    Can the channels 7/8 send out audio to the camera app on your phone?
    If everything is plugged in like you have it in the video, and you start recording video on your phone, does the phone video get the good audio from the board?
    I am looking into this board, but need this confirmed first. Thanks!

    Love the videos...I also have the Zoom L8 loving it so far...when I make the call..the caller doesn't hear my voice coming out of the board nor none of other audio inputs I have going into the board... my cell is only bringing audio in and using the cell mic for my voice as it would for speaker call...I have an android so I dont need an adapter I plug straight in to mixer with the cable provided....

    • @CastawayStudios
      @CastawayStudios  4 года назад +1

      that is odd. It is almost as if the android is not recognising the trrs and thinks it has a simple trs cable going in. can you borrow someone iphone and adaptor to test the L-8 side of things and then look into the android settings to see if you have an input setting that has gone haywire.

      Now I need to find someone with an apple cell lol...i
      I see you use a headphone/mic combo....I'll try that also. I called zoom left them a message...have you tried making a call just using separate mic and headset?

      Update: After phone update...it still doesn't work with my SamG9 ..tested with SamG10 nothing...it worked perfectly with an older android phone Sam j7...now I have to make calls on my wife's phone lol

      @@the757hustleshow7 Just wanted to pitch in here -- there are two different types of TRRS connectors. One is CTIA, which is used by Apple devices. From sleeve to tip, the connectors are mic, ground, right, left. The other is OMTP, which goes ground, mic, right, left. My concern is that newer Samsung devices should use CTIA, which means perhaps the cable is faulty or your headphone jack is broken.

    Great Video!!!!!! Would you recommend the zoom L-8 or rodcasterpro for podcast only? Also does it have a line out for video

    • @CastawayStudios
      @CastawayStudios  4 года назад +2

      There are going to be a lot of factors in the choice between the two. I’m working on the big shootout video at the moment that hopefully helps people make that choice.
      You can take stereo analogue line out from any of the four outputs at the top right. (1/4 “ jack, easily converter to 1/8 )
      You can also take the digital (USB) stereo mix out as a source in obs etc as the audio for streaming of recording.

      Yep I have worked full time podcast recording with the Zoom l-12 as well as the Rode Procaster (for a year). I will use the l-8 starting 2020 to see how it goes.

    Please make a video on how to do the same thing, but with a PC on a Zoom call.

    • @CastawayStudios
      @CastawayStudios  3 года назад

      zoom automatically handles the mix minus. You only need to take care if you are using a mixer that blends the pc output with your microphone

    I cannot get mine to work to save my life. I've watched both your videos and the one on Zooms channel. I can listen to music from the music app on my iphone. I can listen to a youtube or any video audio from Facebook, Instagram you name it, but as soon as I try to make a call nothing. The phone doesn't seems to disconnect from the mixer. I'm stumped

    When I have someone call in, they can only hear me from the phone's native mic. Meaning I have to talk into the phone. The audio from all the other mics is not going to the phone. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? 🤔

    When doing phone recordings, do you have to talk directly into the phone, or should the person on the phone be able to hear you through your mic? I was recording a conversation to my LiveTrack L-8 on Discord. I could hear everything running through my board, but they could only hear me when I talked into the phone. My mic was hooked up properly.

    • @CastawayStudios
      @CastawayStudios  4 года назад +1

      Hmm perhaps the input device in discord wasn’t set to the source from the mixer.

      @@CastawayStudios I'll have to look into that! It was a last minute recording, and have never messed with Discord before. I've been loving your channel since I bought the Livetrak, and have been watching your videos. Very informative, and Zoom really hasn't put out much on this board. Completely new to this, and got one for Podcasting.

    Question on phantom power with the Zoom - in the scenario I’m using two mics, one requiring Phantom power, and one that does not. Will selecting the phantom ‘on’ damage or hurt the audio from the non phantom mic?

    • @CastawayStudios
      @CastawayStudios  4 года назад

      only if you have a vintage ribbon mic or some such. A modern dynamic wont be hurt by un-needed phantom power

    The Zoom Livetrak L-8 is the WORST Mixer For Live Streaming with a iPad or iPhone via USB. If you are using the Micro USB it's a Nightmare to Power and Stream at the same time. The only way I can stream with the USB is by using Batteries. Yes, I have tried Power USB Hubs and nothing works. They should have a made a dedicated power supply just for this mixer.
    For Podcast the L-8 is Perfect. Anything either then that is horrible.
    For Streaming / Recording I would definitely go with the L-12 / L-20 Especially since it has Compression and a separate power supply not the L-8!

    • @CastawayStudios

    Hello I’ve been using zoom r16 for podcast for years . Would you upgrade to this zoom l8

    • @CastawayStudios
      @CastawayStudios  4 года назад

      Probably not. Like I always say, each user has different needs and priorities.
      One of my studios needs simple, foolproof functionality and the other needs extra inputs and Fx.
