    Darkvision
"You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray."
So in Darkness a creature with darkvision sees in dim light and Skulker removes dim light disadvantage, making it stronger on a creature with darkvision than a creature without. It is a go to feat for any shadowy character.

The first observation on the list seems to ignore the rogues ability to fire from range while in or behind their obscurity.

Feats like magic initiate, drow high magic, fey teleportation, and wood elf magic that say you “learn” a spell have even further use for “known” spell casters.
If you “learn” a spell, and that spell is on your casters spell list, then you’ve also gained a spell “known”. If you are of a class level to be able to “know” that spell then you can use your spell slots to cast it again.
This makes options like magic initiate and fey teleportation great options for Eldritch knights and arcane tricksters as they are ways to bypass their subclass school limitations, and those base classes also get more feats to offset the cost.
Drow high Magic’s list of spells all happen to be on the sorcerer spell list, so you gain 3 spells known, one of which can be casted at will.

The observant feat is awesome because it basically saves you actions. Since it specifically increases your passive perception, your actually probably better off not using the search action if something is still hidden from you. This is because your passive perception is now 15+Wis+proficiency if applicable. Since your passive is now 75% of your possible roll, you know your chances are very low of actively finding the creature and have that much more reason to use your actions for something else.

Phenomenal video! I’d love to see more like this that explore the mechanics of the game as a whole

I found prodigy amazing. A dm wanted to do a heavily Asian inspired setting. I did my homework and leaned deeply into the idea and ninja using a rogue with a few levels in monk for some martial Arts and the spiritual aspect. (No crazy Ninjitsu magic stuff, I had other tools.) After showing my dm the things I wanted my character to do he said I could alchemy to create some firecrackers or minor explosives and smoke bombs to cover escapes and poisons for blow gun needles. Prodigy added so many fun ways to use his environment.

Just because skulker doesn't reveal your position on a miss doesn't mean you have surprise. The target realizes they are being attacked when the arrow whizzes past their head, they just don't know from where. If they finally hit on the 20th arrow even the dimmest monster should realize you shot at them 19 times already.

IMO, if you have the dex to get Medium Armour Master, then you probably have the dex to get AC 17 with studded leather armour. Now, you might argue "but it is still an increase of +1 AC with this feat, which may be considered useful. besides you can't get AC 18 with studded leather" and that is correct, but you could with light armor take Fighting Initiate: Defence for +1 AC now with the added benefit that you are allowed to sleep in your light armour without any negatives.

Getting ready to move our campaign into high tier. So excited because I started as a youngin in 2nd edition and ran my last campaign in early 3.5 but 5th edition has been a blast to learn and be a player in over the last few years and while the campaign I'm playing in moves to the next step I'm starting my very first 5th edition campaign. Its been a while and I'm nervous lol

Awesome, What kind of characters have you got on the table?

    • @opsecmedic
      @opsecmedic 4 года назад +2

@@DrowBard right now I'm playing a variant human with spell sniper feat to augment eldritch blast while the first 3 levels were warlock celestial patron pact of the chain with the rest of the levels being divine soul sorcerer which has resulted in this really nice rough and tumble field medic where I use metamagic and healing abilities but mainly what I do in combat is stay midline or back and use mold earth to make a five ft hole and hop into it to gain cover while I shoot eldritch blast and spells. I have even used the mold earth to bury myself in the hole while holding my breath when overwhelmed by enemies. The rules for breath holding actually gave my companions a centaur barbarian pole arm master, a half elf gloomstalker and a halfling lore bard time to come over and wreck them so I could unbury myself and give the heals.

@@opsecmedic hell yeah, thats a nifty use of mold earth. leave it to Drow Bard to have a constructive comment section.

I'm going to run a dex paladin
So I'd like to take the mobile feat pretty early if possible.

Happy to see Observant make a list. Have an Inquisitive Rogue Lvl 11 Passive Perception of 27 thanks to Observant and expertise. Now with reliable talent I think the lowest I can roll is 22 in Perception.

I usually customize my background proficiencies by trading out the 2 languages for tool proficiencies I actually want.
Then pick the 2 skill proficiencies I want.
Afterward I peruse through the features of all of the available backgrounds to pick the one that best fits my character.
Some background features definitely make a lot more impact depending on the DM and campaign though.
