I'm curious as to the thickness of your cover. I have a 27' dia pool. My cover thickness (including the bubble) is 0.25". I am preparing to install the same reel you have and am concerned that the rolled up cover will be too thick to clear the top rail of the pool to swing out of the way if I don't raise the assembly up a few inches. Yours seems to clear just fine. I'd appreciate your thoughts!
my pool is 26' dia and I have no issues. Depending on if your reel is in the center, you may need to fold in the two sides a foot to roll it up anyway.
@@nextleveldiy Thanks for your quick response. As there's only 5" of clearance between the tube and the foot, I was concerned that the thickness of the rolled up cover would exceed the 5" dim.
The link for purchase doesn't appear to be a complete reel and tube. It appears there are two separate items needed or used. Can you provide the link for the tube kit needed/used?
This is exactly what I need! How big is your pool, and how long is your reel if you don’t mind me asking? I have a 28’ round pool built level into the end of a deck (so I can only walk around about 2/3 of the pool). Trying to figure out what length of reel I would need for a setup like this. Do you find that the pool ledge could handle the weight ok when it’s pivoted? That’s my only concern.
The reel I bought was adjustable to most size pools. You can slide the main beam to make it shorter or longer. My pool is 26' and the pool edge is plenty strong to hold the weight. The reel is all aluminum and the solar cover is not that heavy.
How are you unrolling it so you just flip one side over? Mine unrolls & one side is literally stuck UNDER the side that flows! I rather have to fight it with a broom stick to try & keep them separate so.i can grab it OR like yesterday had to actually get back in the pool to fight & separate them😢
Attach 1/2 of a pool noodle to the middle of each side of the cover. With the pump off crank to unwind. The top part of the cover will float away from the reel with its noodle. Both sides move away from each other and the top doesn't get pulled under by the bottom like in the video. Except a hard wind can blow the top under the bottom.
So I have a 15 by 24 oval pool do I just buy a solar cover, and then buy the real I'm confused cuz I don't know I've never done this before I want to use the solar cover reel as a way to keep it covered in the winter cuz it's hard for me to put on a cover by myself. If you know of a place that sells them for less than like $200 let me know for everything including the solar cover
This may be a dumb question, but how does your cover stay in place with your pump on? I always seem to have issues with it pushing out or water pumping onto the cover
Make sure your return jet is pointing down towards bottom of the pool. Mine was originally to the side and would break the surface of the water thus pushing my cover away from the return. Once I adjusted it completely downward it stopped moving when the pump was running
Thanks for the video questions and answers. I'm new to this and trying to figure it all out. When the pump is running. Does the cover get pulled into the skimmer? Thanks so much for your time !!!
I see several posts inquiring about the link for the reel cover in this video & you only post it was just posted without providing the actual link- am I the only one NOT seeing this “just posted”link mentioned several times?
I have a 27ft pool and the reel I got is only about 2in to 3in in diameter and sags something bad, even though it is said to fit my size pool. I’m thinking I need something 4in to 6in In diameter to prevent this. Any recommendations?
Curious, what size pool do you have? My husband and I just purchased a house and it has a 32ft round above ground pool. I am not sure if the solar cover reel for a 28 foot pool would work well enough. I think it may, but thought i would ask....thanks!
Your would need to attach the reel to an area on your 32' pool where it is only 28' across, meaning off center as I did. This means you will be folding the edges of the cover before rolling up.
Question: it seems you have a three section tubing, I have five and its not straight. I also noticed your reel is not centered on the pool, what's your take on that. Mine is extra long and it almost bowed into the pool without the cover.
Correct, its not centered. That's what I needed to do to fit my situation but it works just the same. My tubing bows a little but that's normal. As long as the tubing is overlapping into each other enough, it should be ok.
Is that box with black hose a home made solar heater? It looks similar to what I have used but nicely placed in a box of some sort. I would like to get the DIY from you please. Thanks
It has straps that are fastened to the cover with clips. You will need to make a few small punctures through the cover but it wont affect the cover at all.
@@nextleveldiy I know that yes. But it’s impossible to install while the cover is in the pool, that’s what I meant. I guess you have to attach the cover while it’s off the pool. Put the cover on the ground somewhere and make a line in the center to attach the straps
Unfortunately no. I will walk around my pool and grab what I can reach first. I roll it up slow and have my skimmer in hand ready to grab anything left.
They sell a rack thattook me 10 minutes to install - It just hangs on the outside of the pool. - I pull the cover off and into the rack in under 60 seconds and back onto the pool in the same amount of time. Try not to over engineer.
How big is your pool and how thick is the cover? I tried those hooks and a 24' 16 mil cover was absolutely brutal to maneuver by myself. This reel is a life saver.
I've also tried that but with a 27' pool, it's very difficult. The cover gets water on it making it hard to keep it in a long thin roll to throw over the edge. It's also difficult to pull back over and you have to be in the pool to spread it back out. I've been using the racks on the outside now for a couple weeks and although it make work for some people, it's a 2 person job that requires you to be in the pool. Take me about 5 minutes to get on the rack and 15 minutes to get back in the pool and laid out nicely. Lot of work when water gets on the cover, good shoulder workout though. I've also had problems with the cover hitting the dirt on the outside because water was preventing it from being stretched out perfectly if that makes sense
DAMNED CLEVER WAY TO USE A TOO-SHORT (but affordable USED one) ON A TOO-WIDE CIRCULAR POOL - THANKS!
-Mark in North Aurora IL
easy to store, looks like it should work well. Not warm enough outside yet to test

