    My Great Grandfather worked on a cattle ranch when he was young. They had a cook very similar to this gentleman. He said they'd make hundred mile trips to a big town auction, buy 100-200 cows and guide them back to the ranch which took almost a week, they brought their cook with a chuck wagon. When they were in town at the auction, their cook would stock up at the general store, and he'd make biscuits and gravy for his boys, but a few of the towns people got a free bowl of it and went crazy, women begged for his recipes while men lined up for a real treat! Every auction they went to, the town would be anxiously awaiting their cook with the wagon! That was quite possibly the very first edition of the "Food Trucks" that we enjoy today. I'm certain that your chuck wagon would've been mentioned in history books. 😁👍

    I remember going to the Spoon River Drive at London Mills, it had all sorts of crazy good, homemade food. Such as smoked turkey legs, onion rings, kettle corn, apple cider slushies, pork rinds, and even blooming onions. I highly recommend going there once it's safe to be in crowded areas. It's got some charm and delicious comfort food.

    To slice the onions easily, you can use a small baking ring, or a capsule from a bottle of milk. Place the onion in the ring/capsule and it's easy to slice them :)

    At Outback we drop them in the fryer inverted. The cooking process, in and of itself in this position, "opens" the onion as it cooks. In addition to this, the removal allows the grease to drain as it's being pulled out of the vat.

    • @MrKevin486
      @MrKevin486 3 года назад +7

      Yes that makes a lot of sense to do it upside down like that. The steam going upwards out of the oil will force the onion to open up rather then press it back together.
