Greetings from Toronto. You did a great job of informing us to what's going on in Trinidad. This issue of Chinese colonialism seems have caught a lot of us off guard. Sadly, your culture is going to change in due time. It's interesting that the elected officials didn't properly consult with the citizens of the city prior to making these decisions. Do we hear the sound of money filling the back pockets of same elected officials to ram these changes through? But this would have to go through the federal government first would it not? Something is missing. But thank again for your investigative journalism. Take care. 👍

Interesting information about future development plans for the area. Not sure why there needs to be a distinct ethnic marketplace in a country that has always emphasized and celebrated the multiethnic heritage of the population. In cities where such spaces exist, they are nice tourist spots to visit, eat and shop, but Tdad already have those, so not sure if this is an attempt to gentrify the area as happens in so many areas of the world. It softens leads to the old buildings coming down, the poor unable to afford the rents in the new spaces, the price of goods and services going up, nice restaurants and professional services such as doctors and lawyers locating offices, and real estate agencies making a killing on the property transfers.
All manor developed nations have a chinatown, chinatown is a sign of a developed country. You need to shake off your backwards country boy mentality and embrace modernity

"The majority of the people we see here are local Trinidadian people" A euphemism for they are mainly afro-indian. Apparently the chinese are not considered local Trinidadians.
“Apparently the Chinese are not considered local Trinidadians” That would all depend on what their documents say. Either way, they are very hardworking, industrious people who contribute to the economy. The real potential issue is with the Chinese government. As they say “There is no such thing as a free lunch!”

I believe that every country on this planet should have sovereignty of self and sovereignty of State. Any development within the country should be done with the resources of the locals the Bible said plain and straight the rich rule over the poor and the borrower is a slave to the lender. Politics is a race to the bottom

Appreciate the research done and the cinematography 👍 But from experiencing first hand Chinatowns around the world (Los Angeles, Milan) Charlotte St. could never parallel those certifiable Chinatowns. At the end of the day POS/T&T is too small and they are trying to appropriate what is one of the landmark streets of the CBD. It may forever be as one of your interviewees christensened it "Creoletown"
Trinidad Government is selling out. Charlotte street will always be Charlotte street to me. Can I go to China, and rename a street in my name. Hell no.
Black Beauty Always FYI; the properties on Charlotte street are private properties, owned by the local Chinese community for many decades, they have the right to name or do whatever they want to their property. I am sure that you like Movie Town, do you? It is owned by a local chinie.
As a Chinese-Trinidadian, I found this video quite good and objective. The idea of a Chinatown in TT is so complicated. From a cultural and historical standpoint, I think a Chinatown makes sense. We have a long history of Chinese/-Trinidadians in our country while still continuing to have a flow of new Chinese immigrants. There seems to be a divide between Chinese-Trinidadians (3rd generation onwards) and new immigrants and the way Trinbagonians perceive them. I worry about the rejection of a Chinatown solely based on xenophobia and racism. On the other hand, from an economic standpoint, the govt and the mayor of POS really have to come through with all these promises they making. China is a neo-imperialistic power and the fear of them 'taking over' the globe is legitimate and terrifying. To be indebted to them for years is a genuine concern. We must be wary of foreign influence.
Thanks for your input and outlook as being a chinese Trini. As someone who once has a small business many years ago. I truly wish that the government had the desire to help the business year ago and not sellout to China. Question, would China allow Trinidad to go into their country and recreate a portion of their town and name it Trini town!
Chinese came to Trinidad in the close 20th century as indentured servants don't fool yourself to think you have the true struggles of blacks or natives indian don't fool yourself into thinking that the Chinese that come to your country from China have anything in common with you

Do you know who the chinese are, do you think theyre poverty striken people from sub Sahara africa, chinese are a major merchant race. Trinidad managing to have a china town is a big feat only developed and significant countries have chinatowns, see it as a badge of honour. The arches are a distinct feature in all chinatowns around the world without it itll be a fake chinatown. Trini is inthe same league as us,uk,canada, Australia, japan, south korea now. Do you think say a insignificant island like st vincent can manage to develop a chinatown
I don’t think this is a bad thing. Could it mean that China is willing to go all the way economically? But it does reveal the ones who sold Trinidad out too. But I believe Trinidad can benefit from China too. Beautiful accent. My daddy is Indie Trini and my mother is Philippino. So I like it! There’s beautiful style, and I think all the Trinis will like it! 😍

China produces almost every product imaginable, you produce nothing but that which you lay down in the toilet.
You are consumers, and that's why China is here, to sell you their cheaply made products and create employment for their people.
Trinidadians never owned anything, all its natural resources are owned and controlled by foreign powers, ie; British Petroleum and Amoco since 1856.
Here is some FREE education for you; The largest natural deposits of Oil and Gas in the world lay between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, potentially the richest countries in the world, but is among the poorest. "The wise shall live off the fools"
Q; If there is as they say "no more Oil in T&T" Why is BP"s biggest operation and Office is still located in Trinidad?
Q; How did Queen Beatrix get a cut in the market in T&T to setup her Shell gas station?
As a citizen of T&T, try to open a gas station business.
Understand this, my friend, you are all still slaves, the new chains are economic and policy, along with religion and bogus education designed to indoctrinate you into a foolish conformist.
To all the "Yes men" wear your face mask, wash your hands obey the Government, you are now back to kindergarten level again. They control you, and you have no freedom.

