Sorry the calcs are off a bit 'cos i wasn't paying attention. max damage for crit eldritch smite + banashing smite. I think was something like 198 damage max
the other thing to keep in mind with the hexblade is it is now probably the strongest lvl 1 dip in the game. If your playing a blade bard, rogue, even paladin, any character that values their CHA, hexblade is hard to rationalize not dipping into. On top of this medium armor, shields, shield spell, eldrictch blast, hexblade curse, all make this dip look even more tantalizing. For example a hexblade one blade bard X makes the blade bard just straight up better. You loose a bit of spell progression but gain so much in its place, one of the most powerful being that shield proficiency that is so critical for a squishy front line fighter.
I would say that's right on target. considering the wording of hexblade's curse it's just an amazing pick-up for everyone. I can see Monks having the time of their lives with a 1lv dip into this. Flurry, Flurry and more flurry!
Is this a bit broken in your opinion? I can't think offhand of a class that allows one to manipulate NPCs, employ melee attacks and use the same ability for spell casting... Seems prodigiously SAD...
A fighter will still be doing more damage and have a much higher AC + hp pool. hexblade 1/ bladebard X just has more versatility with spell casting and persuasion. And is more badass thematically imo.
Conquest Paladins especially get so much out of a 1 level hexblade dip. It's extremely valuable to max out that DC against the paladins fear abilities WHILE removing your need to increase strength over a 15 (for heavy armor). Take all of 1 more level in warlock and you can have an eldritch blast that can potentially pull an enemy into your fear aura?! Wow I'm lightheaded... *thump*
Pact of the Blade Hexblade = Great Weapon Master + Polearm Master + Sentinel. Since you are swing that big Polearm with Charisma instead of Strength (and even gaining the +10 damage from Great Weapon Master), need only 2 ASIs to increase Charisma from 16 to 20 with point buy system. With Charisma, you can swing your Polearm up to 4 times each turn (Attack + Extra Attack + Bonus Attack + Reaction). All those attacks receive extra damage from Life Drinker and/or Great Weapon Master. As usual, you're good at range with Eldritch Blast + Invocations. You also has access to Cone of Cold for area damage (too bad they removed Wrathful Wave, but I think that would be too broken to be true). Finally, you can land some Eldritch Smites. With the 19-20 chance to critical, you can deal up to +10d8 _extra damage,_ plus other bonus. Finally, Polearm gives you reach advantage as usual. That said, I think Polearm Hexblade makes a nice Gish character.
you know it, I did a video about a year ago, Glaivelock. but if I rebuilt it then I'd definitely consider hexblade. love the class and love the patron.
I got to do a Palock recently and it was great. Just need enough Str for Full Plate and then dump the rest into Cha. I went Half-Elf and was able to take advantage of the feat that they get to roll 3d20 on advantage attacks made with the mental stats. I wasn't high enough to get the specter but one thing I like to point out with these things is that they are incorporeal. You can have them sink into the ground and swipe up. This should provide at least 3/4 cover.
Accursed Specter is awesome. I love the idea of stabbing my opponent with my glaive and ripping their soul from their body. The specter is also great for flanking, has tons of resistance and immunity, and it can fly. If you’re using a specter in sunlight consider casting shadow of moil to give it dim light to operate in.
Ayyyy I got featured, nice! I wish Accursed Specter scaled better, because just spawning a lone CR 1 with a single attack option does not seem good as you gain levels. I wish you could've spawned higher CR or multiple lower CR creatures that are all Spirits. THP equal to 1/2 warlock level, and cha mod to hit one per long rest doesn't seem like it's nearly enough. The Creature should at least have more versatile options.
I want to multi class the new samurai w/hexblade & reskin everything to be radiant & have a sentient katana be my patron... dragon born samurai trying to be the world's greatest swordsman
Drow Bard it's entirely for the RP the xanithars versions sux plus it'd only b 3 lvl..?? (Hexblades last perk is 17) Temp hp vs barb dmg resistance, they reduced the advantage to atk from until the end of ur next round too just 1 round.. they combined the 7th & 10th lvl ability from UA basically the only thing good about it is the 18th lvl ability & it's not very handy it's just super cool too potential unleash 12 atk during the enemy's turn when they kill u
Ah, i see. You could go battle master and just call yourself a samurai. You'd probably be more versatile and probably have more fun. Still, There is a lot to be said for the joy that playing the character brings. Keep me posted.
Drow Bard yeah I could just make my pack weapon always be a katana thus making me a samurai... but they made a subclass for it, feels bad goin ehh thnx but no thnx I'll just warlock it & be a samurai bc I said so lol
Did not put that neverwinter connection together till you pointed it out lol very similar Just discovered you a few weeks ago and I’m liking the content and all the builds keep up the awesome work man
Thanks bud, I just tend to pick up people who pass by. But it pleases me you enjoy the content as it's all a bit of fun and if others get something out of it then that's awesome. Welcome to the channel!
One line of thinking I can see with the spectre is a monoclass, purely hexblade spell selection ability to give yourself flanking ability in a pinch. They did probably do it for cross-platform association though.
Specter makes me want to create a fallen Aasimar hexblade that uses his/her blade to kill large numbers of people and raises a small army with either finger of death or Danse macabre in a short time. (Note in our games the fallen swings grant flight, all 3 subraces get wings and their transformations last 1 hour total each day but can be toggled on/off. This becomes a “you can do this as long as you want” at 15th level in our games too)
I'm building an ranged hexblade Spell sniper Sharpshooter Hex weapon is a hand crossbow Devilsight evocation Eldritch spear evocation I have maxed charisma The problem I have is that hexblade caps out at 14 so I don't know what to add in there for my multi class
Edit: ive decided to multiclass arcane Archer Pact of the blade Improved pact weapon, archery fighting style witha new longbow This makes my long bow a +3 weapon , and also everytime i ahoot somebody I can add one of my arcane shot option to the attack. Couple that with fighters extra attack and action surge makes this a very deadly Archer without having to burn my pact magic spells .
Already making a Hexblade :) But I don’t know, somehow it feels wrong not to be a pact of the blade as a Hexblade. I’m slowly starting to change my mind I think, perhaps I just get hung up on the HexBLADE part
I'm not sure why you like elemental weapon so much. It's clearly inferior to just the Hex spell until you use level 5 spell slots, and even then it's meh.

