Hi Marie! You’re doing everything right, please don’t feel pressured, it’s all coming together! I love being in the kitchen with you - please continue on!
Thanks so much Melissa! That is the nicest thing to say. That is my goal. I want my viewers to feel like they are in the kitchen with a friend! You made my day! xo
Your crumpet video was so fun to watch! It made me smile and is a true representation of how my efforts go in my own kitchen so many times! But you know, even the most humble results usually taste delicious and that's what really matters. Thank you for making this wonderful video to share with us, Marie. ❤
Thanks so much Marty! I was upset because they stuck to the rings! Those ones I used are rubbish. Normally with this recipe I turn out perfect crumpets! xo
My saying is "There's no blood and nobody died!" Crumpets are a staple here in Australia but they've gotten so stupidly expensive that I make them now - once you get it right it takes minutes, it's fun to watch the bubbles pop, and they are SO cheap to make. I use two tiny fry pans designed for 1 or 2 eggs and they work just fine - and we still use the pans for eggs. It was cheaper than buying crumpet rings and having two makes the process quicker. The pans have paid for themselves quickly vs buying ready made crumpets. Also, crumpets are delicious toasted with a little cheese, ham and an egg on top or even as a base for leftover spaghetti sauce and a little cheese or savoury mince - so they don't have to be just sweet. You are such a real person - like a neighbour next door! I hope your channel grows and grows. Cheers from Oz!

You're doing a wonderful job! I hope you're happy!! I wish you all the best. It takes large sphericals to do what you've done! I never really knew what crumpets were. I used to get these Hostess-like cakes from a store and they said Crumpets on them and I loved them. It wasn't even close. They were like 3 thin Twinkies in a package, but had a little jam in them instead cream. I don't recall what brand they were, but it doesn't matter, it was over 50 years ago. I'll keep tuning it!!
Thank you so much! I can remember as a child we used to love those store bought cakes. Even more than homemade. Now as an adult, I can't stand them. Either they have gotten worse through the years or my tastes have vastly improved! I hope you will come back often! xo
@@MarieAliceJoan The old cakes used to be ok in a pinch for lunches etc.. I think the nutritional police would probably put us in jail if we sent those in children's lunches now. Oh Marie - thank you for this today! I'm not sure if you're already signed up with Amazon for their affiliate program? If not, maybe this would be something that would work well with your channel? Anyway, just throwing that idea out there, because it would be nice for you to earn some extra money to offset the cost of things you are purchasing for your channel I'm off... my crumpets aren't going to make themselves! ☺️
Thanks very much for the idea about affiliate links. I suppose I have always tried to steer away from that because I don’t want people to think I a, greedy or looking for a money grab. Hi Marie! Really enjoying your videos❤. Honestly, I love that you post your failures as well as your perfects! It shows us how to possibly salvage a recipe when things aren’t always going according to plan 😊. Keep being you!
Thank you so much Lyn! I ended up with a lot of extra dough and so I scraped it all together and made a delicious loaf of casserole bread with it! I scraped it together into one bowl, gave it a stir, dumped it into a buttered casserole, covered it and let it rise for about 35 minutes. Then I baked it for about half an hour at 395*F/190*C. It turned out lovely! xo
Miss Marie - don't worry! Cooking is unpredictable, and perfect videos have probably been shot over and over again to look effortless. Those toasty crumpets still looked tasty to me 😅🌞 will give them a try soon!
Edible failures are not failures-- just variations on the theme. I know that I bought a single induction hotplate because I am alone most of the time and didn't want to turn on the stove for frugality sake-- and I found that once they reach temperature, they can end up being too hot, so things would overcook. So I think in your case it may be because the hotplate (though it took time to warm up) may have been too hot for the batter. I'm just guessing. I do have a question. When you buy crumpets in the store, they seem to be all holes and bubbles on the top and don't look as if they have been turned over at all. I thought that when making crumpets only one side was griddled. Maybe the store bought ones are cooked on top due to mass production machinery or ovens?? Thank-you!
This is true, but you are meant to toast them in the toaster or under a grill. When you make your own from scratch, generally you flip them over and toast them in the skillet or on the griddle pan. Ready to serve hot with your favorite toppings.
Marie you are doing a great job on your videos. I love watching you and your recipes are amazing I can’t wait to try them. I have those rings and they stick it happens. Just keep on cooking we all have mishaps in cooking those look delicious ❤
Hi Marie, love crumpets and good job, don't worry that it wasn't perfect! Very few things in life are lol Have you tried Welsh cakes? Here's a recipe for you, they're delicious little morsels of yumminess. Welsh cakes 225g of self-raising flour 1 pinch of salt 100g of butter, or margarine, plus extra for cooking 50g of caster sugar, plus extra for sprinkling 50g of currants 1 egg, beaten with 3 tbsp milk Mix the flour and salt together in a large bowl and rub in the margarine or butter. Add the sugar and currants and stir well Pour the egg mixture in and mix until you have a stiff dough Roll the dough out on a lightly floured board until 5mm (1/4 inch) thickness and stamp out rounds with a pastry/biscuit cutter Heat the griddle over a medium heat until hot and grease with a little butter - the baking griddle should be well-greased. A heavy cast iron frying pan makes a good substitute. Cook the cakes for about 3 to 4 minutes each side, until they are golden brown and have risen slightly 😊
