The 80's Wasn't a Decade . . It Was a Magical Realm!!!!!
That’s so very true
So spot on.... yesterday while driving an 80's song popped up on the radio ...I was thinking....I wish I could go back and re -live the whole decade!

You forgot the Sixties and Seventies, friend!!!
73 years old, here in Michigan....great music
So you were born in the early 50s. In my opinion, that was a better and happier decade than the present one. I wasn't born until 1993, but I long to have been born before the 90s and I often picture what life would've been like if I were born a few months after WWII ended (the late 1940s).👍
@@BenjaminSpalding-e6w YES, life was so much better back then. Best regards to you 👍

Nothing today compares to the 80s radio
I was born in 1981, I noticed in my teens and 20's that I knew the lyrics to all these great 80's hits that i had never heard before. My mom explained that her and my dad listened to all the big 80's ballads all the time and so I knew them without even realizing it.
Totally
Like a romance novel come to life😊
Late 60s/early 70s progressive-rock radio was MUCH better.
@@humorinpolitics56 Look up the "mere exposure" effect. I think you might be surprised. ;)
Ann’s backing vocals are incredible in this. Just the pure power she puts in at the chorus
Turns out she was sick with a flu when they did the recording… they did multiple recordings after she was better but the flu version turned out to be better so that’s what we have. Moral of the story, always give your best,
@@ilovebohol Ann wasn’t sick, Nancy was.
@@slipknottinyes sorry didnt specify, the lead vocal on the song.
@@ilovebohol yea Nancy was the lead. It might actually be the only Heart song that Nancy is lead.

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
Same. I know exactly what you mean
All of this nostalgia has been magnified now with the pandemic. It makes me long for simpler times for me when I was 9 years old listening to the radio just riding my bike around. Love my 80s
Me too, born march 77. Edited to say I love you guys.
Yes! I remember hearing this song as my dad was painting an old house in my childhood neighborhood when I was 5. Even at the time I felt it...like I knew a lifelong memory was being created even as I was the only one aware. This song takes me right back to that.
I absolutely feel your comment. I was born in 78 and I remember all these songs and they take me back to a place, where I have very specific memories. Time waits for no man and onward we march!
When I hear it now after 40 years, I hear the frequency of God calling to every person with a conscious choice to live.

Love the 80’s, the last era before technology took over. Life was much more simple then and the music was epic!!!! 🥰
Your right about that. The tech back then was simple. Strutting around with my walkman, thinking what a cool gadget, being able to listen to music on the go like that. Hahaha !

I like this song very much... I love u heart...
Same here...
If you're 43 then you were 4-13 years old during the 80's, so more like the soundtrack to your childhood.
I tell people all the time being born in 1976 we barely caught the 80s but nevertheless we caught them I would never forget the 80s.
I'll be 46 this year. This stuff takes me back to middle school dances, morning radio memories as I ate breakfast. The t shirts of these bands on the girls in the school hallways. I miss the 80s.
I am a 44 year old black woman who grew up on MTV. I remember watching this and other rock videos transfixed.
I'm not black and from continents away. But I'm from that generation too and I know what you mean. Music that our uncles and aunts listened to, and which reminds us now, all these years later, of those better times.
I’m 43 and still listening.. I close my eyes and get nostalgic and all in my feelings & wishing I could turn back time just for a day
i'm 46 so I know what you mean! Those were good times.

These Power Ballads are definitely NOT cheesy. They're beautiful, well-written and brilliantly performed timeless classics. Much better than the rubbish that passes for music these days.
YES
+senorsalazar You're right in everything, except for the not-cheesy part :)
You seem to imply that cheesy is an inherently bad thing?
+Alejandro Rojas Actually the word "cheesy" does have a negative connotation. I googled the word and this is what I got (the second meaning) - (informal) - "cheap, unpleasant or blatantly inauthentic." None of those adjectives can be applicable to these Power Ballads if one is a fan.