I got a dexterity based hexblade paladin right now. the synergy between the 2 classes is actually pretty sweet.

Yeeeaah you got featured bro! and you're totally right, the scaling is poor. but it's there so use it.
I’m trying out a hexblade build that utilizes Devil’s Sight and Darkness.
8 months later, how’d it go?
I want to multi class the new samurai w/hexblade & reskin everything to be radiant & have a sentient katana be my patron... dragon born samurai trying to be the world's greatest swordsman
Sounds fun, I think I need to re-read the samurai as I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet.
Drow Bard it's entirely for the RP the xanithars versions sux plus it'd only b 3 lvl..?? (Hexblades last perk is 17)

Test it, let me know if it works.

Hexblade/shadow monk for maximum no jutsu teleportation and hexblade/swashbuckler for adding dmg to your dmg.

Interesting concept, I should do some research on the Aasimar to see what the are like now. I should pick up some new source material.
I'm building an ranged hexblade
Spell sniper
Sharpshooter
Hex weapon is a hand crossbow
Devilsight evocation
Eldritch spear evocation
I have maxed charisma
The problem I have is that hexblade caps out at 14 so I don't know what to add in there for my multi class
Edit: ive decided to multiclass arcane Archer
Pact of the blade

Would a shadar kai using his spiked chain work for a hexblade?
Already making a Hexblade :)

So you're not going P.o.B? Test it, let me know if it works.
Thanks!
No prob, I am a river unto my people :D
Can you talk about Melee Sorcs?
I'm not sure why you like elemental weapon so much. It's clearly inferior to just the Hex spell until you use level 5 spell slots, and even then it's meh.
yo, do you think you could make scorpion? any variation works but I'm really curious on how you would make it work.
I wasn't going to, but it's been asked for, I can't say no. You got it.
Drow Bard are you doing all the variations or one very specialized variation like ya did with sub zero?
Both, If I can. you'll see.
