The only frontman I have seen who is tone and note perfect from studio to live, there is no difference, such an incredible vocalist!
My brother randomly surveyed his garden a while ago and mentioned to Steve that I could design his garden. I am a big fan of Marillion and had been for a number of years.
Steve said yeah come over, I could not believe it! I was very nervous but the man got the kettle on made a brew and showed me around his home and his studio. I was numb with excitement and then I spotted the garden design I did for his family and he had it framed and hung on the wall as you go up the stairs. I was so surprised a flattered his family were lovely and just so friendly. Steve is so normal if you know what I mean. We went for a beer over the road and the singer from Mud joined us, it was utterly surreal. I did the work for nothing but he insisted that I have back stage passes to the next tour which I took, then he got me to do Steve Rothery's garden and the same scenario ensued, they are just great people and I feel very lucky to have been a tiny part of their lives. Last time I saw H he said "come over for a barbecue and we will drink cold gewurztraminer" . Well one day I will message him a take him up on the offer. He is truly and deeply humbled by his fans as is Steve Rothery both just fantastic human beings.
You’re so blessed! Wish I had the chance to know them as good as you do, and I’m also sure you’re a terrific garden designer :)
@@valeriocesarini5661 thank you and yes it is bizarre to been to their homes and backstage parties, I really wanted to meet Ian Moseley being a drummer for 25 years but H said " he is a slippery character" and smiled I don't think it is Ian's thing. They are fantastic people and very generous and humble. Take care.
Brilliant story. And yes, That's them. Wonderful guys.
I'd love to meet a hero like that. I'd get all tongue twisted though & say something stupid with my lame fanboy mentality lol
wow, that is such a great story - always glad to see entertainers I admire being just normal people!
Love the bloke. He’s a legend 💜
I concur. Lovely guy.
Thank you
A great singer-songwriter.
Amazing singer , really , and second to none. This soulfull voice never fails to send shivers down my spine and can even move me to tears in the most emotional moments. Great artist, Chapeau! 👏
A lovely human being is Mr h 💜
Met H at the Birchmere in Alexandria VA during the 2 Steve's and Pete tour. He actually gave me 10 minutes of his time uninterrupted. We talked about cars and music. When people would come up, he politely told them, I will be with you in a minute please let me have a few minutes of this Chaps time. I was like WOW my time?? Never will forget that. Class Act
Stressful day at work ..home eat..put marillion on stress dissapears ❤ thankyou Steve Hogarth and the rest of the band love you all 🤘❤
Mr h is the best frontman and lovely person, he makes me smile. 💜
The world’s best band!
I just love his voice and personality. Love his honesty. What a talented guy.
Go Mr. H! You're the best!
An accidental man, and a superbly beautiful soul. 💜
Don’t forget h’s THE CORONA DIARIES podcast! Fantastic stories from h
He is marvelous!
I love you Steve
Steve is a wonderful singer and front man. Love all of Marilion's catalogue but especially Steve's vocals
My lovely band ❤❤❤❤👋👋👋😃
One of the greatest frontman EVER!
Oh yes.
Well behind freddie and fish though
@@RUTGERMORTENSEN Freddie, Peter Gabriel, Fish, H... wuau... =)
@@betoastorga good shout
Brilliant he speaks from the heart love this guy.
This now makes King of Sunsettown my
favorite track! Thanks to Mr. H. 😀
I’m magnetized by h’s historical, lyrical and musical storytelling. So chuffed to be Purple .
I believe that Steve has the most beautiful voice i have ever listened to in my 52 years on this planet. Im new Marillion, found it only a month ago. Im infatuated! Most amazing vocals, huge band sound, guitar that sings and screams for attention and keyboard sounds that take u away! This band plays from the depths of their souls and it shows! I feel deprived that i never heard them before. I so want to see them live!
The only thing i could disagree with is when u have THIS type of something beautiful, it must be shared and never contained lol. Better than Pink Floyd! Better than almost every band in America!!
Marillion, if u were a drug? Im an addict! And oh what a sweet addiction it is to have! I cant get enough. Neverland is my favorite so far! It pulls u in and hypnotized u to your core! THANK YOU for making the music that has completed my life! I cant give higher compliments for this band! Wowowow!!
I remember well after being heartbroken in 1988 thinking Marillion was done and the pleasant surprise when the new album came out. It took getting used to, but wow, you guys took many of us freaks in a new direction and I'm glad I went along. Thanks so much for so many beautiful songs, so many wonderful live performances and warm memories. And thanks for being a bunch of wonderful people that radiates a passion that transcends all differences. Wish all of mankind could be like Marillionistas during a concert forever. Love and cheers from the Netherlands.
