A lot of you asked what I would change about my undergrad degree ...😅⤵️ I wish I knew about Physician Assistants before I started college (I found out about that career path towards the end of undergrad). Otherwise, I would have worked toward a PA degree (ideally a BS+MS program) and then my ND degree. I could have applied to a PA program (MS only) after undergrad, but at the time, I felt rushed to go straight to naturopathic medical school (pressure put on myself by myself). Don't get me wrong though, my degree was still great (Health and Wellness), and I took pre-med classes outside of my degree program and volunteered to help with research. But I wish I had a stronger background/more experience in the medical field before ND school, and I feel like a PA degree would have been a good option for me to pursue.
I definitely feel like I don’t have any medical experience yet, but I was planning to go straight to ND school after finishing a BS in Bio. Would you suggest maybe getting a certification in something medical first for some experience?
I was going to go for a PA for undergrad but I’m going for Biomechanics do you suggest that for good undergraduate degree? Before applying for the naturopathic school?
A degree in Biomechanics sounds awesome! Honestly, it doesn't matter which degree you choose as long as you complete the pre-requisite coursework required for admission into an accredited naturopathic medical school. If you resonate more with Biomechanics, then go with that.👌
I am a naturopathic student and I am loving it. I do get negative remarks from a lot of persons but I refuse to acknowledge them. It’s something I always wanted. God bless you and your career path .
I can’t believe how many people are against naturopathy. MD's have always let me down and a professional in the studies of cancer was the reason why my mother is gone. I studied into natural cancer treatments and while my mom was on them her cancer didn’t spread. She then turned to the doc instead of me, got her shot of chemo, and passed away 2 weeks or so later. She was 40. I’m going to become a naturopath to try and change other people’s lives.
Sorry for you loss. It’s a struggle listening to my family talk about health and knowing nothing about it and won’t listen to me because I don’t have a degree
I could definitely relate before I started to apply to ND school, there was a lot of negative articles and people in general not having enough knowledge about ND's, but still decided to put in their two cents about ND's, which is totally wrong. I knew this was the career that aligned with my beliefs, so I had to stay strong with my purpose. Sending positive vibes your way!
It's now 5:31 am in Jamaica, I've been up searching for information on how to become a natrupatic doctor in currently in nursing school but I know with all my heart that natrupatic medicine is what I want to do. Your video was so informative thank u thank you......
Thanks for making this! I am a musician and am also super passionate about health (had major health issues the last 2 years) and I am not considering this because I am starting to regain my health due to information in naturopathic medicine. I feel like this would be the best career because I will still have time to make music while helping others!
I had thought of becoming a neurologist but with my true appreciation of nature which I believe would definitely be a more effective remedy to healing than some unnatural, chemical side effect laden disaster. Ii am an MS patient and I am going to begin my naturopathic journey to help myself and every other MS patient in the entire Caribbean with God's guidance and assistance
I’ll be honest the first impressions of ND I had were from those negative things on the internet. So I went out of my way to find a first person perspective of the profession. I found you that way. Through your videos and social media I understand now that it’s not only not “quackery” but it’s actually SO IMPORTANT in the field of medicine. I’ve recommended seeing NDs to friends and family. Just thought I’d share maybe it would make you smile!
Wow 😳 Yes, this definitely put a smile on my face! I try to be honest and open on here so that people can take the info from my vids and make a decision for themselves. And if people still choose to think that it's "quackery" or "fake medicine" then that's ok too because everyone is entitled to their opinion! So awesome that you've recommended NDs to your friends and family (if they did see one I hope they had a good experience). Thanks for sharing this with me! ❤️
Thank you so much!! I desire to become a physician-scientist, applied mathematician, and educator. I am so passionate about naturopathic medicine. Holistic medicine is something I feel compelled to pursue. I definitely look at the organizations You mentioned and the dual degree paths (MD/ND or DO/ND). I never heard of such a path.
Hi Shiraz, you're welcome! There is no dual degree path at any school. You would have to attend an MD or DO school first, then go to an accredited naturopathic medical school.
Thank you, I have come across the negative articles and comments on the internet. It’s nice to know that MD’s and DO’s don’t see ND’s through the same negative lenses. I start Bastyr University Washington in the fall and I’m soooo excited.
Hi there! It definitely varies but I've been fortunate enough to come across some very supportive conventional docs. Getting involved with IFM and AIHM help with networking and staying connected to other healthcare professionals who support integrative medicine (you can get involved as a student, too). Congrats on getting accepted into Bastyr! And best of luck on your journey 😘
Thank you Marylin for all your amazing videos! I have chronic Lyme disease and am treated by an amazing ND, ever since I've been contemplating a career in naturopathic/integrative medicine. Of course a lot of the themes that you talk about in this video, so it is very great to hear your take on it all! thanks for sharing :) Side note-I would love to hear your thoughts on unconventional med students (as I have a BS in business/econ) and what considerations/challenges ND students face when they don't have a medical background. Thanks!
