      These government leaders only putting the country into more debt. They can't find ways to make any thing work in Trinidad but letting people come and manage the same resources we have. From since I am small all they only could raise gas and oil, when they do this food goes up. Then they raise salary. A vicious cycle..

    China has been investing and trading in the Caribbean for hundreds of years. This is nothing new. The issue is that the U.S.A dose not like it. Chinese people have lived in and been apart of the Caribbean longer than many other nationalities that make up the Caribbean community.

    Great vid. China is very opportunistic in that when they see smaller states struggling and seek them out to offer them these huge loans at good rates in the hope that the countries cannot repay in order for them to seize and take control of parts of the countries infrastructure and it is very worrying .

    • @angelalumwai6164
      @angelalumwai6164 5 лет назад +12

      It's not good rates . The Chinese are calculating and shewed. They have already calculated that the rates (although better than most) would be impossible to honor . Therefore, they have already have a contract signed and ready to cease assets.

    People are running from America with the belief that these other super powers are more trustworthy. With countries like the us ppl are always on guard but asian countries have a very developed way of getting people to trust them. Maybe it's because they are not "aggresive" in their methods. Their culture and methods or at least those shown on tv are a people full of pride and virtue. but the truth is it may not be any less harmful. It's the lesser of two evils?

    The question becomes how to untangle the tentacles and take back what is ours? China will not give up the power and control they have. At what point do the people of T&T say we want our country and destiny back? Economic ties are important but should never be at the expense of losing the country because we are unable to repay our debt to a single lender. One more reason that the IMF & IDB must revamp their practices and terms. James - really look forward to the future installments!

      John Perkins who is the author of Confessions of an Economic hitman was warning us since before the Chinese came into the Caribbean he was warning us about the IMF Corprotocricy that poisoned smaller states with austerity measures and high interest rates for loans countries had to pay back for many years. Haiti for example has been paying back colonizers debt to France for hundreds of years. So let God now have his way with China. We welcome them for development sake.

    Let me just say this to everybody, just like after WW2 massive financial Aid in the form of [the Marshall Plan] was given to Countries like Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, Germany, England Italy etc. in favorable concessionary terms, now they are staunch Ally of the US and that's what they are afraid of, they are not really concern for the welfare of the Countries, for they are mostly black Countries, which have been badly left out of the World financial system [as seen with the WW2 beneficiaries] my advise is that Countries that's getting these beneficial loans from China must be careful not to take an amount they cannot re-pay, as a Jamaican, I'm happy to see what is happening to Trinidad, I know good leadership will not allow for any calamity.

    In the world as it is, it's very difficult for countries (small ones esp., but even large ones such as Canada) to be independent. Trinidad was a colony of Spain, then of Britain, since approx. mid-20th century a neo-colony of the US. IMO, esp. as we humans are facing what looks like being climate chaos, we need to work hard to achieve local food sovereignty.

The consequence is extended economic slavery with little optimism of any of these projects actually generating income rather than additional debt from maintenance and upkeep of facilities that as a whole are barely used.

    OK as well made as this was I must disagree with your assessment, yes T&T borrows money from China but we also borrow money from the IDB, the World Bank and the CAF development bank just to name a few. Chinese debt actually constitutes but a small percentage of our countries overall debt burden(I not sure where you got 50%). Both our nations have a strategic and longstanding business relationship and all this talk about 'Chinese debt traps' seem to be very fashionable these days but honestly it's a bit of a red herring. We have plenty more to fear from American based banks than Chinese ones quite frankly.

    This is cause for concern, I distinctly believe China has underlying motives for what they are doing. We can see it quite clear ,it's to take control of Countries resources once they cannot repay their loans. Mr.Prime Minister please ask God for divine wisdom when making these important decisions as this can negatively impact the Citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago. I am very much perturbed about this.

    I'm concerned about how Trinidad is going to repay the loan...oil and gas is on the decline as most countries are moving away from fossil fuel to cleaner fuel.

    China's Modern colonization Plan thru indebtedness of Countries most vounerable . The fact is that China is offering far more favourable economic support to these countries than the IMF is willing to provide .

    In TRINIDAD and TOBAGO, people are dying like flies and the economy is crashing to zero, people are being homeless, jobless, moneyless, and starving all because the Government is taking medical and health advice from people who have zero medical knowledge or experience, this is where we have to reach in 2021

    Trinidad already has major ports in Port of Spain and Point Lisas. Was the port in La Brea really necessary? Regardless, this is all part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

    Question...Why does Trinidad and Tobago need to take out these loans in the first place where we have enjoyed revenues from oil and gas for so many years? Oh that's right the money was stolen under various political administrations.
    So in a world where moving forward the world is changing and gonna be less and less dependent on oil we are taking on more and more debt....yea that sounds like something that makes perfect sense 👌🏾
