Meh, the card game in DW3 was a nice distraction, but doesn't feel as enjoyable as the actual card game that was on PS1. Should give that a look if you ever got the time. It's.....kinda long for a card game? Probably longer than it has a right to be, but it's fun.

When I was a little kid in the 3rd grade for Christmas me and my brother got a PS2 for Christmas. Me and him each got our own game and I got Digimon World 3 as my first game on it, I have such good and special memories playing Digimon World 3. I rarely beat RPG games, but with Digimon World 3 I really put in the effort and beat it. I loved the music, the areas were pretty and the sprites were very cute. Digimon World 3 is such an under rated game that all Digimon fans should try and experience.
I never knew about your channel until now. I'm so glad that someone out there is doing the Digimon games justice and reviewing them critically and mentioning what is both good and bad about them. Thank you for reviewing one of my favorite games.

Nothing else should be changed (not story, 2d-3d play style, turn based combat system, art, etc) not even 1 bit apart from those 2 things i mentioned. Also wish you could save wherever, getting lost in the tunnels with Digmon and not being able to save for hours while fighting countless Drimogemon wasn't fun. I did enjoy the card game though.
That said, I love the design of Persiamon, Zanbamon, Gryphonmon and Pharaohmon, which feature in the game. These are imo underrated Digimon and its a shame they haven't made more appearances in other Digimon media including other Digimon games.

Excellent review. Now, time to dive into the torture that is Digimon World 4. You say you won't do it, but I don't believe you for a second. I mean, really. It is super easy to beat, just insanely long to grind out all of the digivolutions. DOO EET! My Imperialdramon Paladin Mode and level 200+ Guilmon command you to!

Very understandable. Something that might also be interesting to note, and something that I myself didnt figure until I replayed it on an emulator many years after it first came out, is that there difference between the american and the eu version of the game called Digimon World 2003, which has post-endgame Content, a Tournament for the card game, legendary items and more.

Great review Casp. I gotta say I want to try Digimon World 3 now. I'm glad they took out the pet care tomogotchi part of it. I hated having to make the digimon go to the toilet, get medicine, and eat a lot. I'm glad the third digimon world focused more on the battles and the digivolving more so than the crappy training of the first game. I hated getting lower tier digimon from accidentally having a digimon die. It seems though that digimon world 3 did have some good improvements.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  9 лет назад

Nadine Craft Yeah! There's a lot to be said for the v-pet element, but it becomes such a bloody grind. Let your Digimon poop outside a toilet 5 times, screw you, your Digimon is ruined. Enjoy your walking piece of shit, bro!
Definitely give 3 a try. It's an enjoyable experience for the most part. If you can remove the frame limit on an emulator to bypass the grinding, that might be a good idea. Let me know what you think when you play it!

It's funny. I always thought the blue boxes which now are obviously incremental loading were intentional when I was a kid, because your character is playing an MMO and that was a really immersive way to remind you of that whenever you ran into it. Maybe it's a bit of both, a way to boost load times that also somehow manages to be diegetic?

Yeah, I didn't interact with it much, and I thought talking about it wouldn't offer anything from my point of view. Personally, I'd rather just do an entirely separate video on either that, games within games, like Gwent, or the Digital Card Battle game, which I adore.

I remember losing many times to I think Zanbamon, the first strong optional boss. So I left it alone, went through most of the game, came back much later with many high level monsters. I was nervous, but I won easily... I also had made maps for all the subterranean spaces, had almost all cards and all the shit... But I never finished the game, I came close though, but I stop poured for grinding for 100%. Only the boss and unlocking all evolutions remained
Another nice thing in this game is the sense of scale in battles. If your dgmn is huge, the enemy will usually look very small

+Ryuma King I'm going to be honest, I barely know what a WonderSwan is. I've heard the name a lot, but never actually played anything on it, nor researched it. I'll definitely consider both that, and Monster Rancher. I want to return to the Digimon series eventually, because the -World games on the NDS are quite good... Or, at least, I remember them being quite good.