Being from the USA, i just learned of this band. Feel lucky and blessed to have so many memories. I MUST see them once before i pass away! Just one time.
Greetings and blessings from Australia 🇦🇺. Mr H, I just turned 60 and only 2 weeks ago heard Marillion for the 1st time. Bitter sweet is an understatement. I have missed out on 40 years of Marillion. But now I have found it. You and the band have jumped into my 2nd favorite band ever. Pink Floyd tragic. I am so glad to hear and watch you perform. Thanks so much. 👍🇦🇺
*Gracias, gracias, gracias!!* ♥️
One of my biggest heros. Such an inspiring guy.
Total admiration!!
I believe technicaly mr. H also count as a composer (not merely an occasional musical contributor) if he writes all the vocal lines for his lyrics. In some cases it is considered a major percentage of the autorship. Modesty is one of his big traits :)
Nice video, eagerly awaiting the new album!
He certainly composed most of the music for Berlin. He discussed it in his last podcast
Love you! I met you, in the dressing room of the Olímpia Concert, in october 1992. I took a Picture with Everyone and cried a lot.
How sweet! I think I would have done, too
The Milkman Cometh...H! You and the band and your songs have saved my life on numerous occasions!! Grateful forever!
Having listened to Ian, Pete and Marks comments I found myself listening to H thinking "yup, he is the vocalist!) Cover my Eyes and call me Grateful
Je l'aime tellement... que chaque fois que je le regarde et que je l'écoute parler, j'en ai les larmes aux yeux !!!!
Cet homme me fascine littéralement 💜
Il a choisi de faire du prog mais s'il avait opté pour la pop variétoche, ce mec remplirait les stades, aurait les filles à ses pieds et ferait la une des Tabloïds.
Greatest lyricist of all time. Honestly I think their next album is going to be a stunner. But aren’t they all?
As ABBA said, Thankyou for the music, the songs were singing, thanks for all the joy you boys are bringing.
Marillion forever forever Marillion
Fantastic singer, composer, and amazing performer live.thanks for your contribuition for great music and concerts.
wow he was so handsome when young and always did very artistic emotive, energetic performances live, love him😊
Wasn't he just 😍🥰 Love💕 him too... he certainly is a great passionate performer and he's a nice guy 🙂
Every interview with H is a must watch. This is a good one, also the Marbles interview outside the cafe is another classic. Marillion are an amazing band.
The guys are so genuine in these interviews. And I would say that this same honesty is something that can be heard in their music as well.
Such a genuine man, thanks for the music.
I would like to thank you for...
"Today I saw music in the sky...
I drove towards it in my car..."
...and kudos to Mark Kelly for the remix of Between You And Me
Mr H and Bruce Dickinson are my 2 favourite British Rock singers. Both have Yorkshire connections.
this group is part of my life. the voice of this man ... maybe the one I listen to the most ... the one I was most inspired by ... thank you Marillion
Was für ein super netter Mann sehr angenehm
H could sing or read a phone directory... and I’d enjoy listening to it!
Awesome front man, great voice, emotive performance, unique phrasing and the ability to write lyrics that say so much with the briefest number of words!
Top man Steve, can’t wait to see you guys again in November!
The "How We Live" album from 1987 is brilliant. All the stuff H sings / produces is golden.
Steve has an amazing voice....it's out of this world!
Great human being
He is really nice...I was lucky enough to meet him and chat with him after 2 gigs in November...interesting,amusing,sociable...I have wanted to meet him for years but when I did I kind of lost my brain power 🤪 Could've chatted for ever if my brain hadn't melted 😃😂
Such a beautiful soul.
I will never forget the firs time I listened to Seasons End and the great impression that caused me H´s voice on King of Sunset Town. Part of my life´s history.
Thank you. You truly are one of my favorites. I love your smile and creativity. Your happy music gives me strength, smiles, and inspiration. I don't like being known by the public either and I understand why you are grateful not to be the most popular. Hello from West Michigan. Been a fan for ten years and sad I did not know about you guys longer. Glad to know you now.
You are marvellous mr.h...
Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in his most memorable moments with Marillion. Wow!
I think I could watch him reading the phone book, he's truly charismatic
Down to earth honest guy that's totally brilliant..Best music I've ever some across..
in 1989, I didn't want a replacement. it took me a few years to process it, fall in love with h, and of course he was a wonderful choice. long live Marillion.
Best thing that happends to marillion
As much as I love Fish both with the band and solo, his voice is gone.... Hogarth’s voice is still so f amazing. Gotta love that marillion has gone on for a few more decades now!
