#SEGE 2023 Haul!!! - Retro Game Collecting
im never not playing this game since release, i bought it twice and have its a great phone game
This game needs a Remastering BADLY. Hell, I'll take a port to our current gen consoles. I never got to beat this game.. (Had to sell all my PS2 games to take care of my firstborn. Don't regret it, but still think about this game from time to time. 😢)
The devs, Cyber Connect 2, want to make it but Bandai Namco has the rights and isn't interested unfortunately. I'd love to see a new release as well.
Dragon Quest is short??? Phantasy Star is short??? Okay was I a huge wimp playing these as a kid, all I remember is grinding for hours and hours! Finding out I was a wimp deathly afraid of being "underleveled" has really humbled me
I've played plenty of RPGs I haven't touched since I was a kid and just having an adult brain for logic and strategy has made a huge difference. It's almost surreal when I compare it to playing the same games as a kid.
this game was so cool. the intro was bad a$$!!
Overly long RPGs will continue to be made as long as consoomers demand "bang for buck" type games over quality. "This game is 60 dollars on day one, therefore it needs hundreds of hours of content for me to CONSOOM!" etc
I generally like to get at least $1 per hour of entertainment, but that's not a hard rule and I take into account potential replays. So if a good RPG is 30 to 60 hours long that's plenty for me.
One if my favorite game from my childhood ❤
good fun little review.
Yeah, I just tried this game for the first time and gave up on it within 20 minutes because I hated the control setup so much that I found it unplayable.
That's unfortunate and it's not for everyone for sure. If you aren't against emulation, there's a mod that adds true dual analog controls to the game. Makes it more easily digestible to some players.
@@FiresideGamingReviews - Nah. I'd rather not mess around with a PS2 emulator when I have a functional PS2 and over 500 games in my library to check out. Sad part is I was planning on doing a Let's Play for it. Oh well, I can always play other games involving giant robots like Transformers, Eureka Seven, MS Saga: A New Dawn, and so on.
I get ya. I mostly stick to real hardware as well. Transformers is lots of fun. Never played Eureka but loved the anime. Picked up MS Saga a couple years ago and haven't played it yet. Either way, hope you find something fun for your Let's Plays.
@@FiresideGamingReviews - I'd say the Eureka Seven games are rather mediocre since they include three/four modes of play. The first one is giant robot combat which tends to boil down circle strafe and unleash your most powerful weapon on your enemy. The second mode is a racing system centered around the player riding a ref board. The third is a hand and gun combat system for your pilot which comes up in a few story missions and finally you have air combat which differs enough from ground combat to be it's own category in my opinion. And the sequel introduces a few missions where the game turns into a rail shooter as well. MS Saga: A New Dawn is a turn-based RPG. So it's definitely stands out from most of the other games in the Mobile Suit games. And I've completed Let's Plays for all three of them in the past. Though I recently decided to revisit Eureka Seven which probably includes a cut scene that should be more infamous where your character is threatened with death if he fails to answer correctly on how a true man wipes his bum.
Im literally playing through this now and I totally agree so far. The worst thing is, like you said, the lack of clarity
Thanks for the great video. I'm new to JRPGs only starting them in 2023 and new to play through this list. I've done about half of them already!
Nice! Keep it up and welcome to the JRPG community.
This was a refreshing take on FFTA. Thank you.
Yeah play ff tactics for ps1. NEVER play tactics advanced
It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Both are great games.
@FiresideGamingReviews no! No TA. only tactics
Lol. Alright, man. You do you. I'll get to making a FFT videos one of these days.
@FiresideGamingReviews <3 even though I'm opinionated I love you and appreciate you giving any jrpg respect. I'm 34 and ffta came out after I had already fallen in love with tactics. That probably has everything to do with it. One love
I get ya. I'm the same age and played FFT first as well, but didn't get around to beating it until the WotL release on PSP.
Yo man thanks for this. I’m right there with you I LOVED this game.
Welcome and thanks for watching.
This is one of the best and unique Strategy/Tactic RPG at the time. Your choice really matters since there are multiple endings and battle as you mentioned.
Its a shame we didnt get this game or an anime based on it, it looks really cool.
Any truth to the lag issues I have heard a lot of people complaining with this steam version!?