did you to cut your panel? I am asking because I bought a 21’ ft panel for our 21’ ft pool.. its like 6 feet to big.. ridiculous. yours fits nicely.
Next Level DIY = Building the reel yourself. Looks like something PVC or ABS could be used for and be quite affordable.
The span and weight are probably too much for anything other than aluminum.
where do you swing out to when not in use? couldn't see how it sits when you have it rolled up and out of the way. Great video though...thanks!
I've seen people put a post in the ground with another rack holder, so you'd need 3 holders to make that work. Kinda the way to go I think
The link for purchase doesn't appear to be a complete reel and tube. It appears there are two separate items needed or used. Can you provide the link for the tube kit needed/used?
Thanks for the update, I just fixed it. This used to be a complete kit but it looks like they broke out all parts.

Great tip!

@UGotHookah you cannot use a solar blanket in the winter. You might need to call a professional pool company to teach you how to maintain your pool

Is that a round pool? My constant problem with the reel in the middle is it NEVER rolls up well. It over laps & just keeps sliding
It is a round pool and my reel is off center. I don't have any issues with the on and off. Not sure what you mean by overlaps?
Did you purposely make it off-center for a reason? Getting ready to install mine. Getting anxious about drilling for the bracket
Does it look round?
So how is it now? Any pull on your pool? Is it staying steady or ripping out?
absolutely no issues at all.....been 4 yrs running

So seeing that you have a 24' pool and your reel isn't centered, did you purchase an 18' reel?
The reel is adjustable. There are holes in the tubes for different lengths.
I see straps from the reel to the solar cover how did you attach those to the solar cover?
The straps attach with plastic brackets and plastic screw on fasteners. You will have to make small holes in the cover at each location.

I am looking at making a new version and I will definitely make a video.
We have an above ground with a deck built all around...any ideas for using something like this?
I would mount the reel to the deck instead of the pool edge.
How high does this lift up when pivoting? We need one to lift up over our deck railing.
i just pick up one end by hand, not that heavy. not sure you can lift one end that high by itself.
How does the solar cover effect your chemical balances? We don’t have a cover, or chlorine level is usually crap because of it.
Chlorine breaks down from the sun's UV rays. A solar cover will help slow down that process extending the life of your Chlorine.
How do you attach the straps to the cover?? My réel would be in the middle of the pool… you have to hover from a helicopter over the pool???
It has straps that are fastened to the cover with clips. You will need to make a few small punctures through the cover but it wont affect the cover at all.

Any pointers on how to avoid leaves and whatever that have collected on the cover, from falling into the pool?

Leaf blower
I use a pool net. Works great.
does this come with the tube or did you have to buy that separately
Everything was included

Just added.

What does it pick up use string rope i dont see how it attaches to cover
The reel comes with straps and snaps that connect to the cover.
Didn't see you taking it off the pool. Do you just move it out of the way or do both sides come off?
Technically the whole thing can be removed but it leave one side on and swing it out of the way to a stand I built.
That's what I was wondering. Can you show the stand?
I have an 18 foot above ground pool and I put and take off my solar blanket by hand, I'm 5'2 and 60 years old
Doesn’t the base get in the way of the winter cover when you put it on?
I take out the 4 screws that hold the base to the pool edge. Then put it back in the spring.
Looking for the link for model

Where do I get the cradle for the 4 x 4 to set the reel in?