I'm going on 42, and this song is a big part of my childhood. It remains to this day one of my most favorite songs. And not just one of my favorites from the 80s, but a top favorite from the hundreds of songs that I love throughout the decades. Songs that give me a blissful, nostalgic, dé jà vu feeling & transport me to a time I can never return to, but come pretty close to taking me there, will always be treasured.
Also as a Neurodivergent person, this song is one of my favorites to sing when stimming
Isn’t it crazy that we, who were born in the 80s, are already getting into our forties? I don’t feel that different
I'll be 40 May 11, 1981! Me either. I still feel like I'm in my 20s
May 11, 1981 here. People told me I look like I am in my 20's, 😇
Yes, yes it is...I always think of the 80's as not being more than 20 years ago. Then I remember my age and the fact that I was born in the 80s...and all the fun goes away LOL.
Imagine how being born in 1941 feels - if you're lucky. You won't feel older than 30. That guy in the mirror is your grandpa, not you. High school friends dropping like flies, but we still love this music. 70s and 80s were gold.
Lived in the best years
I'm almost in tears by these comments. This era was full of light, I'm a young black woman, 37. I went to bed every night listening to soft rock and had some of the brightest memories. I had a lot of trials but home was warm. The 80's was aerobics, colors, L. A. Girls, Hearts across America movement, We are the World Anthem and camp stories to die for...the world today....💔😢
Never will be the same again.
Did you go looking for bad comments or something? Almost all the comments I'm seeing (recent) are pretty positive.
Yes! Me too! I'm 43 and listen to soft rock, alternative and pop. Those were the days.
41 and listen to mostly death metal these days, I still love Heart. The 80's were a great time to be around.
I miss the hair and spandex the most. Don't miss cassette tapes whatsoever!
Yeah... It was cheesy, but also a lot less angsty.
Thats all good and all but
What does you being black have to do with anything? No offense in advance

These 80s era Heart songs have this atmospheric fairy tale like feel. Dont know the specific instruments that produce this but all I can say is magical! I remember feeling this as a kid when they were on the radio
Your comment really launch my atention. fairy tale, I can say too about these memories. the 80s supermarkets, with the old electronics, the star wars, GIJOE and first Mylittlepony toys. the music in cassettes, the old candys or chocolat and waiting for a new Jim henson movie like Labyrinth in the high size theaters. and of course the first videogame halls. and the information not many satured.

It's called synth. Keyboards and electronic sounds is what made most the music we enjoyed in the 80's. I have been heavily influenced by these times, and it shows in my music.

Two amazing things related to this song: 1) Nancy was sick when she sang the initial vocal and they kept it because it sounded raw in a soulful way. 2) A 22 y/o super fan was allowed in the studio when the song was recorded as it was her dying wish that Heart honored. I love how her voice goes from subtle distortion in the chorus back to pure smoothness. Great performance.
Interesting fact about this song. Ann Wilson doesn't sing the lead vocal, her sister Nancy does. The story is Ann couldn't sing because she was suffering from a cold and her voice wasn't sounding good so Nancy sang lead instead.

What movie scenes are these from? I was born in the late 80’s. But these songs were still playing…! I grew up with these and older songs!
The 21st century children will NEVER understand the power of music like this
Born in 85 I’ve heard them since the womb. Anne and Nancy are Bliss❤❤❤ Anne holds rage and grace like nobody else and Nancy is THE most talented guitarist man OR woman
Am 65 yrs old now also i really like this song... My heart becomes young again as i hear this beautiful song...
Being a teenager in the 80's was an experience that will live with you forever man what a time to be young!!
I agree completely...
The era is over, if you experienced it, you're lucky. No 80's night will feel the exact same way that ear did. It might come close but it wont be legit. Those who experienced it tho, they kno, they know :,)
I couldn't have said it better myself!
Oh I know all right! I was there! But now I'm here, and it sucks my lily white ass.
Agreed!! I sure do miss the 80's and all the fun that went with those years!
Man I love Nancy singing. Everyone knows that Ann has this type of voice that could only be equaled by Grace Slick, but people forget that Nancy can sure sing too. Man, she's so good!
Damn right!
I hear ya! It was always that ABBA kinda syndrome: will it be Agnetha on lead vocal or Frida??
Same thing here. Ann or Nancy?
That tension of keeping us guessing was all part of what made it irresistible!
Nancy has more in common with Celine Dion vocally than she does any of the rockers you can name. Nancy may be a kickass guitarist, but vocally she reminds me of a songbird, yeah.
@@xuriostyle3543 She's not as good as Ann, by any stretch, but she's still really good. Celine similarities? Eh, not to me.
@@chrisPAT03 More like fills her shoes, she's a crooner not a rockstar. She sings THOSE kinda' songs, too. Kinda' epic, a little poppy, defo catchy af.
Wow. I totally forgot this song existed. But I knew every single word just before was sung, oddly like a recurring dream this song washed over me. Beautiful. Time to replay it another 7 or 8 times. I loved this song as a kid. Must be almost 20 years since I listened to it. Isn’t music powerful. Love Heart so much!
I'm 86 years old and there's something out there I can't resist.
Keep listening!!!
❤❤❤❤
Hope it's Jesus.❤
@@williamcampbell163It's definitely Jesus for me. God bless.
Who’s listening in 2024?

