- Europeans perform American People, Innocence & Tunnel Vision from their 'Live' album on C4 programme The Tube in November 1983. Featuring Colin Woore, Ferg Harper, Geoff Dugmore & Steve Hogarth. Introduced by Jools Holland
Interesting to see Hogarth years before Marillion, just as intense on stage as he still is, an excellent performer.
I saw The Europeans live, as many times as I could. They were a great live band. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks I enjoyed playing it - Ferg Harper
You were lucky !
Recurring Dreams (1984) :-x tolle LP/ great LP
Jools Holland introducing a band with Steve Hogarth in it. Never thought I'd ever see that!!
Die beste Zeit meines Lebens. Vorbei - vorbei - schon so lang. Verdammt !!
Aw, dear little Steve...
Thanks for uploading...missed it at the time, although thankfully saw them live several times in 82-84.....their sound and production was way above anything else around then...perhaps too polished and professional in the wake of punk and new wave.....great band, great memories...thanks....
Bless you thanks - Ferg here- we had a blast and yeah we were very focused on technical details but missed on any big hits.
quand on pense que steve hogarth a fini comme chanteur de marillion le plus grand groupe de tout les temps tout simplement le meilleur chanteur qu'on puisse avoir aujourd'hui.
Good stuff , can hear the Marillion connection musically too . Innocence starts like ‘Hooks in you’ naughty H 😂
saw these guys a couple of times at huddersfield student union in the early eighties .great times, great memories.
Thanks - Ferg Harper
Had to see this again many memories always rated them as a tight unit saw this when I was 33
Hi Fergus from the Europeans here - yeah we were a tight unit and very good live- never managed to get the vital break as a lot of the stuff was fairly introverted. Animal song was our best chance but got scuppered by Toto cowelo - we are animal copy. Long time ago
@@fergusmambo nice to reply I always wondered what happened could never understand how such a watertight rythem and great bass. Should have been recognised far far more your we're a great band. Thanks for the recall of great times 😊👌
@@fergusmambo I absolutely loved the Europeans, I must have worn out the live LP. Many thanks for the music and wonderful memories. Being a teenager was better with your band around!!
@@marcusdavidson3985 Thanks for your time and commitment - I and the others appreciate it - we still watch ourselves and wonder how the fuck we ever managed such stuff!!!! Obviously I would be pro the EUROPEANS having continued. It was a bad management con that split the band. Bad idea!!
They were most definately tight and great the memories!! thanks for posting it
We had great times doing it - glad you enjoyed. fergus/europeans
This sounds like early 80’s neo progressive rock rock. The synthesizers mixed with drums/guitar sound similar to Geddy Lee and Rush at the time. Makes perfect sense Hogarth joined prog band Marillion
I suspect prog was a lot more influential on '80s bands than is generally recognised. If you listened to them in interviews, it was all Bowie, Roxy Music, Kraftwerk etc... They had to cite the right influences. No one was going to say their favourite album was Rick Wakeman's Six Wives of Henry VIII.
Lol, this band has absolutely nothing to do with Rush. Not even close.
@@canalaverdade. I've never listened to Rush, they were never big in the UK. But I do know they weren't neo-prog, they were around long before that. Their only real connection to neo-prog as far as I know was that Marillion were a support band for them in America.
Cool! I didn't know this footage existed! I saw these play in Hull at the begining of 1984, and was blown away. Its funny seeing H from Marillion looking so young.
Glad you enjoyed our shows - it was a blast- Fergus/ europeans.
Shame no one has the BBC sight and sound in concert
Young Hogarth...The boy did well.....
He would have done better to stay where he was - The Euros were going to be very big indeed except he got other ideas that were not his but miss guided for sure. If he stayed the band was about to go stratoospheric!!! Shame
@@fergusmambo I think Hogarth made the right move to leave. The Euros would have needed the likes of fellow new wavers Duran Duran and Simple Minds to f* right off first in order to become stratospheric. Marillion kind of rescued Hogarth at the end of the '80s. His career was going nowhere really, although he had been offered a job playing on a tour for The The. He chose Marillion as it was a longer term proposition - and 34 years later I guess we can say he was right. He's also turned Marillion into very much HIS band - they soon became totally unrecognisable from the '80s band.
They were tight af & a cut above most bands around at the time but didn't have a star, were bit earnest & tended to be liked by musicians more than punters.
Yeah we were a musical indulgence at the time - should have focused on commercial aspects more - it was big fun anyway! Fergus- Europeans.
@@fergusmambo You were a big reference point for a lot of us musicians at that time who wanted to play rock with the new technology & have pop tunes. Seeing how polished you were raised the bar for us in the sticks. It was brilliant but doable if that makes any sense. We saw you at Manchester Poly.
@@fergusmambo Wow, is that really you?! Great to see you replying to some of the comments on here - I was such a big fan of the band back in the day. Obviously we know what happened to Steve but whenever I listen to you now I wonder what happened to the rest of you guys? Hopefully you are well and still playing - you were all so talented.
@@dewievans7238 We all survived the horrific end of the band which wasn't needed. Geoff is one of the most acomplished session drummers on the planet having played on 35 number one gold albums by Robbie Williams, Debbie Harry, Killing Joke, Thompson Twins , Rod Stewart, Tina Turner etc!! I became a flight attendant at British Airways for 35 years but still dabble in other peoples crazy ideas. I still have crazy ideas of my own!!
hogarth looks like the lead singer of dexy midnight runners lol
Best band ever ! #recurringdreamsrocks
Thanks for your time and comments- Ferg Harper

Is that Leslie Ash at the end?
Looks like it, yeah.
According to imdb she presented 25 episodes of The Tube.
Yeah what’s Holland’s problem with Marillion or prog?
its better than the repetitive boring boogie woogie piano music he churns out at every available opportunity.
Thank God 🙏 European and NOT american
Bad song, Hogarth was too good to this band, fortunately Hogarth moved to Marillion.