I met H after a "Swap the Band" in Montreal. What a down to earth and gracious gent! He asked where I was from and how far I had driven. He even remembered playing a small club here in Vermont shortly after he joined the band. He even gave me one of Petes picks! I'll never forget- Best wishes Brent
The most beautiful voice.
REALLY interesting...have never learned so much, or heard him speak for at such length.
There are plenty of fascinating and highly entertaining stories in h's podcast, The Corona Diaries. I highly recommend having a listen.
You're the man, H! It has never bothered me that you replaced Fish. Marillion couldn't have found a better "replacement". The proof is that you're still with them! 😎👌
Let the be more music,
Jarkko/MyVinylBar
Absolutely nice and genuine guy.
H used the
applicable word chemistry between him and the band I was at the Season Ends tour in Glasgow was blown away with how good Steve was ..and credit to the band for choosing the right man for the job .. and not going for a Fish sound alike vocalist
I've never seen Marillion live but I would say that if you have a crowd that surprises the band with a carefully orchestrated waving of "fingers of light", then you have the best fans in the world and the reason for that is:- not only are Marillion a bloody good band but all 5 of them are genuine, decent & passionate people end of!
Love Mr.Hogarth..Great musician and beautiful voice..
Love to you from Indonesia ❤️
my mom has been loving this band for 32 years lel
Yes I agree Invisible Man is your best work as I am a prog addict and love it. I am a full-time carer for someone with severe mental illness and underlying dementia, and when we are in the car and Floyd, Genesis, Marillion etc playing , the only time she ever touches the stereo and turns up the volume is ' The Sky Above the Rain' and 'Entangled' oh, and Desperado, but she loves your voice on all songs and I am bringing her to see you November :)
Very interesting to hear about the beginning of the time after Fish left the band. Just listened to "the hollow man" which is one of my favourites. Please all you people feel free to check out "heaven's bay" from Jan Costin Wagner, as it is coming from the heart ☀️. I still am a Fan of both, Marillion and Fish, both always have been there for me in the past 37 years, best wishes to you all
I grew up with your lovely music. When i was a child I asked a hundred times my dad to put your VHS « six of one » on my TV and i was like, god these guys are fantastic. im 28 now and i still feel the vibe
Thank you H and marillion for everything and i wish you the best for the future
I will never forget the first time the lyrics "You’ll tell them where we run to hide
, I’m already dead It’s a matter of time" combined with one of the best chord progressions and melodies ever ripped my soul to shreds and I decided that Marillion had become my all-time favorite band. Thank You, H and Co for decades of brilliance. May it continue.
Great memories of seeing the Europeans and How We Live many moons ago.
What a lovely unassuming man
I'm surprised he didn't mention his crowd-surfing moment in Montreal :D
I was at the other end of the Olympia for that. When for the first two nights I was at that end. Always wrong place wrong time.. :) I think it was a stress reliever for when the cricket bat went pfft. Great weekend!
Steve, relax man , enjoy it now, you have already accomplished your task with 30 years of a great career! Obrigado! 🇧🇷👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great interview. It's always good to hear the real story (in this case joining Marillion) from the individual concerned. Been far too long since we saw the band live. Hope it can happen again one day.
Hi Steve hogarth I'm collin polhill iv grown up listening to your music I love all of your videos songs you made love you bruv stay safe man your a true legend man
thanks for existing
I love rhis guy and he make me fell alive !!
I had the pleasure of meeting H at Manchester a few years ago. I'd blagged my way into a sound check, after the check he came up to me and asked me who I was. He gave up 10-15 minutes of his time to chat, he was down to earth and interested in who I was. A true gent.
Splendid stuff!
Thanks universe! The last thing he want to do is the reason the firt thing i want to do every day: listening marillion!! Love his voice! Fantastic frontman. Fabulouse performer. His lyrics are inspiring and are part of my life and my personal formation. And with this gattering of special people marillion is my favorite band. All in one! Long live to us all
Very eloquent and honest. Loved to hear him talk.
I'm glad some of your best memories are in my country...Brazil loves u!
My favorite albums are (1) Marbles, (2) Afraid of Sunlight, (3) Brave. But I'm going to have to give "This Strange Engine" a few more listens, because it seems like everyone in the band really likes that one! Also, my father was in the US Navy, so maybe I should have more of a connection to it due to that. 🙂
Good selection of albums!
My favourite albums too. Strange engine grows on you!
Definitely one of their best. Probably their most under appreciated album.
