still listen to both, as well as older and much newer exciting music. Artists always have a hook that draws us in and tickles the excitement centres of our brain. I
have to admit that the older ones from 60's 70's and 80's give me more of a tingle than modern music but even recent stuff still has the ability to catch my interest.
I just regret the fact that my attention has been caught by an algorithm or AI, or autotune. Obviously I'm a dumb human who reacts to a catchy meme, but the old catchy memes generated by talented humans still have the edge over modern interpretations of the old sound. Some of them aren't bad, and will probably infect my brain for the rest of my life, but, meh! they aren't the bangin' tunes of my adolescent years.
This rocks harder than most metal bands were doing at the time. And it's pure pop. Genius.
You never get tired of this one ..even at 53 years young .
The original pirate man! ❤️
We had a small new music club in Oklahoma City in the early 80s. After a concert Adam came to the club and he and Marco borrowed Instruments and played some ant music in front of about 100 people. Epic!
How is this 35 years ago? crazy. I still get chills listening to this. Thanks Adam & The Ants. You guys rocked it for me.
+larkatmic Me too mate, exactly...
😙✊✊✊
42 now.. goes fast doesn't it.
Me too 😂
Just found out an old friend of mine passed. She loved Adam. We saw him live in concert in '83. RIP Kim. Try another flavor. Ant music.
Ant dance is still my favourite way of moving. And of course ridicule is nothing to be scared of! ❤
❤❤❤❤
When the days of MTV were just born and true punk rock music was on. Untouched by large greedy music companies. When they wrote and actually played their own instruments. A day long gone never to b seen again. I shall remember the greatest joy of this new music coming into my basement den.
You said it!
oh yeah, there's no non-corporate music anywhere, these days. pffft.
there's no music on MTV period. that's not a fair assessment.
nooope, Adam was punk as shit.
That's why supporting local and regional punk bands is so important
Don't you just love how unique the costumes/outfits were in the 80's, everyone had their own look and style and obviously the music was amazing!!! I'm a 86 baby and obsessed with anything 80's!!! 80's was the best decade for individuality 😍👍👌
This is awesome! THIS is the 80s!!! 😁😁😁😁
58 here and I'm still loving this ...and other songs from them, some of the lyrics are in my head daily..adam ant and danny Elfman plus the DK's.....always and forever looks like for me
Dead Kennedy's "bedtime for democracy" is a good album.
In my early 60s here lol
A few yrs behind you, but I like your choices. DK’s got better each album, even if my views are somewhat strayed off left now, though.
Turn 58 end 2023. Totally agree.
Don't tread on an ant he's done nothing to you,
there might come a day when he's treading on you, don't tread on an ant you'll end up black and blue, you cut off his head, legs come looking for you. Awesome lyrics a musical genius.
How many brilliant songs did Adam and the Ants bring out??
I remember seeing this on MTV on occasion as a teen in the 90s. Adam Ant, The Smiths, Capt. Sensible all made me imagine that England was on a whole different level in the 80s. Must have been a kick ass time to be young.
Maynard Keenan brought me here. The 80's is by far levels and multitudes above the greatest creative experimental time in history.
Ground-breaking genius. Still relevant today!
One of the BEST bands of the 80's, an incredible look and sound that still looks good thirty years later. I just hope that Adam himself finds some peace after his well publicised problems. All the best mate.
MrPeterpiper1969 playing tonight in SF
Glad to hear it. He remains one of my all time favourite artists. A truly original sound and look that really hasn't been seen or heard since.
It was certainly a different style and unique than other singers/bands. Well done Adam & the Ants!!!!
Takes me back to 1980-81 8th grade good times 💯 💯 💯
Ant music for Ant people. You understand.
This rocks harder than most metal bands were doing at the time. And it's pure pop. Genius.
+Mark B. Stone This was softer than Heavy Metal. They used to call this the New Romantic Movement or the 2nd British invasion.
I F Horus totally agree! 👍
Two sets of drums...
I'll admit it's good music, but no, this was nothing close to what metal bands were doing at the time.
This was pure New Wave. Nothing pop about it.