Take care. 👍
I am cautious about this project but some people are way to reactive when they legit don't know what is happening. Fear, I guess? Great video once again
Chiv,A fear of change
Love this content first off glad I found your channel, I think this China town thing is going to be very interesting to watch, the whole relationship between T&T and China makes me uneasy and as a resident of Tobago it also seems very one sided in which island “benefits” even though both islands will be affected if things go badly...interested to see how this will affect my generation to come
Great content, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It's quite refreshing to finally see a Trinidadian youtuber with content like this opposed to the typical accent tag and beach vlog videos. As a fellow youth it's really nice to see a young Trini person giving some to in sight to this topic from multiple perspective. Also the "nah I from diego no amigo" part had me weak Lmaooo
It's so interesting to see how relaxed the people of Trinidad are to welcoming a communist ruler
When the Chinese come T&T will look like this as shown in this 302 video playlist on the sights and sounds of China.

Thee manout govt borrowed USD 100 MILLION to build Napa and USD 50 MILLION to build Sapa. The last govt lead by kpb borrowed USD 150 MILLION to build the Couva hospital. With these 3 projects alone we the TAXPAYERS/ CITIZENS have to repay this via increased TAXES, and allow the Chinese govt to set up ports as they have in Sri Lanka that has fallen into their DEBT TRAP LOAN trap. Those ports may eventually turn into bases. Happy New year T&T aka CHINEEdad.

How much money did they received for this approval in their personal account
If this is going to help Trinidad’s economy and decreasing their debt with China then I say let it be.
Keep up with the information very informative. Thanks
there has always been a number of Chinese businesses on the street and if I remember correctly the Chinese association had a building there too, so it is no surprise that this could be done.
I agree, I honestly don't see why people are acting so surprised but as usual our beloved trinidadians love drama lol
@@shan-nialewis3873 ,I don't see the big deal about it ,because TnT is a diverse country and we should be highlighting other races as well.

Idt ppl fear change itself but more so fear they wont benefit or be left out/disadvantaged by the change. As a result of no true transparency in issues like these.
It’s interesting how Chinese is trading trinkets for a country real resources - human and land resources .
Europeans traded trinkets for the same things with then great African kingdoms then took them over when they weakened themselves to where they could not resist invasion

'D angry rasta' yes 😂😂😭
Keep up the good work bro, teach dem!... From Trinidad. 💯💯💯

Hey bro it's my second time watching you are awesome! I do like the idea reason Being that how the economy is at the moment.know business need to flow with one another to keep a consistency in which I think this here and many other project should be done because it should change the society to better their self because it's really needed with all these responsibilitie this island has already that's the good part tho bad part are we going to be able to pay it back who knows 🙏
Every travel site warns about going to Charlotte street. I remember going there as a kid. It looks like pretty normal shopping area. What's the big deal. You are getting free decorations lol.
Incremental steps...! It will sneak up on everyone AND it will expand!
... And we as a people "DID NOTHING" about it' SMFH
The angry Rasta at the beginning 😂. All your videos are always informative
When you rename a place after a specific population, shouldn't that areas population be of that majority? I haven't been to Trinidad in 28 yrs maybe I'm missing something... from Diego, too.
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome screenplay. And about the project, I like the idea. I suspect Chinatowns are not built overnight, it starts with a few businesses so we would have to wait 100 and more years to see vision in full.
totally agree!
Well I Buss Out Laughing 😂😭Wen He Called You Amigo !!!

We introduce the name China Town my future question is will the owners of these businesses be pressure by the Chinese Association to sell their properties to make the Chinese feel more in control of such area .
Also the placing up of those signs look so shady like a thief in the night how many business owners was aware of the erection of such furthermore agreed on such . I guess its one those cliché for the "Major Whatever i say goes "
this is just amazing. the lack of self confidence in our Caribbean people is just amazing. A 'China Town" as a well thought out, city development lol you got to hand it to the Chinese. They are better at praying on the vulnerable than the colonizing Europeans of old, they make you think it's your idea. Why oh Trinidad? Why? you were an oil rich nation! why? smh.

Chinatown but no Chinese Street vendors? And what's that about underground electrical power lines? This project will be completed in 15 years give or take

It was written on the wall for BELSHAZZAR and now it have been in the sky for TRINIDAD when the clouds did draw out the ISLAND OF TRINIDAD which was photograph in the ISLAND OF TOBAGO and publish on the front page of Express newspaper on TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 2OO4. the clouds look dark, does that mean TOBAGO will watch TRINIDAD BURN. Check it out.
Appreciate the research done and the cinematography 👍
But from experiencing first hand Chinatowns around the world (Los Angeles, Milan) Charlotte St. could never parallel those certifiable Chinatowns.
At the end of the day POS/T&T is too small and they are trying to appropriate what is one of the landmark streets of the CBD.
It may forever be as one of your interviewees christensened it "Creoletown"
Its still a major achievement for a small Carribbean nation. Chinatown only appears in developed and significant countries
Very informative
You did a great job..... keep doing good work like this.... 👍🏾💯 new subbie here....
Trinidad Government is selling out. Charlotte street will always be Charlotte street to me. Can I go to China, and rename a street in my name. Hell no.
Black Beauty Always
FYI; the properties on Charlotte street are private properties, owned by the local Chinese community for many decades, they have the right to name or do whatever they want to their property. I am sure that you like Movie Town, do you? It is owned by a local chinie.
U cant rename any street because ypu dont have the economic power to do so and the chinese do.🤷♀️
Just started to subscribing to your channel. Keep up the good work 👍👍😀
Your videos are amazing bro!!! uwu
That intro yes!
Chinese came to Trinidad in the close 20th century as indentured servants don't fool yourself to think you have the true struggles
of blacks or natives indian
don't fool yourself into thinking that the Chinese that come to your country from China have anything in common with you