It was one of Game Boy's best competitors on the handheld market, designed by the Game Boy's designer Gunpei Yokoi. The first iteration was a 16-bit system with 8 greys and then got a color version, much like the GB and GBC.
It was moderatly succesful, so succesful that 15 Digimon games were released on it. 15 god damn Digimon games. Some card-battling games, some fighting games and ofcourse RPGs. And at least the first one, Digimon Adventure: Anode Tamer, came in English. So, if you ever run out of localized and fan translated Digimon games, there is always the Wonderswan.
It actually got quite a few license games, like Dragonabll, Hunter x Hunter, Shaman King, Inuyasha and One Piece. Even Square supported it with a few FF ports and entirely original games.
PS: Jade Cocoon is a cool monster collecting/raising game on the PS1. A Ghibli artist worked on it.

How to play this game: 1. Get bored quickly of the MMO story. 2. Get confused that this isn't a gameplay sequel to either of the first two games. 3. Get frustrated that you have a party of three digimon but can only battle 1 at a time. 4. Get further frustrated that your digimon goes back to rookie all the time. 5. Get further further frustrated that your party isn't the digimon you wanted and you're stuck with a monkey or some shit. 6. Get more lost and confused trying to follow a guide to find the digimon you want or to advance the plot. 7. Give up and play the card game.

Interesting fact- the blue panels are solely asthetic!!! As a kid I had a disc of this game that I had taken less than stellar care of and certain areas would fail to remove the blue squares and it was a 50/50 with each random encounter whether the game would crash completely in those areas. However, you could fully traverse them and make it through if you didn't proc a random encounter and I learned to navigate the Plug Cape and Suzaku city blind because of this 😅😅

Oh damn, must've been a disc read issue. Possibly a scratched or damaged CD. My Final Fantasy 8 used to do that. It'd get stuck in infinite cutscenes.

Casp O'Saurus probably, that issue killed me in my childhood, I was too young for ask in an English forum (I was learning English and how the magical world of the internet worked) so I was practically fucked up xD

Loved your review. I wish they made a remake of dmw3

+Amir Hossein Basiratnia Thanks! I'd love a remake as well. After the DS games and RE:Digitize, I think they could learn a lot, and make it a spectacular game.

The EXP is split between the stronger and weaker forms, so it's worth using the previous forms to level up faster.

I can't even remember what I said in this video, but I bet it was mostly bad. I'd love to re-do this one. I still read the comments, but half of them are lost on me. Bad video tbh.

Back from school, throw your school bag, switch on the PS1, load up the DW3. Good old days.

Can you also make a review of Digimon World 4? I enjoy watching these reviews :)

+adelin081 I've taken a break from Digimon for the short-term, but I will absolutely return at some point to cover other games of the series. I played 4 recently, and oh god it's bad. It's easily one of the worst games I've ever played, but I also don't have 3 other people willing to play Digimon World 4, so I can't experience it with friends.
If I can trick 3 idiots into playing with me, I will absolutely do it. Until then, a friend of mine, Joey Razorburn, is doing the fourth game, and he is currently editing the video as I type. That should be out within the week (I hope), and there's a link to his channel in the description. I'd highly recommend checkin' that!

+Casposaurus - The Channel That Hugs Back Oh, I actually remember having fun with the game on the playstation 2. For some reason, having played all the digimon world games( I didn't finish any of them though and i can't remember how far i got) I thought digimon world 4 was the best in the series xD. I suppose it's just nostalgia.

I would recommend playing it again! I had a few issues with it almost immediately, but I got to the first boss and... Damn. I like the idea, the execution wasn't great though.

Would really like to see you review the nintendo ds digimon games sometime, even if they arent the next one you do (:

Philip To I've come this far, so I'll probably return to Digimon in the long-term, as I really enjoyed the NDS games. World Championship is really cool, but the World games are also good-fun.

I personally love this game, because it’s my first and only digimon game I own and play! I love the music, the design

I just finished the game few days ago, and yeah I can agree with majority of the issues the game have. Especially in its later half after accessing Ametarasu Server. Constant backtracking and running across the entire map is not a fun experience. What I also noticed, the game seem to fail at explaining things, there are obscure mechanics that the game never really explains it well and I had to actually open Google and check about them. Like Wisdom and Spirit affecting combat, Curse stats and curing them, Which element is weaker/stronger against, the tiresome grind and fetch quest Duel Island and the most obnoxious fetch/hide and seek quest is getting all legendary weapons to battle the 4 boss fights aftrer killing the final boss. Then you have Kurt, without a doubt the hardest challange the game has and the most annoying.