This would have been Johnny Depp if he did new wave in the '80s. I always thought Adam Ant and Billy Idol had the most handsome faces of singers back then. Wish it was still the 80's
I've heard this song on the 80s station @ my job for over a year. I just found out who did this song a few minutes ago while listening to an 80s station on my mom's iPhone. I always thought he said "I love the jukebox" when I heard it @ work. No wonder my google searches were coming up with nothing.
I'm so old , i forgot how great this band was ..
You never get tired of this one ..even at 53 years young .
Keith it makes us all young. Im gona be 55 nxt wk and im still tapping and. Il continue tapping.as long as im on this earth
Bow Wow

Keith..I'm 53..
And he was one of my teenage top ten..
Gold 🌟
I like it at 55 years young.
Almost 57 yrs. young. I was 17 when I first heard Adam Ant.
53 here as well and cannot agree more
I could watch this a million times. Playing the drum cases is sheer brilliance
For Sure💯❤️🥰
I grew up loving this guy as my elder siblings indoctrinated me at a young age but what I realise now is just how original and pioneering this guy was British musicians were truly fearless innovators back in the day and successful with it that's probably why I will always love this era's influence and timelessness
How has this not been in an Antman movie yet?
How has this not been in a guardians of the Galaxy movie yet?
Hollywood probably would never have thought
@@dickterpene8697 hollywood directors probably never heard of them 😁
They used "Ants Invasion" in Antman and the Wasp. Made me smile.
It's in the scene where he is working at Baskin Robbins
For graduation, my Grandma bought all of this music for me ...4 cassettes at the time. Thank you , Gram
Have not watched this music video clip in fourty years!!
They'll listing to this 1000 yrs from now!
I went to work on a government contract in Scotland(1981). The first bar I went into I got pulled downstairs into the club. This is what hit me😜. I was immediately shown how to do the "Ant" dance😎.
i’m 14, i have grown up around adam and the ants all my life. now as a teenager i appreciate their music so much more!! :)))
Really great band
I'm also 14
❤❤🎉😊
just taken a trip down memory lane... how good was this? Adam and the Ants were ahead of their time.
Hello how are you doing,my name is Eric Moore how is the weather over there today
This is the song that got me into the Ants. I remember vividly, watching Top of The Pops and this being introduced. I liked 'Dog Eat Dog', but this one sold me completely. I was captivated by the Burundi drum, by the image, and the video. I'd have been coming up on my 7th Birthday when i saw this. Shortly after my Birthday i got the album, and played it relentlessly. I've still got it tucked away safely. The Ants were my first band, and i'll love them if i live to be 100.
I remember seeing this video for the first time..
He was tapping on the floor with some drumsticks..
Cutest thing I'd ever seen in my life.
Wow ❤
I saw INXS open up for Adam and the Ants at the Long Beach Arena In 1982, and that show was off the chain. Fun times back when music was varied and eclectic.
WHAT A FUCKING TUNE!!!!!!!!
The real Captain Jack Sparrow.
Saw him live in Cleveland in '82 I think. The Romantics opened. Now, ladies n gentlemen, that's a show lol.
I saw the same Show in New York I was totally blown away he command of the stage!
As I remember there were punk's, rocker's & there was Adam ant 🐜
My mum told me I was not in love with Adam. It was a crush she said. She knew nothing. All these years later , one look at his beautiful face and I'm a teenager again and still madly obsessed. He puts the butterflies back in my stomach, and kicks my menopause up the arse. I LOVE YOU ADAM!!!😍😙😙😙💖
God Bless.... back when fronting a band.... meant Fronting A Band!!!😘💕
It's the duel drums that makes this song.
I totally agree........it's the same for most of the Ants songs.
Adam Ant - Happy 67th. Stuart Leslie Goddard 3 November 1954 Marylebone, London, England. You and Marco Pirroni. Really good songs..
48 years old, everytime I hear Adam , I stop and listen...next month Adam ant is playing in california (2018)..and like the previous many many MANY times..I will attend. Good music is eternal.
Saw them April of 1983 at Allegheny College, Meadville, PA. INXS was the opener....... Great night!