Only people with awesome taste in music would like Heart.
Michael Woods
But this is the only song I like.
Try Magic man =)
Guess someone like u
I heart Heart! :)
Like Me hahaha
The chorus is very pretty.
EyesOfFrozenMeat The verse is also gorgeous.
I hear the man perm is making its come back. Why not big hair? It wasnt so bad.
Kamsath Samreth If it comes back, there will need to be some adjustments. Clothing fashions have changed and many other things have changed since then.
holygroove2 oh yes definately. Im not a big fan of 80s fashion lol. I can deal with the hair and the makeup but shoulder pads kill me
I'm 38, I have a musical education. this is a very high quality and melodic composition! Bravo
The 80's will live forever. This song will be it's soundtrack for many. Simply magical and everlasting. 🌹
I wish they would play it The Goldbergs
1986 graduate 👍
Alot of people say the best music was already made. This is one of those. Now a days it's all garbage and demeaning to people. People woke etc have nothing on this music. It's all about hate now a days and not live.
Such A Beautiful, Dreamy Song by these Seattle Greats!!!
@@Mike-ye6xi Celebrating my 35th HS reunion this year. for my twenty fifth, we shared our reunion with the class of '86 as well as '87, 89 & 90. BEST REUNOIN EVER!!
Anyone else Rocking out to this In 2019?
Yep
You betcha :)
Remembering when I was a teen.
Yup
Absolutely...
What I love most about this amazing song is that Nancy is the lead.
Ann has the unmatched power and range, but Nancy is no slouch on lead vocals. Sweet and smooth, but also raspy at just the right times.
I always thought Ann was the lead singer on this, Today I learned it was Nancy.

Plus if u look up any interview with her, she has a beautiful personality to match. They are both insanely talented
What an absolute tune. The 80s were golden
This is the song that played as my cat was dying. Sweetest soul I’ve known. God bless you Pickles. I pray we’ll meet on the other side.
😥
Jeff Smith- RIP Pickles
My sincere condolences to Pickles. My first experience with this song was far less somber and yet somehow surreal; sitting on my front porch soaking in the beauty of the summer, while someone stopped at the intersection, and they were playing this song in a Honda Accord hatchback. And I've never since forgotten this song.
I totally understand your pain. We have lost a few pets, Doggies, already and it hurts so much. Never thought you could love them so much. Glad Pickles had a good life and was loved by you.
I know exactly how you feel. I remember when my first cat, Purrseus, died. That was some pretty strong anguish I felt. He made my whole family happy for 17 years, and it hurt to lose him.
This gives me an instant attack of nostalgia. I hate these times.
You got great taste 👌 👏