Response time on the Steam versions are largely comparable to the Anthology collection. That's where I started playing Metal Slug games, so it feels normal to me. If you played them in arcades back in the day you might notice some slight difference. It does have slowdown when lots of enemies are onscreen, but that's normal as it mimics the original release (like Mega Man X in Armored Armadillo's stage.) As someone who can't stand playing the SNES MMX games in Capcom's Legacy Collection because of the poor response times, I've had no issue playing the Steam Metal Slug releases.
Is there a way i can play this on pc in 2024/2025???
Legally? No. You'd have to emulate.
@FiresideGamingReviews hypothetically where would one do that?
Look into using DuckStation as your emulator. As for the rom/iso, you'll have to find that yourself.
Here's the video with the game's premise. Which is fine to do. But you can make videos how you want.
Dark-grey wargreymon
Ah yeah paraphrasing story as review... Good thing I played it before... but I didn't finish because I got annoyed when grinding my digimon gets defeated or it's slow to grind.
Sounds like you didn't finish this video either.
@@FiresideGamingReviews Wrote comment (which I overexaggerate) before finishing the video but seemed most of the video is like that. That's why I try finding or making videos that have as little spoilers as possible... story wise. Or watching reviews after I have played the game enought. Which I think I have played enough, it can mean either finished the game or not.
@@PhantomDogman The story recap lasts less than 10 minutes in a 24-minute video. It's fine if you don't like videos that talk about the story, but it isn't the majority of the video and I include a spoiler warning.
This game aged so incredibilly well... Its beautiful: Its Graphics, concet art, Soundtrack and Story. I really hope it gets the remaster it deserves. Thanks for the video :)
Thanks for watching! I really expected a remaster announcement for it's 20th anniversary lat year. Maybe we'll see something in 2028 instead.
This game's legacy will never lost.
Lol. XD
Sorry, my trigger got stuck while in full auto oops.
Seems to be a recurring problem.
One of the dirst games i remember emulating as a kid.
I remember playing these games. Such a wonderful epic.
UPDATE! You can now play using the Fireside Gaming skateboard! Pause during any level and select skins to choose a board with my channel's logo.
The viewpoint and tracks make me think of that old hot wheels pc game. I think it was also called “stunt driver”
Can't say I ever played that one.
🎵 HERE I AMMMMM. DO-ING EVER-YTHING I CANNNNN…… 🎵
I didn't mention it since this was just a play test/beta but the game does have a fun soundtrack. Really has that THPS1 feel to it.
Cool short review! Reminds me of those runner mods that are super popular on CS.
Thanks! I'm not familiar with CS but maybe I'll look into those mods sometime.
I played this game as escapism from a rough homelife. It didn't hit me till I grew how much it resonated with me. ;_;
My only issue, where's the charge shot?
I was never big on tactics but I loved tactics advance. Possibly because I played advance first, possibly because of how young I was when I was introduced to both. Playing back through advance now with the help of an adult mind and the internet and it’s better than I remember. Funny story, I almost gave up on this game because I didn’t realize you could assign more than one team member to a fight so I spent HOURS trying to kill all those bombs with just Montblanc and thought the game was just impossibly difficult
I love Tactics but it can be quite grindy and unforgiving to players. I think that's part of the reason Tactics Advance is so much easier to play through again. Less stress, more fun.
@ yea that’s pretty much it. Tried War of the Lions too and got hard locked on the Belias fight and then lost my copy of the game
I fell you there. That's a very common fight to get locked on. My first time playing I had to abandon a save file because of it and start over. It's probably only because I was a kid with so much spare time that I didn't quit playing completely at that point.
This was and is still my favorite PS1 game. The fact that it had heavy emphasis on UC, Wing, and G Gundam, with a surprising amount of voice acting, I just loved the game. I fondly remember unlocking the mobile suits and thinking it would never end lol. The roster is huge! My friend and I still fawn over playing this game, as I gifted her my copy, and she has a PSone to play on the go. We never knew about the 4 secret characters, so next time I see her, we will definitely try them out!
They're fun to experiment with. From what I understand, the game had a hard coded character limit, which is why they can't be selected normally but are still in the game.
I don't know if it is this one or the second one ...but I played it for hours on a demo
Definitely this one. We sadly didn't get a second one.
My wife actually made a perler bead Sprite of Piccolo from this game.