Hi Annie! I'm so glad you enjoy them 😄 And I'm glad that you've had such a great experiencing working with a naturopathic doctor. I think having a background in business/econ is amazing and would be very beneficial to have as an ND. The challenges will probably vary for each individual with a non-medical background but the basic science classes first year may be a little more challenging?...other than that it's totally doable with a non-medical background!
Hi Leigha! That is wonderful to hear! And I'm glad that my videos have been helpful for you. 😃 I'm so excited for you to start your journey to becoming a naturopathic doctor. Which accredited ND school is your top pick?
Hello there. I absolutely love your channel! I'm sorry to hear that people have been leaving you mean and hurtful comments. I think Naturopathic Doctors need more respect. I admire their view of treating the whole person, while all that many Allopathic Doctors do is prescribe drugs. I'm planning on attending Bastyr University (Seattle) and becoming an ND.
Hello! Thank you for this video. About two years ago I was in my junior year of high school when I was contemplating on my career path. I have always been intrigued by medicine but have my opinions about Big Pharma. I then began my research of functional medicine and came across Naturopathic Medicine and your channel. I remember I DM'd you (maybe you don't recall since it was about two years ago lol) and asked if you recommend any undergrad degree, and mentioned that it did not really matter, only to complete pre-reqs. In your video you mentioned one thing you would change from your journey would be your undergrad degree, and I would like to know more about your thoughts and why! I am now a freshman in college and am majoring in Biomedical Science. I am still in the fence about either pursuing medical or naturopathic school based on how society criticizes holistic medicine. However, I strongly believe in naturopathic medicine and would love to practice it some way or the other. Either by attending ND school and becoming an ND or attending MD but completing some licenses, like mentioned in your video! I really hope naturopathic medicine is more well accepted in our society in the next couple of years. I would also like to ask. if there is anything you would recommend for me to do/complete during my undergrad years, such as volunteering, research or internships involving holistic medicine. Sorry for the long comment lol, I am just a really curious freshman that is interested in naturopathic medicine but is a little lost. Again, Thank you!
Hi Monica! Wow, you're so young ahh! 🙊 So much to look forward to in the years to come. You still have time to make a decision. A lot can change in 2 years with the naturopathic medical profession. In the meantime, focus on a pre-med track and getting all the pre-requisites done for medical school (MD/DO/ND - all fairly similar). Either career path you decide to pursue will be great. Definitely get involved volunteering/researching/doing an internship (I would do conventional over integrative. If you really want to volunteer at a holistic or integrative medical practice, do that in addition to doing work with conventional docs). Also, I pinned a comment talking about my undergrad degree at the top 😘 Best of luck on your journey!💓
Thank you! I am pre med for PA and (I am a massage therapist and yoga therapist as well, for 20 years) and my original plan is to be a ND and a DAOM as well as a PA to do both holistic and medical.. was really trying to decide to do what first.. transfer to ND School after undergrad school then come back to PA or do PA first then go to ND school You really helped me decide thank you!! 😊
I am 28… just started school at a community college… with 2 kids.. should I even go down the medical field path? After all of my experiences with my own health journey, I definitely would love it and see myself doing it! But good gravy I’m getting older fast.
Hi Taylor, First of all...you're still SO young!!!! I had a classmate who was in her 40s (or maybe early 50s?) and went through the naturopathic medical program. Definitely had some moms in my class, too. Don't let age stop you. 😊
Very nice talk about this topic because I’m just at the cross road to look for opinions if I’d better chose to become a Nutripathic practitioner or not. Thanks for giving your idea.
Hi Kassandra! Wow, big congrats! 🎉 I love that you're interested in having a dual medical degree. I think it's a big advantage, especially depending on where you decide to practice. For instance, as of right now in California we are allowed to prescribe medications but only under the supervision of an MD/DO...but for you it wouldn't be a problem. Hope this helps!
Im already in medical field as a medical doctor and god guide me to search more in naturopathy, in my point of view this is the main path to gain healthy body because you cant treat desease that caused by wrong way of life with a drug.
Thank you for the Information. May I please ask about the career options in Naturopathic medicine? I would love to work for a while and then have my own clinic but I really don't know how the career options work under this type of medicine.
Hi there! The Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC) has a great article on this 😊👉 aanmc.org/career-path/ Make sure to check out their other resources as well! It's a very useful site for learning more about naturopathic medicine in North America.
