Thank you very much for uploading video's like this (and this one in particular since it's one of my favorite melodies!). They help me (a self taught piano enthousiast) to make progress and pick new pieces to (try) to play! I just recorded my own version. It's my way to keep motivated and 'round up' a piece so I can move on to the following. Thanks for taking the time to make these and for the inspiration.
Schubert was a Lied genius. He captured the innermost essence of every poem and gave it form, no unnecessary artistry, no show-off virtuoso stuff, just the heart of music, nothing more, nothing less.
I heard a violin arrangement when I was 8. Didn't have the means to seek it out. Couldn't if I tried. But I held this melody in my heart for maybe more than 15 years The day I rediscovered what I'd held so close? I've never felt more blessed. I feel that moment again everytime I hear this peice. Thanks for the post. It really was great
My grandma wanted me to play this piece when she is no longer with us. We never had hugs or kisses but I know she loves me. I didn't realize how beautiful this piece is until I listened to it until the end. Hopefully this piece marks a special spot in my heart for my grandma...
This is beautiful piece of music, my Brother was practicing to come and play this for me 😢, but unfortunately lost his life before he got here. Thank you just reminds me of him. He’s not even been buried yet, so sad.😢❤❤
Your comment moved me deeply. I am sorry for your loss... You must feel devastated whenever you hear this. Bit I'm glad you can feel your brother in this beautifully composed piece. Again, aorry for your loss and hope you're better now. Best regards from Spain.
La meilleure manière de permettre à la fois la lecture des notes et le doigté ! Depuis 60 ans que je joue du piano, jamais jusqu'ici je n'avais vu ça ! QUI remercier pour cette nouvelle manière de suivre une partition ?
Mr. Barton, (I recognized the hands!) thank you for this beautifully played ‘Serenade’. This was one of my daddy’s favorite pieces and your presentation brought me many lovely memories. I have watched your concerts for the elephants and appreciate all you have done for them and the people who live there. You are an inspiration. May God continue to protect and bless you and your family. Sincerely, Elizabeth Conboy, USA
Thank you SO much for this fabulous piece, supporting materials, AND, the music that accompanies your playing. It is a true act of kindness to a bunch of people you don't know!
Hello Paul, I really enjoyed your playing on this Lied by Schubert. As one of many people who love to hear you play I though I could suggest a idea for a video: a video where you tell us a bit about your background, or your story, in music. When did you start to learn the piano, how did that happen, who were your teachers and how were your classes for example. I think it would be very amusing for us to learn I little more about you and your path in music. Thank you
Finished mastering this piece today and Im glad I discovered and followed Paul's version, I honesty think this is the best rendition... in my own opinion.
Yes, yes and yes... there is infinity of depth i Schubert music. If this is your favourite, you do not know Schubert. Try his immense number of lieder (Songs). After all, he WAS the greatest song writer ever. Listen to his symphonies, piano sonatas, chamber music, not to mention incidental music (Rosamunde), etc, etc. etc! THIS IS YOUR FAVOURITE??
Thank you so much, not only for playing so beautifully for our enjoyment, but also, sharing the information on the free download site. Much appreciated!
That is truly beautiful playing. I love the way he floats the melody over that perfectly judged tic-toc accompaniment. A superb arrangement superbly played.
Thank you Paul, for your exquisite interpretations on multiple masterpieces performed by the iconic greats! It is a truly inspiring to hear these pieces performed at a level unmatched...period! Also helps me off get off my keester/butt, bum before it's too late and do my best to play some of these pieces , (that a 3 year pianist can somewhat execute.) Unfortunately I am 44 now and haven't seriously studied in over 15 years. Your inspirational playing has brought life back to me as a player.I GREATLY RESPECT your simple, relaxed, yet so so smooth form that is needed to accomplish these wonderful marvels! Thanks Again, Bugs
I will try to express my self writing into English language (Is not my native tongue). I would like to express that you Maestro, are a virtuoso, gift of nature. I learn a lot from you. I also want to thank you for combine so well your humility with your wisdom. Regards, Andrés

I don't understand how a person can look at all those notes and send the message to the hands and play them! Smh I play by ear. I watch him and follow the treble, but no way could I do both. You people are geniuses.

Loved it already because of those repsected stacattos at the begin as most of pianist aren't doing because of using pedal at the right beginning. Not too fast, with enough emotion, all I like. Keep going

Schubert war leider zu viel unterschätzt
Very beautifully said
Trying to come off as less pretentious, but fails utterly
