This was the song I used for our first dance at our wedding. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to the happiest day of my life. It's funny how a song can do that :-)
This is mad mad talent. Passion and grit! Listen to the inflections at the end of some of her notes. Man!!! Love both this and the Donna summer version equally well.
Donna Sumers version is more sultry. Anne Wilson's vocals are more gritty, i love and have both versions in my collection. The arrangements are identical, chord for chord. RIP lovely Donna!
The hair on my neck stands up whenever I listen to this song. I tried listening to Donna's version and it was great too but the hair didn't stand. I concluded 'justice' was done to the song by Ann's rendition... which is why I would agree that they made it theirs.
I went in search of the Donna Summer version of this song after reading the comments on this one. Donna Summer and Quincy Jones do an excellent job however, I prefer Ann's gritty pain filled vocals. Thanks for the music lesson. Didn't know it was a Donna Summer song. Cool.
Arrangement and production is on point but vocals by Donna Summer are far superior. You can hear the tenderness of a woman in her voice. Don't get it twisted though, been a Heart fan since I can remember.
Miles Junk Removal Miles, true, Donna is more sultry, Anne's is more gritty. The end result is still a very good rendition on Heart's behalf. I would love to see what Pink, Lady GaGa or Celine would do with this song today.
To me, this has always been a Heart song and I love it. I only just found out Donna Summer did it first so I listened to her version and it's very lovely! Donna's vocals are definitely a little more "pretty" and feminine, but Heart's version is still my fav even though they're both great!
this is the first time I heart Heart's version of 'The woman in me', which was good but you can not compare it with Donna Summer's version. Donna's version give me goosebumps when I here the vocals.AND DID HEART RELEASE THIS AS A SINGLE AND HOW DID IT DO ON THE CHARTS...?
First tine hearing this and its actually pretty good. Donna’s voice is far superior, but the music track here is less “dated” and sounds like it was a digital versus an analog recording too.
I think it's ironic that the ad showing on this video says: "Heart attack signs?...." Why, yes, indeed, I think I had a 'Heart' attack a long time ago, and it's still affecting me to this day! :-D Love this song!
THEIR MUSIC HAS ONLY ONE AGENDA...TO SUDUCE THE MIND SWEET MUSIC AND A VERY POWERFUL WEPOND AT THE SAME TIME HMN...........EERIE...! ON MY WAY TO THE OFFICE THIS MORNING AND THIS MASTER PIECE WAS ON THE RADIO...THINK ITS 97..... WHAT A WAY TO START YOUR WORK DAY...
A very powerful lovely pop/ rock ballad, vocally difficult. Great vocals by Heart: wonderful. Did not make the Top 40; some modern rock and some Adult Contemporary played it.
I like both Donna's and Heart's versions equally well, except that I will say that Heart's has a less dated arrangement. Both versions deserved to be major hits but sadly neither was. Both Donna and Ann rank among the greatest and most powerful voices of our time.
I was surprised neither was a hit either. Both released as singles. I assume the record companies or radio stations did not get behind them enough. I don't recall hearing either version on the radio. Interestingly, Donna's album which this song was featured on, was also called "The Woman in Me" when it was first released. Some months later the record company changed the title of the album to "Donna Summer". Therefore, early copies of the LP vinyl are collector's items.
Dotty Gale FYI Donna's version hit number 33 on the pop charts and number 30 on the r&b charts, so it was a top 40 hit for her. Also, it must have received airplay to chart that high. I remember hearing it on the radio as well. Mostly on r&b "quiet storm" programs. I bought the self titled Donna Summer album the week it was released and it wasn't labeled "The Woman In Me". I have asked the person who runs the Donna tribute site to see if that's true.
Peter D Also, this was the 3rd single from the Donna Summer album, following Love Is In Control (Finger on the Trigger) and State Of Independence and rarely is the 3rd single from an album a big hit.
1983 was a tough period for Donna Summer because of the backlash against disco that caused a lot of Dee Jays to just ignore her records at that time. And when Heart released this they were the only Seattle band that could not get promotion from the record companies. They were neither Grunge Nor Alternative at a time period when those styles were big. Both versions of the song came out at the wrong time to be hits. But what were they supposed to do wait 5 years for the current fad to pass.?
Can't compare both. Heart did just a very respectful version cadering to Ann's voice. Had I heard Donna Summer's version back when it was released I probably would favor hers. However I just found Hearts version first. Im a sucker for heart covers
I don't want to sound biased but if you're born in the 70s chances are you would gravitate towards Donna Summer and like wise if you are from the 80s you might like to go with Heart's version; like me. Both are worth their salt but I would like to settle for Heart's version.
I love Donna Summer more, so of course I like her version better. I also think Donna's voice has held up better over the years. Ann is starting to sound a little frayed, and this was 20 years ago too, it's worse now. Donna still sounded great until her death in 2012. As far as this version sounding "less dated", keep in mind Donna's version was released in 1982 when the whole cd "crystal clear" sound was hot. Production of music sounded somewhat "crisp and tin-y". Heart's was released 11 years later in the 90's and the sound of that decade was more analog.
There is no doubt that Ann's voice started to change after the mid 80s. She had the perfect voice in the 70s, One just has to listen to Dreamboat Annie and Little Queen albums to hear this. Her voice today is quite rough, and she struggles with high notes. However, she is in her late 60s now. I have some Heart concert DVDs and her voice is not as good as it was in the 70s. Unlike you, I do prefer Heart's version of "The Woman in Me". It has a more rough and modern feel to it. In addition, Ann's raspy voice actually works well on a track like this. Donna's version is very 80s sounding, but it does have its moments.
RIP Dona Summer, Heart did a honorable thing here 🙏🏿
BOTH VERSIONS ARE JUST SO FREAKIN AMAZING!!! COMPARING THEM IS POINTLESS!! HUGE HEART FAN AND EVEN BIGGER DONNA FAN HERE!!!!!
Always had a huge crush on Ann Wilson such an incredible voice 😊😊❤
welll both donna and heart sang this beautifully...i mean don't make a comparison...both are phenomenal singers wooow...
Love both Versions ...RIP Donna....Heart...very beautiful
Yess
these two sisters are awesome in almost every production they make, plus those beauty genes!!!
Both versions are in my Heart playlist. Thanks for the upload!