Hey Ariel! Have you looked into becoming a functional health or nutrition coach? Check out these programs: functionalmedicinecoaching.org/ and www.mindbodygreen.com/classes/functional-nutrition-coaching. And in regards to the schooling process - yes it takes a long time, especially if you want to become a naturopathic doctor...but the years will pass regardless of whether you are studying to become an ND or doing something else!
Talk Natural To Me thank you for the links😊 I’m going to look more into their websites rn I was looking at the integrative institute for nutrition(inn) I believe without anything to compare it to.
I’ve been on the fence for deciding to go to ND school because of the negativity behind this type of medicine. But I love natural products and what they stand for so I decided this year to work towards getting into an ND school and lucky for me there is one in Arizona so it works out perfectly! If all goes well, I’ll be in an ND medical school next year! Thank you for your content, you make me feel a little more at ease with this decision and I’m glad it wasn’t only me feeling doubt about potential choosing this route ☺️ though they may get backlash, I know that this is the field for me because we will have to fight together and grow together to get it legal to fight in all 50 states ☺️ thanks again you’re amazing!
Hey Anthony! Yes, the stigma around naturopathic medicine is unfortunate and can definitely make us feel discouraged about pursuing this career. We definitely have to work together to change this! SCNM in Arizona is a great school from what I've heard (it would have been my next choice if I didn't get into Bastyr). I'm glad my content has helped you out! Best of luck on your journey 🤗
Hi, can you please go over a day in the life of ND because i am definitely on the fence of deciding whether natharopathic medicine is right for me but i am having trouble deciding because i am not entirely sure what services can ND really provide? I would appreciate your support.
I did a diploma of remedial massage which gave me some biological and anatomical knowledge for example pathogens, the systems of the body, etc. Do you think that would be sufficient or would you still recommend PA first?
@talknaturaltome Hello, I've been watching you for a while now and I'm finally deciding to take this serious and become a ND🤭 Could you please help me find the best online school I can attend to accomplish this? I am a single mother and need to do it online as of now. Thank you, I would appreciate any resources 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Great video!!! I'd appreciate your honest opinion. I'd love to recommend NDs to some of my pts over MDs due to gut health and so many drugs- interaction concerns as we get older. I myself don't like to take any medication that develops unwanted side effects. I'm NOW taking only meds that you recommended so that boost my immune system and increase my daily energy. GO NDs!
Hi Ivelisse. I think it depends on what you want to do. If you want to practice as a general wellness consultant then it would work. But if you want to practice medicine as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (treat, diagnose, prescribe medications if needed, perform physical exams, and order diagnostic labwork) then you would need to attend one of the accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America. aanmc.org/
I've learned there is no "good" undergraduate degree. I graduated with a degree in biology w/minor in chemistry, and i dont see how i have a major advantage compared to my classmates with similar degrees like exercise phys. (im in the final year of medical school for my M.D). For N.D, i'm sure your undergraduate degree doesn't matter. What matters is how efficient you study and your dedication.
Hi Hope! Great question. You can move to and apply for a license in any state that is regulated once you pass NPLEX 2 (here's a list of regulated states: naturopathic.org/page/RegulatedStates). 😊
What undergraduate degree do you recommend having if you want to become naturopathic doctor? I just started my first year of college to study health & nutrition :))
Hi Luun! You can't go wrong with science degree. If you want to pursue something you're more passionate about (like a health & nutrition degree) just make sure you have the pre-requisite courses done for whichever accredited naturopathic medical school you're interested in. 🤍 Dr. M
Hello! When I refer to "Naturopathic Doctor" on my channel I'm talking about ND's who go to an accredited naturopathic medical school in North America. I know there is naturopathy schools in Europe and Australia but I'm not sure how they're regulated. 😊
Hi Seema. For whatever school you are interested in applying to you will need to check and make sure you have all the pre-requisite coursework and other requirements done.
I have been home with my kids for 14 years and just now got back into school. I’m a Spanish teacher, but my passion is healthcare. The actual healthcare lol. I’m looking into becoming an iridologist and am wanting to obtain my BA in science so I can apply to the National University of Health Sciences for my ND. Literally the only concern I have is being vaccinated. I’m not interested in any of that. Do you have any advice for me?
Hi Tiffany! Is being vaccinated a requirement for going back to school to obtain your Bachelor's degree? This is a tough question that only you can answer. If it's a requirement then I'm really not sure what else there is to do if you really want to go back to school and pursue a naturopathic medicine degree...