Summer nights on Brighton beech
That summer, I had decided to quit doing drugs, since I hadn't left the ghetto for California (after a college education) to end where I started. Living in Berkeley, after the most significant heartbreak of my life, I felt like life was over and I realized that the big problem in the relationship was our drug use. I decided to quit and have one last hurrah all by myself. With a 12 pack of beer and several joints, I drove to the top of the Berkeley Hills and looked over the Bay Area, playing a tape of this song on an endless loop. It reflected so much about my lost love, my life and the unbelievably extreme pain I felt over it. "Over and over, under a full moon, I drank and smoked, trying to burn my grief to the ground as this song played endlessly on. I have no memory of the trip down and I can only be amazed that I made it back without driving off the road. The month's withdrawal was horrible, of course, and I nearly died. If a friend of mine hadn't come to town to surprise me for my birthday ( thank God he had keys) found me comatose and brought me around, my story would have ended right there in my bed. It took months to get me back in shape. I won a scholarship to do my graduate work and left California forever. I have been clean and sober for 31 years now and I had never thought that the happiness that is mine today would have been possible. I couldn't even have imagined it; I didn't have the capacity. A part-time actor now, my coach and I worked on a monologue based on that night. I hadn't thought of this song until last night, the night before I was to perform the monologue for the camera. Remembering at last, I came to RUclips to find it. Well, " I live another life," and it is certainly an unexpectedly happy one I had never thought possible. Thanks, Heart, for your company that night and for writing the words that expressed what I couldn't.
Thank you so much; this was very sweet of you.. that was quite the night and I am still living with the benefits of the decision I made all those years ago.
Love to you.
Leonard
GOD bless You more :-)
Great Story. Would love to see this monologue on RUclips. I quit drinking 15 years ago and cannot believe how far I've come. I understand and empathize with your journey for I have walked a similar path.
Isn't it amazing? All the reasons we had for not quitting, when all the joy we needed was in learning to quit. It still boggles the mind all these years later.
Thank you....and much the same to you !
Streisand. Houston. Warwick.Flack. How lucky I was to have heard them all.
Pure 80's blissful perfection.
So glad I'm a 1971 baby and my teenage years were growing up listening to songs like this old but gold 🏅🏅🏅🏅👍
Same here 1971 💓💓💓💓
My dad was born in 1971 and grew up in the 80s... he kept telling me his past experiences from the 80s as a teen and especially 1986 his favorite year of the 80s as a 15 year old... because of bon jovi I guess and having a right to borrow his dad's car for him to hang out with friends, he made me listen to 80s songs like this...
Yeahhh...Old but Gold.
Im 2005 i was born in wrong era
72 baby here lol
You can’t beat old school!! Music today has nothing on old music.
I totally endorse your comment 💯💯💯
Old is gold.
As a 30 year old I couldn’t agree more ❤
Am 57 agree 100 percent 👌
True these songs are classics
Those were the good days. Music was something back then.
Can i have a show of hands if you're still listening to this in 2020
Yep the best
No doubt. 80s jams kick ass ! There's NOTHING else like them. They just touch you and inspire you.....
👍🤟🤚
Oh yeah

Such a beautiful and ethereal song. Long live 80's music.
I’m so glad I experienced the music of the 1980’s❤️
Bring back the 80's.
Such a better time for music and humanity.
I experienced too much of it.
We need the 80s back
Me too ☝️
If I could only hear this one song in my life, I would think that this world is perfect.
Yesssss dream sometimes,, it happened when you close your eyes especially when ur alone...
Hi I'm single how about you
FANTASIES
?
bencinurts (Enter Chris Hansen)......."So you like cookies I take it?"
Omg I can't xD
This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Sends chills down my spine.
Daniel...it certainly is. I cry every time I listen because of its poignant beauty and relevance to me...every second of the night I live another life.
Partly why this particular recording is beautiful was also due to the fact that Nancy Wilson was sick at the time of this recording. It added that extra gravelly and raspy quality for the emotional punch.
Daniel ward feel the same mate
Omg yesss agree
The music and women of the 80s rocked, so glad I got to experience all of this live. There’s never been another decade like it.
U dang sure said that rite! 80s rocked yo
Amen!
Unfortunately I was born in 81 didnt get to experience this in concert but definitely grew up listening to the 80s music as well as 70s
Their first of 2 songs to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 from early 1986
This song still brings me to tears when I listen to it. It’s so powerful
Me too it reminds me of special person who I loved so much it's in the past
