  • We purchased this solar cover reel system from Amazon to help with our solar cover. Just a few DIY modifications here and there to make it a little better. A good buy for around $80 on Amazon. We also purchased an additional reel set without the pole for extra parts for $22.. Thanks for watching!

    The directions for mine are one page with 5 pictures on it. I had so many questions. I searched and searched on RUclips until I finally found this video. Perfect. I have a 24ft, but otherwise the exact same system. I'm very nervous to get it installed correctly, but now at least I have complete directions.

    All is great except for unrolling especially when you have a thicker plastic. My solution is tying a long strap on each side of the cover that you pull when you want to unroll. You just need to be two persons pulling at the same time. Now all is working just great

    Hey great video.. I was wondering would it be possible to do a post on both side of the pool. Like in your post video but closer to the pool edges. Would the 3 feet straps long enough or does the cover have to have extra length?

    Your video was very informative and very well done. I have an in-ground kidney shaped pool and my thought was to put the roller at the end but you correctly displayed the advantage of rolling from the middle with an irregular (non-rectangular) cover. However my issue is the brackets. It's great that one can remove the rod with cover and put it aside but the reel remains on both sides and that is a tripping or cut hazard. What are your thoughts about some sort of flat-with-rounded-edges pedestals for the reels and then removing the reels and rod when the pool is in use. I want to figure a way to get everything out of the way; not just the cover but the reels too.

  • @dennislaperriere2185

    Same reel setup. Found this video as we’re having issues with the reel just spinning on the rod. Saw you used gorilla tape. I used some but ran out. There is a significant size difference between the hole on the reel and rod ends being so much smaller.

      @@GreenMountainDIYGuy it isn't as aesthetically pleasing to have a crumpled up blanket over your pool either. My pole is usually across the middle of the pool rolled up. So I have to look at it and any company that comes over sees it too.

    Hey Green Mountain DIY Guy- great video, and I have a quick question. How is this for unrolling the cover back onto the pool? Is it easy for 1 person to do once the reel is across the pool? Just seems like the unrolling process the cover wouldn't really naturally want to extend out both ways maybe?
    Thanks!

    • @GreenMountainDIYGuy
      @GreenMountainDIYGuy  4 года назад +8

      Great question. Unrolling can be somewhat of an art form. There are good days and bad ones. With that said, I installed two pool noodles on each end of the cover. This helps keep cover from sinking with rolling it out. I should do a video on this when we get the pool going later this Spring. Thanks for watching.

    • @GreenMountainDIYGuy

      Once in a while it will shift. You can roll up the straps (more taunt) to help prevent this in windy conditions. I just replaced the straps last summer. Good for a couple of years. Thanks for watching.

    I wonder what kind of bubble plastic was used and how it works. It does seem like the type you buy for insulation in buildings or bubblewrap to protect things when you move. Some of these types are UV stabilised etc. So I wonder what type of cover you used and how it works out when it come sto deterioration. Thx!
