Firstly, thank you so much Nurse Zabe for all of your amazing content, you have helped me enormously all throughout my first pregnancy. Secondly I'm leaving this comment to support all those expecting mothers who are watching this particular video with growing mounting fear about their first post partum poop. I'm hereto say please don't worry! Please don't build it up in your mind like I did. I had my little boy a week ago today and yes the first time I had to do a #2 after the birth was really horrible. If I'm honest I wasn't prepared for how painful it would be, even knowing taking iron tablets during pregnancy and already being constipated pre birth was likely to make it worse for me. BUT everyone please remember we are all different - many people have no issues at all AND I DIDN'T continue to have pain after the first #2. I was so worried I would and I got myself in a state about it. I watched every video, read every comment on the topic. There was no need to be so anxious. The answer for me was stool softener (twice a day as directed) and LOTS of water. I'm also still having a probiotic drink each day, fruit juice, eating prunes, eating fruit, yoghurt etc. Get some things in like this in before you give birth ideally, as I didn't start with juices etc. until after the first #2, if I had before I think I wouldn't have had such pain with the first. This is just my experience, but honestly it's going to be ok ladies, you can do it :-)

I had a vaginal birth with a 2 degree tear. I was drinking all the water, tons of stool softeners and miralax and I still didn't poop until day 5. I thought I was going to die on the toilet like Elvis 😅 The mama Frida bottle and wipes helped a lot and holding pressure with toilet paper while pushing. I'm still traumatized from the first few poops lol 😆

This is so very informational and helpful. A nurse tried to give me a whole bunch of laxative in the hospital less than 24 hours after birth. It totally freaked me out and I refused it. It took a while to get things moving but coffee worked really well for me being just enough of a gentle “laxative” to get things going. I was not prepared for the possibility of a hemorrhoid, and it took me quite a while to figure out what was wrong. That was by far the worst part of recovery for me.

    • @Nurse_zabe

Ugh, yes the hemorrhoids after my second were almost worse than the birth itself 😅😅

after i had my baby i went 6 days without pooping, at that point my husband bought me some sugar free gummy bears. Went from unable to poop to not sure if i could make it to the toilet. I suggest if anyone eats sugar free gummy bears do so on the toilet. there was no pushing needed.

I waited to comment until I was FULLY no longer constipated. 20 days PP as of today. First urge to poo was around 4 or 5 days PP. I can’t even begin to tell you how I don’t want to ever be pregnant/delivering again BECAUSE OF THE POOOOOO!!!!! As of today, after 15 days and many poop sessions, I am no longer constipated.

Magnesium citrate, it stimulates the smooth muscles in the gut to do it for you much like when your body pushes baby out on its own. Drastically reduces or eliminates any straining, and makes it soft.

I think I had about 2 or 3 traumatizing poops after birthing my baby girl. First few weeks I wasn’t pooping then all of a sudden I thought I had a hemorrhoid or something. Then once I felt the pressure I thought it was going to be easy… I was on the toilet for what I believe was HOURS, trying to get it to pass. Literally thought it was another baby🔥 Hot tea didn’t help, laxative didn’t help, any liquid or hydration just didn’t matter. First two poops were just unreal😭🫠‼️ I’m praying that this one is not like that, I’m due in 3 weeks. Thank you for the tips!

Currently 36 weeks with my 4th baby. Following the birth of my 1st baby (vaginal birth with a completely unnecessary 4th degree episiotomy) I was terrified of the postpartum poop. I asked my baby's pediatrician about taking stool softeners as I was nervous about it affecting baby through breastfeeding. The pediatrician told me it wasn't safe to take stool softeners whole breastfeeding!! So I'm just here to say this is false information & take those stool softeners!

Had a csection and my bowels stopped working and I didn't have a bowl movement for 3 days and had to take ALL kinds of laxatives and they took 3 days to work ... and also pushing it was a big no no ... so just load up on stool softeners and make stool super soft so no pushing. Also , prune juice was my friend . You almost want to have a mini diarrhea if you know what I mean lol

Was 35 weeks and water broke so we went to the hospital. They checked me and I was complete and ready to push. Tore horribly. I was expecting an epidural but that wasn’t an option.