Are you able to get an exemption? Please let us know. I was able to at my collage but I am at the bottom level.. just went back to school a few semesters ago. But I am also with you on this
PA - but I'm really ambitious and love to challenge myself (I just didn't have time to switch last minute and wanted to go to med school asap). But don't get me wrong - I absolutely loved my Health & Wellness program. Go with anything you're called to do (as long as you complete the pre-requisite coursework for whatever accredited naturopathic medical school you're interested in attending).
Big pharma...the live if money is the root of all evil...the Bible literally said our medicines are in the plants and herbs of the planet...Trust God oven Man, that's the Motto for me
Hi Jai. Most of my colleagues were able to find jobs before graduating but a lot of naturopathic doctors also open up their own practice. There are resources provided by the schools to help you find a job as well.
I think it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to do more research or clinical? Naturopathic medicine can definitely help with things like allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, and certain immunodeficiency disorders - so either ND or MD would be a good choice. If you're leaning towards research or primarily treating/managing immunodeficieny disorders then MD would probably be the better route.
I appreciate your vid, my dad raised me holistic and I find myself dx people i come across. Smh its just what i do lol. I live in texas as i see is a grey area state smh… and i must admit the financial side and time involve is also concerning, i have 170 college credits but idk if that would even go towards this endeavor.. and im use to negative people they thought my dad was a eitch doctor growing up smh ignorance lol
If you're practicing freely in an unlicensed state as a Naturopathic Doctor, including treating/diagnosing/performing physical exams, then you are practicing medicine illegally. But you can see clients (not patients) as a naturopath and work as a wellness consultant.
Hi Leverne, Here is a great definition from the AANP: "Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods." 🤍 Dr. M

Talk Natural To Me thank you for the links😊 I’m going to look more into their websites rn I was looking at the integrative institute for nutrition(inn) I believe without anything to compare it to.
IIN seems great too 😊
I’ve been on the fence for deciding to go to ND school because of the negativity behind this type of medicine.
Great video! :) Totally agree with all of those points!
Thanks Sienna!🤗
Can a naturopathic doctor make his or her own drug company? Balms, pills, etc.
Im on my last semester of nursing school
Hi Ann! Yes they definitely can. 😊
Ann!!!! I always bump into you here in YT!!!! @Ann Betsa
Hi, can you please go over a day in the life of ND because i am definitely on the fence of deciding whether natharopathic medicine is right for me but i am having trouble deciding because i am not entirely sure what services can ND really provide? I would appreciate your support.
Love this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!😘
I did a diploma of remedial massage which gave me some biological and anatomical knowledge for example pathogens, the systems of the body, etc. Do you think that would be sufficient or would you still recommend PA first?
Will there be more uploads?
@talknaturaltome Hello, I've been watching you for a while now and I'm finally deciding to take this serious and become a ND🤭 Could you please help me find the best online school I can attend to accomplish this? I am a single mother and need to do it online as of now. Thank you, I would appreciate any resources 🤍🤍🤍🤍
You're so pretty! Thanks for your video.
Thank you Dr for your honest words 🌹👍
Thank you for watching 🤗
Negativity is part of life at times we just deal with it
Yep, deal with it and move on!
GO NDs!
Oh I'm so glad! Thank you for the support 😁
Do i need a bachelor in a science degree to become a nd ?
Would a certificate be sufficient as a holistic practitioner?
Hi Ivelisse. I think it depends on what you want to do. If you want to practice as a general wellness consultant then it would work. But if you want to practice medicine as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (treat, diagnose, prescribe medications if needed, perform physical exams, and order diagnostic labwork) then you would need to attend one of the accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America. aanmc.org/
Awesome video! Are ND schools competitive to get into like MD/DO schools?
Thank you for this! You are very beautiful by the way and your makeup is BOMB 😍
You're welcome! And thank you so much beauty!😍💕
You said that the only thing you'd change if you went back was your undergrad degree- what would you have done instead?
Hi Kayley! See the pinned comment at the top 😘😊
Thank you for this! What undergrad degree would you get if you could go back? 💗
I would love to become a naturopathic doctor!
You're so welcome! 🤗
What’s the schooling process to become an ND?
4 year bachelor's degree + 4 years at one of the accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America.
Would you say exercise physiology is a good undergrad degree if I want to be a ND?
I've learned there is no "good" undergraduate degree. I graduated with a degree in biology w/minor in chemistry, and i dont see how i have a major advantage compared to my classmates with similar degrees like exercise phys. (im in the final year of medical school for my M.D). For N.D, i'm sure your undergraduate degree doesn't matter. What matters is how efficient you study and your dedication.
If you study in California do you only get your license in CA or can you move to a diffrent state and practice or no ?