My favourite albums are:
Fugazi (1984)
Seasons End (1989)
Brave (1994)
Afraid Of Sunlight (1995)
Anoraknophobia (2001)
Sounds That Can't Be Made (2012)
F E A R (2016)
My Favourites are Script for a Jesters Tear...Fugazi..Misplaced Childhood...Clutching at Straws.
Memories, October 3, 1991. Ahoy Rotterdam. "We play some old songs" the audience reacts enthusiastic, "And we will play some new songs", audience say booooo. O boy what were they wrong! Never hear such a good concert and the audience agreed at the end.
Steve , I've been following since the transition back in 1989. I always thought "King of Sunset Town" was about Fish's departure and that era had past, you are now the new front-man, but no body knows you yet. As the sun set,.. you are now stepping into huge shoes but still undiscovered. That is the coolest story I have ever heard my friend, your grace, humility and musical skills have always blown me away. You have always been in my eyes an incredibly talented lyricist. Once "Brave" was released,..you got me! My dream one day is to meet you in person, I'd rather watch you guys do your thing in the studio than be at a concert, the process is far more fascinating to watch and experience first-hand. So great to here you share yourself instead of the big/modest "rock-star". I'll always be a fan, and remain amazed at all of the work you and the band so naturally create..doing what you love is always the most fufilling,.. and it really shows in all of the band members. Your performance always reflects and communicates your art form extremely succiently as such that I will always anticipate the upcoming release of your current projects, you never have been nonsequential,.. always provoking deep thoughts and igniting fantastic imagination! You defienitly sparked the chemistry with the band,.. just never saw this with Fish, not right or wrong or indifferent , just fate I suppose. Kudos to you my friend! You have made a big difference in your writing and your singing, in my heart and soul,.. you will never fade.. Marillion has always been a part of my life since 1986 and I don't see any end in sight..
I was at the Royal Albert Hall on the Tuesday the second time.
Up in the Gods - what an amazing show - Goosebumps doesn't even begin to cover it.
So good to have all those fans together - they all helped make a memorable evening, even more memorable.
Only disappointment of the evening? The price and terrible quality of the food in the RAH - glad we ate in a nearby pub first, also rammed with Marillion fans.
Memories:)
I met a guy called Adey who told me his favourite album of all time was "Brave" He got a little emotional when he was telling me about it so I went and bought the album soon after that. Its a great album ....and i now own 10 Marillion albums.
What a fantastic interview - really awesome!
Your music makes my life so much better 🖤 Thank you so much 😊
Hogarth is a music genius on the same level as Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
That’s a bit too much
A bit exaggerated but he's okay ;-)
Actually I think he blows both of them away
@@positivelastaction3957 even when you compare their solo work?
@@cinereus3601 Good point. No, I am strictly speaking about Hogarth with Marillion.
H is the man for Marillion. 👌
Like a lot marillion before but after him fall in love and passion grows and was transformed in genuine love
Both eras are fantastic. It’s been 32 years! Can we just appreciate the music now?
How do four people not like this interview?? !
As a massive Marillion fan who appreciates everything they've done, for me Marbles is the masterpiece with Brave a close second.
I’ll go with Afraid of Sunlight followed by the dark horse, This Strange Engine.
@@jeffjacobson59 I love both of those albums but particularly This Strange Engine, it's criminally underrated.
Love all mentioned but "Sounds that Can't be Made " never ever gets old:
@@cudaguy74 that's a great one too, it's hard to choose favourites.
I would love to see H work with Johnny Marr!
I am Marillion fan since 1982,in my Heart are two Hearts to beat for Marillion.I love the Music with Fish more all albums are great. The Steve H. time are difficult.start with an Fantastic Album and than the Band search her new way,but that was a lot of times not so good.I Love Steves Voice too,and many Songs are very great, but you can not compere this Times.Very diffrent Music times.i love more the prog time.Steve Rothery Concert in Köln(think2 or 3 Years back in time) over 2 days with alot old Marillionstuff bring the best time in my life back.I wish all members of Marillion the best for future and stay healthy.Greetings from Germany/Berlin
Legend!
I was at the Tuesday concert at the RAH. And that was one of his fave moments! Yay!
I'm just discovering you and the band. Your voice and performances are so unique and captivating. Guess I'll start building my collection of your music.
Enven during interviews, Steve Hogarth uses some ( future ) lyrics ideas : "i can't see through it, into the machine". That sounds really good as lyrics !
I have no clue WTF happened in the 90’s and early 2000’s (I kind of shut off musically with being sad where the industry was going) Rediscovering the band in the last couple of years was so refreshing musically. Thanks so much for your work. I am an H fan for sure.
OMG such a life! Great bloke!
