  • With nearly 2 seasons gone by our Hydrotools 52000 Above Ground Swimming Pool Solar Reel System has been a great additional to the DIY swimming pool. In the original videos I never showed how easy it is to roll out the cover for one person. I also replaced the straps and added a nice DIY upgrade with the pool noodles!
    Thanks for watching!

So glad I found your video. I’m a 72 yo female and have had this system for several years. I don’t have any problems rolling up the cover, but unrolling has required me to get into the pool and pull the 2 parts away from each other ugh. Tomorrow I will be buying pool noodles! Thank you so much.

The pool noodles... Seriously, you sir are a genius!
Unrolling for one person was one of my big things keeping me from wanting to buy a solar cover reel, this follow up video of yours has shown me that it can be easy to do! Thank you!

It is working out pretty well. I am going to change those noodles this weekend as they have worn out from the sun!

I use one of these solar blanket reel's on my round pool as well. I love your idea with the pool noodles at the edges!

Use the handle end of an old skimmer pole (minus the net, and make sure the handle is completely over the end of the pole) and use handle end of pole to help guide the portions of the cover you can't reach to either end of the pool. YW

Pool noodles are a great idea. Just be warned, after a couple seasons or so they start to disintegrate and all those little noodle particles get into the pool/filter. FYI

Thanks for posting this video! In your opinion would this also work installed on posts outside of the pool instead of the top rail? I can't seem to find any video examples of this specific product being installed that way, and I really like the sturdiness of this one.

It should work with no issue at all on post set outside of the pool.

Would this work for a 27’ pool and a woman with average stamina? I would have to hire it installed. Your video are up there with the best. Thanks!

Thanks! Unfortunately, I do not believe Hydrotools makes a 27 pool Reel System. I could be wrong...

I have a question for you. I have almost the exact set up as you do. I have a similar deck situation, and I have the same set of steps. My question is, in the winter time, how do you put your winter cover on your pool? I don't like to take the steps out. I am just wondering what your process is for the cover. I know if you remove the handrail then the steps are free floating. I am trying to figure out a better way to attract the steps to the pool and not at the handrail.

I take the steps out for each winter. If not, the steps would be destroyed with 3 feet of ice. Two people can take out pretty easy. A bear if doing it by yourself, but I've done it solo before.

What do you do in the winter time with the holders that are screwed to the pool? Seems they would get in the way of winter cover

    • @GreenMountainDIYGuy
      @GreenMountainDIYGuy  Год назад

They come out at the end of the season and are stored for the winter. Re-install in the Spring.

did you have to buy a third post holder? when you swing the cover out of the way, you sank a 4x4 post in the ground and then put the solar cover reel to the post, or did the kit come with the third foot for the post to attach to?

Yes, I purchased an extra set of holders. Thanks for watching.

Did you fold the cover in the center and clip it on each side of the fold?

Did you have to screw the reel to the rod?

How high do they lift up while pivoting? We need one to lift up over our deck railing.

I have a country way 5 gallon cordless Sprayer with a 5Ah 12 volt SLA Battery part# AB1250. They're pretty cheap and easy to replace. Is there a Lithium ion option that can work better?