The best women in rock music

@@italobambino43I would like to hear Amy Lee or Beyonce remake this and Barbara Streisand Woman in Love.

+Richard Wilson #one
so true..."Donna's version is deeper, this second version is good ...but its just a cover...:P
It was released as a single in 1994 but failed to chart on the Hot 100, peaking on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.
First tine hearing this and its actually pretty good. Donna’s voice is far superior, but the music track here is less “dated” and sounds like it was a digital versus an analog recording too.

it's a woman innermost woman talking to her self expression is really a great lesson of attitude and gratitude
loving heart's version!
+heather stiltner Good taste. This is the ultimate version for sure.
+Sam Toucan I agree!
Heart one of my Favourite Bands

Indeed. Very rarely. Although in cases like Thriller, the 3rd single "Beat It" was a much bigger hit than the first single "The Girl is Mine".
But what were they supposed to do wait 5 years for the current fad to pass.?
my song, love it a little more because i heard it before the original
love Heart till day i die
Nailed it, as expected!
Can't compare both. Heart did just a very respectful version cadering to Ann's voice. Had I heard Donna Summer's version back when it was released I probably would favor hers. However I just found Hearts version first. Im a sucker for heart covers
The difference I see I see is Donna’s had bigger backup vocals. However I would have killed for Heart and Donna teaming up on this!
This isn’t bad but Donna’s voice beats this hands down range and depth..
My favorite version...
THE WOMAN IN ME WITH A AWESOME BY HEART !!!
Hell yeah 👍❤❤❤
OH MY GOODNESS YALL
actually both are good versions, but i prefer Donna's version, you hear the tenderness in her voice, this one is raw and i like it too..
I am a fanatic

Sam Toucan I like both versions. Ann and Donna have two different styles and both did hit the mark on this song!!!
Its so easy with u I don't need an excuse to be the woman in me ,alasX
While it is pleasant its no match for Donna's original.
ME GUSTA MAS CON DONNA SUMMER.
Donna Summer is much better
So sad that they’re not talking....
Dawn Greco I agree.. Wish they would patch things up and make music again..
DONNA SUMMER better hands down donna summer was sexyer
My wish is to sing this song but from a man's perspective....