Hi Hope! Great question. You can move to and apply for a license in any state that is regulated once you pass NPLEX 2 (here's a list of regulated states: naturopathic.org/page/RegulatedStates). 😊
Is there a route with cosmetic or skin rejuvenation with an ND degree?
Hi there! There are definitely ND's who focus on skin and aesthetics (myself included). 😊
What's the average student loan for ND degree
Are the prerequisites for naturopathic school the same as pre med?
Hi Veronica! They are very similar but may vary a little, especially depending on which ND school you're interested in applying to.
🤍 Dr. M
Can you tell me which country to be naturopathic dr
Hello! When I refer to "Naturopathic Doctor" on my channel I'm talking about ND's who go to an accredited naturopathic medical school in North America. I know there is naturopathy schools in Europe and Australia but I'm not sure how they're regulated. 😊
Hey I am doing am bachelor in naturopathy from India and if I want to come to USA for further degree ..what really should I do ?
Hi Seema. For whatever school you are interested in applying to you will need to check and make sure you have all the pre-requisite coursework and other requirements done.
always love watching your videos!
I'm so glad!🤗
I HAVE A QUESTION: My biggest concern is the money. Is there any scholarships to apply to?
Hi Rabakah! Such a valid concern that a lot of prospective students have. Yes, there are scholarships available!
@@TalkNaturalToMesingle mom here. Would love to hear about the scholarships!
What would you have gotten your undergrad in?
Thanks for the info! New sub
You're welcome! Hope it was helpful for you.
But I am also with you on this
Where’d you get your mug ! So cute 😊
Hi Mia. This was a gift from my fiancé - he brought it back from his snowboarding trip at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. 😊
What states are licensed?
Hi Abigail! Here's an updated list: naturopathic.org/page/RegulatedStates
What degree would you have chose if you could go back?
See the pinned comment at the top 😘😊
I'm a certified Naturopathic Practitioner here in the Philippines also a certified psychological first aider. 😊 Thank you for your video.
I'm in north Carolina how can I do that
What undergrad would you have gone with instead?
PA - but I'm really ambitious and love to challenge myself (I just didn't have time to switch last minute and wanted to go to med school asap). But don't get me wrong - I absolutely loved my Health & Wellness program. Go with anything you're called to do (as long as you complete the pre-requisite coursework for whatever accredited naturopathic medical school you're interested in attending).
I really can’t believe naturopathic medicine is illegal anywhere. That seems absolutely crazy tyrannical to me.
Big pharma...the live if money is the root of all evil...the Bible literally said our medicines are in the plants and herbs of the planet...Trust God oven Man, that's the Motto for me
Is it difficult to get into these programs?
How much on average do you make as an ND?
Hi, I have a video on my channel that talks about how much NDs make :)
Is it hard to find a job as an ND? Is there a match process?
Hi Jai. Most of my colleagues were able to find jobs before graduating but a lot of naturopathic doctors also open up their own practice. There are resources provided by the schools to help you find a job as well.
Thank you 🙏🏽
You're welcome Jessicca! I hope this video was helpful for you.
Is naturopathic doctor someone who can study complimentary medicine ?
Can naturopathic doctors specialize in immunology? If not what’s the closet specialty to this for a naturopath?
Hi Christian! I've never met an ND specializing in immunology (yet) but I'm sure there are some out there!
Talk Natural To Me do you think becoming a md would be a better idea
I think it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to do more research or clinical? Naturopathic medicine can definitely help with things like allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, and certain immunodeficiency disorders - so either ND or MD would be a good choice. If you're leaning towards research or primarily treating/managing immunodeficieny disorders then MD would probably be the better route.
What was your undergrad ??
Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness 😊
Amazing!
Why do you regret the undergrad degree you chose?
Hi Jessie! See the pinned comment at the top 😘😊
If you practice in a state that doesn’t license it
means *you can* practice (freely!) not you can’t 🙄
If you're practicing freely in an unlicensed state as a Naturopathic Doctor, including treating/diagnosing/performing physical exams, then you are practicing medicine illegally. But you can see clients (not patients) as a naturopath and work as a wellness consultant.

True I liked ur response

It’ll be worth it
😂
What is Naturopathic medicine?
Hi Leverne,
Here is a great definition from the AANP:
"Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods."
🤍 Dr. M
Not sure how I stumbled across this video, but I thought I should at least mention how gorgeous this woman is !!!
You are so sweet! Thank you 🥰
🌼
You say you're not. married, but you have a beautiful photo in the background and it looks like you are in a wedding dress?
Hi Cheryl! That's my white coat. I wore it for the stethoscope ceremony my second year of school. 😊