FFTA graphics and UI were way better than FFT.
Anyway, list of games: Ridge Racer - great game! Sadly, this was one of the first RRs to start the trend of the first half of the races being too easy to win to pad out the length. Once it gets faster and harder..... it plays excellently. Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts - recently picked this up myself. Whenever I feel the need to punish myself... Dark Stalkers - Loved the 3rd title on PSX. Avoided this for so many years as many said that the controls sucked on the PSP, but when I did pick it up, turns out I had little problem. Kingdom Hearts - the only one in the series I've every played. Didn't understand anything and didn't like the controls. Only bought it about 2 or 3 years ago, so this wasn't likely to have interested me. But for 200yen, thought I'd give it a go. Final Fantasy Tactics - Classic. I still play this every other month to this day. It should be mandatory for every RPG fan to play this game. Valkyrie Profile - despite owning it... 3 times, I've never played it. Just too daunting considering what I know about it. Just not the time to dedicate to this. Gundam - no idea about this one. Monster Hunter - didn't gel with me. Completely because I tried it sole. And I don't really like Hunter games. Final Fantasy - Never played. Crisis Core - I have owned this for years but have never played. Maybe it's because I've always disliked how FF7 was milked after being taken over by Enix. I'll take your word that it's the best game out there, but I doubt I'll ever play through this. As for my games that I played on it back in the day - All the Tenchu titles (3 in total, I think). I love this series, though admittedly have played it too much now Disgaea - a must play if you like TRPGs Everybody's Tennis / Hot Shots Tennis - my personal favourite game on the console. Would like to play someone multiplayer with this. I highly recommend you check this one out if you ever find it. The golf games are great too, but I recommend you get Everybody's Golf / Hot Shots Tennis on the Vita instead. Wipeout Pure - my second favourite Wipeout, after the original on the Saturn. The soundtrack is sublime, the courses are excellently designed, it's super fast, and controls like a dream. I love Ridge Racer, but this one crowns as the best racer, at least on launch Sega Rally Revo - This one grew on me. Fantastic little game that was never likely to be a big success, yet the devs put a lot of effort into this. Not just a straight port of the main 360 title. They reworked this with new tracks, and different yet very satisfying controls. By the way, I love your segways between games. Well written! Also, been commenting on your videos for months, but just realised I never subscribed! Just fixed that.
Thanks for subbing! And I appreciate the segway compliment too! I've not played Tenchu outside the multiplayer on PS2, but picked up the PS1 games recently. I've played through a few of the Disgaea games (1,2,D2) and enjoyed each of them. I want to cover them on the channel eventually. No idea about tennis or golf games. I've only ever played the PS1 Wipeout but it's a series I'm interested in seeing more of. Also have no experience with Sega Rally games.
3:40 That bar mechanic is so genius! DESIGNED BACK IN 2000 AAAA!!!
Right!?
i never beat the game. i had no idea beta reazor and mega pran existed lol
My friend had a GameShark back in the day and that's how I knew of them.
why so much hate for the OG Dragon ball?
I don't have any hate for OG DB. In fact, I love it. But this video was about a DBZ game. Trust me, one of these days I'll talk about Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure as that game is a blast.
4:40 Is like me, playing Shin megami tensei games, focusing more in a hot female demon party. 🤭😏🥰😎 And SMTV Vengeance has alot of demon waifus, lol.
Who play them through roms/emulation?
Oh yeah, the Gundam Battle games from the PSP, that’s the good stuffs. It’s part of a series of 4 games, this one here is the third one. The 4th and last one is called Gundam Battle Universe, and features a lot more MS, up to Char’s Counterattack, and side UC stuffs as well like Gundam Sentinel, F91 and Hathaway’s Flash (the novel version from 1989). I played these PSP Gundam games recently when iOS finally got official access to emulators earlier this year, and it’s great fun.
Always nice to see another fan of these games. Haven't played Universe but would like to some day. I only had Chronicle as I found it at a con in 08.
As a kid I went from megaman legends to this, I wasn’t disappointed, it was hard and challenging for me at the age of 10/11. The life virus was hard I remember having to leave the game for a week but when I got back on it I beat the life virus
Great channel. Sub.
Thanks! I appreciate it.
Man I loved this game. Great Memories.
