- Hola! In this video, we take you on a tour of the Konrad Family Farm, Finca Hermosa, near Vilcabamba, Ecuador. We showcase the many local exotic fruit trees, medicinal plants, local fruits and veggies, as well as a terrifying spider, and the legendary "serpiente verde." which we caught trying to eat our son, Nagual. There is also a cute cat scene.
Vilcabamba is a village in the southern region of Ecuador, in Loja Province, about 45 km (28 mi) from the city of Loja. The etymology of the name “Vilcabamba” derives from the Quichua “huilco pamba.” Huilco denotes the sacred trees, Anadenanthera colubrina (Yopo snuff, a DMT containing shamanic plant medicine, that inhabit the region; pamba is a word meaning “a plain”.
Nestled in the Andean foothills, only a short distance from the Amazon, "The Valley of Longevity" has been a sacred place for many peoples throughout history
The area has been referred to as the "Playground of the Inca" which refers to its historic use as a retreat for Incan royalty. The valley is overlooked by a mountain called Mandango, the Sleeping Inca, whose presence is said to protect the area from earthquakes and other natural disasters.
In part 2, we will tour the town, check out some natural landmarks, hostels, and indigenous crafts.

Wow you live in paradise! :-D
Here in the foothills it's nearly always a spring day.
@@Illumignostic Amazing, do you still go through time of the year related phases? Here in switzerland we have normal 4 seasons and I feel quite different depending on what time of the year it is, it always has been that way for me, each season has its distinct character.
@@dreisein sort of. w3e have wet and dry seasons. Mushrooms, and no mushrooms, is how I divide the year.

Im form Ecuador too, I didnt know you lived here! Vilcabamba is a wonderfull place
Looks great brother.. in nature life is good
My family is moving to Vilcabama this summer for health and food safety. I am an experienced gardener in the Northwest and have a lot to learn about growing food in the mountainous tropics. I LOVE this video showing so many types of fruit etc. and very much hope to meet you sooner than later. Never having payed much attention to mushrooms, I've recently been listening to interviews with Paul Stamets and believe you may be able to help me learn a bit about mushrooms in Ecuador, too. Thank you for your videos.
Get in touch when you arrive. Cheers
I'm in vilcabamba for a while and I'm digging the videos!
Wow your property is beautiful. I was born in Quito and live here today but everything is so contaminated, urbanized and populated, there is still lots of green but out there everything looks so untamed and gorgeous I’ve never seen my country like this, I wish I could live closer to nature. Thanks a lot for the videos I rlly enjoy them
That's so cool that you can just go and pick dragon fruit! I've always wanted to try one.
Usually in the States you get red Dragonfruit, which isnt as sweet as the yellow ones.
My friend and I are planning a trip to Ecuador in the next 2 months.Vilacabamba will definitely be a place we will visit. I’m amazed at all the fruits and vegetables. I was also happy to hear there are psilocybe cubensis there too. I would like to go on a gathering trip also
Cool man! Come say hello.
New to your channel can you make a vid about why you live in Ecuador and how you get by etc? Your farm is amazing
Thats a long story, but yes, I will do that if there is interest

Much love from Santa Cruz!
Making rah-pey with the papery eucalyptus bark. Roasted and split pithy pulp of the cacao fruit can be juiced. Relennia is an experience and can be crafted into a fermented drink.
Yeah the cacao juice is awesome, but Ive only had it from raw pods
Great video! What an abundance of life there. 'Lookin' forward to visiting there before Thanksgiving (2020). 'Checkin' out AirBnB locations and trip schedules. So, I must be getting close to serious. Since I just discovered your channel, along with finishing my Michel Thomas TOTAL SPANISH audio Spanish lesson CDs before I depart, I will also watch the rest of your videos. Thanks again! - Jim from Phoenix, AZ USA
Right on! We have a few rental options here, nightly, weekly, or monthly.Email phoenixflames@gmx.com Look forward to meeting you!
The tree in the beginning.. was it Kapok?
I dont think so. The Kapok desn't have thorns and has wide thin roots
@@Illumignostic i think kapok is quite thorny.. semiosispax.com/2018/03/27/tree-vs-tree-why-kapok-trees-have-big-nasty-thorns/
@@mariaamelchenko6742 That's the tree alright. Google gave me a bunch of pics of rubber trees instead for some reason.
It's a hulico tree I believe.
Always pronounced yellow dragonfruit as pit-eye-uh
That's more correct, since there is no h sound. But there is an a... so more like pita-eye-uh
What is the deal with marijuana in Vilcabamba? Is it acceptable for medicinal and recreational use? Easy to get? Inexpensive?
there is medical marijuana, but I dont know the specifics. Very conservative countyr, must be carefuol
There's sort of a neighbourhood watch around there. But definitely around if you talk to the right people. It's sort of decriminalised for small amounts in Ecuador, but dont be getting caught buying any.
Pile of sugar.
No nutrition, and not food. Our food is meat,