I saw them, same tour, but at The Greek Theater in L.A., CA, I don't recall the date, though it wasn't a cold night (cold being relative. SoCal cold is cold to SoCal folks but down right balmy to Midwesterners), so most likely spring or fall. The guy who took me to most all the concerts I've been too, always ran so late that we always missed the opening act(s)! Grrrrrr! lol
Rip Mike Hutchens
God how relieved we all were when this silliness hit. Pop music had gotten over-engineered and the punk and metal guys were spreading themselves too thin. It was starting to look grim.....
Then Antmusic.....and frankly I think that it was overdue.
My personal favorite? Stand and Deliver. I will still get up and act a fool for that one....and I'm an old man now.
We were lucky enough to be born into such a world where Adam and the Ants actually happened.
I passed through london last week and couldnt get adam ants music out my head, not that I wanted to.
Plug IN the jukebox and and give us more music *like this*!! Adam Ant is a legend, wish I grew up in the awesome 80s ^^
i was 11 years old in 1980, such a creative band, i was fixed, this was my life at the time, all cared about was the ants
#Rockabilly also had a moment that year I seem to remember.
Brilliant time, you could just be happy, laugh at yourself and with others.
Just saw something that reminded me of this song so I'm now here listening to it at 53yrs old, transported me instantly back to my youth!
This rocks harder than most metal bands were doing at the time. And it's pure pop. Genius.

I was stationed in the UK 84-88.
..soooooo much incredible music...I got to see it first hand
Possibly the coolest of the cool
this song helped me when I had a mental health brake down in 2007 it happens to 1 in 4 of us thank you Adam ant 🐜 for bringing me back
Adam did the mother of break downs. Glad you're cool now Trev x
There was a waiter at Dirty Dick's Theatre Restaurant in Brisbane around early 80's - he looked exactly like Adam Ant and I was so excited to have a photo taken with him..... won me a lot of cred when people saw my pic with "Adam Ant"... I kept that pic for years.
Feeling Down?
The 80's will brighten you up!
Brilliant Adam Ant.
This song in particular is so completely original and unique and...well, fun. Some 80's bands get reduced to one or two songs but this album is a f***king killer, and this song really pushed limits of what sounds could be made. The drums alone stand apart, but his voice and lyrics really separate him from the pack.
Not the crap now.Real shit. GP nz
That man can move! I remember the first time I saw him. That was it. I loved it!
Ant Music Will Live Forever 😎
Johnny Carson show. About 12 years old. This song. Instant lightening strike ❤🎉
Adam Ant was , and still is, a one off❤
One of my all time favorite songs
Let's see, I saw Adam approximately 35 years ago in concert. To this day, I still have the pics I took of him and INXS which opened for him. I miss those days.

Remember the first time I saw this and was like "now this is what I have been waiting for to hear!"
I must admit this song is really catchy. I'm only just coming back to Adam's music. I remember enjoying the likes of Stand and Deliver as a kid in the '80s.
One of THEE COOLEST ALTERNATIVE SONGS of ALL TIME

Adam Ant ..that dandy highwayman
Best song ever made
Just saw him in concert Tuesday!! Amazing, he sounds the same as his videos! Great show!
Just saw him tonight in Albuquerque NM. Awesome show!!
this song started my love for adam and the ants which still exists today i'm 60 something i never tire of hearing any adamant song. love to all ants.
A teen heroe i'll never forget. I felt free each time I saw him . Love him and love those New wave, punkish years!
I remember this when it first appeared. Loved it then and still do. The percussion sound is unique and addictive.
The very first song my dad heard from Adam Ant. Heard it at a record store and he remembered buying Devo and B-52's and once this played, people bought the 45's. There was a girl he remembered asking who it was and record guy pointed at his poster and the girl fell in love asap.
This song alone got me into drumming. They sounded so unique! I got my first kit around 15 years ago and this was the first song I learned and played. I still to this day tap the drumsticks together to try and replicate the sound too
I dressed like him for HALLOWEEN when i was a teen!!!!MEMORIES!!!!
