  • It's time to put a 20-year journey to close as I finally beat Digimon World 3 for the PS1! This is a game that's long been on my mind ever since I first bought it way back in 2002. Join me for this look back at the first PlayStation game I ever bought!
    Welcome to Fireside Gaming! We release a new video every couple of weeks. Look for us to upload between Friday and Sunday!
    We do a little bit of everything here when it comes to games but one of the biggest focuses is on retro gaming. Even so, don't be surprised if you see us pump out a video for a new release here and there, or even take a look at games still in their unfinished states.
    If you want to chat us up on social media, you can find us at these links.

    And the Card Battle, OoOoOoh it is *chef's kiss*

    The thing with the counter crest is that a large portion of the opponents would quite often use physical attacks quite liberally and would not really using magic attacks as often so that part of the reason why the counter crest was so capable of helping the player beat opponent who they would otherwise never have any fighting chance against.

    Something that should be said is that the European version improves upon this game. The counter crest isn't nearly as broken and it gives you post game content. I don't know if it had more changes, but those are the main ones

    • @FiresideGamingReviews
      @FiresideGamingReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      I wouldn't say 2003 is outright better but it does feature that extra content for players that want it.

      Digimon world 3 is my favorite game for its light and detailed features.
      Digimon world 2003 changes too much, although I would recommend it to people who are interested in
      platinize games.
      Mainly difference is in:
      1) It's fast-paced music.
      2) Methods of gain experience which is altered and in post games.
      3) A) Some items B) skills have been changed.
      4) The possibility of virtually infinite tamers appearing to continue playing cards with various deck possibilities.
      5) It will also be possible to win legendary armor for one of the 3 expanded digimons, Monmoon, Kumamon and Kotemon.
      6) The camera is more moving, showing more angles
      7) The life bar is mirrored.
      8) When fishing and releasing the cursor on the yellow bar, it produces a sound that indicates a confrontation with an aquatic Cardmon.
      9) Correction in the lines of the INN NPCs (which have no plot in the original version).
      In short, the game becomes more challenging, more difficult to level, as well as nerfs to attacks and items, but you will never "finish" the things to be done, but the feeling of doing EVERYTHING is more satisfying, especially in terms of making the most of it and the limit of your Digimons (But this will cost a lot of time).
      The Digimon World 3 version, on the other hand, is more relaxing in every way and you will focus more on the story and honestly it's not even worth going after the legendary weapons, since the game after the final boss is over and at most you will use it in it.@@FiresideGamingReviews

      Agreed. I'm not a complestionist and prefer to only play through the main story in many games. If I do extra stuff I want it to be because I wanted to and not to say I did everything. That's why DW3 is better for me than 2003.

    After 20 years and many, many failed attempts (almost exclusively facilitated by my lack of will to do so much grinding and backtracking), I can finally say that I've finished this demon of a game. It has been taunting me and evading me for far too long, and it is now almost a year and a half since I did it. And I've finished it with Beelzemon, Diaboromon and Imperialdramon PM as my squad to face the big boss. The carcass pile of purple Numemons in the Jungle shrine (if we imagine one) was... Astonishing. I've put approx. 150 hours into it, and I don't regret a single minute of it. Why? - you may ask. Well, by doing it that way I'm not in danger of the most vile gaming-perfectionist thought - maybe I could've done it better. Maybe my Digimon could've been even stronger, maybe I could've had better cards... No. Every single thing was as strong as it could be. And now it is laid to rest. It is by far the most satisfactory thing I've done gaming-wise, and I've done stuff like finishing RDR2 with 100%. My 10yo-self and I thank you for reminding us that we don't need to ever - EVER! play this heroin-addiction-equivalent of a game again.

    Great video - I’m going through a similar odyssey of finally beating it myself now. Even with an emulator and cheats to make the game faster; THERE IS SO MUCH WASTED TIME BACKTRACKING. Just finished this game today! The backtracking is absolutely atrocious.. That being said, overall I had a pretty good time and it introduced me to new digimon I had never heard of like Hououmon being a standout favourite to use! About halfway through the game I decided to only use my Renamon and that improved things so much for me. I didn't have to grind a single time after that and Sakuyamon/Hououmon solo'd the whole adventure pretty much!

    Boost up the exp, tone down the random encounters and change the 3D battle to have Cyber Sleuth graphics. Perfection!

    • @FiresideGamingReviews
      @FiresideGamingReviews  Год назад

      Yeah. It lets you do the server champ battles after the story. But from my understanding it's got some weird things where if you don't collect all of the ultimate weapons before Galacticmon then you can't do all the post game and I didn't want to even risk that. Plus, the game is plenty long as it's and finishing with Galacticmon just feels better for the story.

    • @The_Bromodo
      @The_Bromodo Год назад +1

      @@FiresideGamingReviews Speaking as someone who played 2003 twice through (once without the Epic Items and once with), yeah, it's painful. You need mons at level 40 to even start unlocking the smiths needed to create the Epic Items , so that means Patamon to level 40 as well as Renamon just for the ultimate wand. And then 2 out of 3 from Agumon, Guilmon, and Veemon. Plus you also need specific and very easily missed items in order to upgrade those Epic Items too. It's not a fun time, but at least the blue Numemon in the Jungle Shrine in South Sector makes for a good grinding spot.

    I spent way too many hours into this game, btw, there's technically a bit more story than Galactimon, after all your dream was to become world champion yea? there was a touenament for just that after galactimon, I could never complete it because I sucked at cards and it was a requirement to have some card battles buuut eh there is that

      Ah. yeah. That's in the European and Japanese releases of the game. U.S. didn't get that extra stuff. I'm actually fine with that since it looks like a lot more extra grinding as padding over anything else.

    Did you play DW1 as a kid?

      Not as a kid. I gave it a shot when I was a bit older but it never appealed to me all that much. Though I think I'd like to give DW2 a chance sometime and see how it is.

      I'm aware of it but never played it. The extra stuff just never interested me.
