I was six years' old when Dr Eric Williams became Prime Minister. I remember when he came on TTT air in April 1970, to announce that the country was in lockdown, and rioting and looting was rampant. I was fifteen years' old at the time, and I was sent home sick from school, that morning. He stayed on air that afternoon, constantly giving updates. I read his book, CAPITALISM AND SLAVERY, as an adult. I admired his academic and political achievements. Some people liked him, and some didn't. Unfortunately that represents real life, no matter your status, no matter what century you are in. I am a minority race, and worked in the U.S. workplace in 20th and 21st centuries. Throughout five decades in the workplace, some people liked me, and others did not. Some tried to assassinate my character, but I bided my time, and watched them leave before I left the job. Dr Eric Williams persevered to the end.
I was in high school when Dr Eric Williams passed on…. I remembered clearly the day he passed. I had just reached to school in Arima Pro Queen St….. the news came on air an you could’ve felt the calmness in the atmosphere…. I wasn't alive during his time, but when I was younger I was so very fond of him, if only for the fact that he resembled my grandfather very much. As I grew older and learned about his role in our country and our region's history, I came to respect him highly. I don't think there will ever be another leader like him in our nation.
Eric Williams also experienced racialism while studying abroad ,this spurred him on even more to Carry on the reigns from the British Rule. Thank you Dr. Eric Williams for trying to keep us Independent with your MOTO ...BUY LOCAL.

Marx Mann I agree. But men like Williams gave birth to that rift. Using race and subjugating other ethnic minorities. The man even blamed East Indians for the West Indian federation splitting up. Williams was a blatant racist. Lavantille, Beetham and Sea Lots is his legacy. More than half of the prisons is his legacy. Trinidad and Tobago had its chance. We are no better than a failed state.
Get out of here with that STUPID talk he was a socialist democrat the worse of the worse He established a net income of 28million even today Trinidad is a broken country , there is more potholes and concrete drains 😆.

I always boast here in the USA that our twin Island nation have a very high literacy rate. Thank you sir. Also, to my Caribbean History teacher, Mr. Leroy Pit, Rest in Peace my dear teacher.
I’m so happy to have found this. I’ve been listening, and there needs to be an order. It could be no one in his counsel didn’t know what they were doing. And I’m going to be honest, because there were revolts, and I’m sure that it was bad ones. There needs to be a reconciliation and taming down in sense of order discipline, racial tolerances and pride. And since there were probably displacements in position there was a displacements in sense of belongings especially the unfavourables of the dark skinned ones. Which started jealousy and violence. And if anyone decides to be prime minister there needs to be a sense of equality. I find that positioning is important. And it takes a Solomon to rule. And I don’t believe that he should have fought colonialism. That would have eased the racial tensions. This is what I find in my sides of Trinidad.. and I’m sure that it was not only Trinidad, but the other British Virgin Islands. But that is just my input.

Dr. Williams career as an academic at Oxford prepared him for the world stage as a statesman, and, as a prime minister. Preparation is the key for success. I am quite sure that none would dare say that the numerous accolades and social changes he championed were not by accident. The video otherwise, is a great one. Thanks for sharing.
we should talk about how racist he was, making nasty comment towards people of Indian descent, calling Hindu schools "cow pens". You can research this. People need to stop glorify this man an call him out for what is he a racist. It was because of him and his racism towards Indian people, the UNC party was created.

At the end of the day, smart phone politicians will have a lot to say how the country could have been a lot better but have no clue the hurdles and nonsense you have to deal with between people in your party, opposition party, foreign countries. I dare them to go run for prime Minister and see what it's like. You an only please so many people and piss off others who want more and don't understand how difficult it is to please EVERYBODY.
2 And this sublime doctrine is unavoidable even for very minor sins, that is to say, involuntary or by mistake. For example, if someone asks you for some money and you give it to him without any question and he goes to play lottery, buy cigarettes, buy some alcoholic drink ... or if you murmur or sing a pagan song by mistake... you are guilty. If you associate, even for one second, with a person of these Catholic, Protestant, evangelical and Branhamist churches, including Islam and Judaism or those missions and ministries to pray, you are guilty, just like the one who consults a diviner or fetish priest. If you are somewhere without a Bible and there is a Louis Segond or Scofield or Thompson or King James version, you shall look on that as a trap of Satan. 3 You cannot use street words or expressions. And neither for a dead person nor for a party, or a wedding, for nothing… shall you enter any of these churches, their vigils or their prayer cells. If you sin slightly in words with someone you knew to be a mocker or a gossip, it is a sin similar to one who goes into the house of a prostitute. These are sins to which we must be confronted, for at the point where we are now, whoever indulges even once in masturbation, lies, fornication, politics, adultery, or who does not pay the tithes and offerings ... is for us a redoubtable enemy and the subject of our troubles, he is like a leper in the camp of Israel. 4 But know that if someone torments us like Achan or unworthily follows this Message, he is under the curse of 1 Corinthians 11:27-30. If you are sitting there with some sins and people are confessing around you and that does not tell you anything, know at least that you will be filled with demons and with curses. Know that you came into the house of God just to return from it cursed rather than being blessed. Beware because sin is not a second nature for the sons of God and God said to Moses: "Those who have tempted me ten times will not enter into the promised land." Every time you sit there with some unconfessed sins in your heart, this goes up before God in the Heaven. [Ed: The congregation says, “Amen!”]. [Kc.18v1] 5 Likewise, you cannot confess with a smile on your lips. And you must take off your suit jacket before you confess. The public confession must not be some preaching, a testimony, a settling of accounts or a justification, but the confession with regret. Also avoid details except if the congregation asks for them. If you have sinned against someone and he still speaks of it, even if it was prior to the baptism, confess it to him then before the congregation. You see?

@@bjunk5344 bro ,are you delusional? What are you taking about? Your basically saying its ok to thief millions of tax payers money and no one should care. This is why Trinidadian are suffering today because of people with your mentality. Y'all the reason trinidad and tobago is going down hill.
trinidad is only independent on paper. trinidad is still very much influenced by the british. if u become independent, you dont need the parent country for anything.
Intresting video. During his leadership very little was done in promoting he East Indian cultures. After his death and with the help of the Privy council in England, Sat Maharaj, Anand Ramlogan, Panday and many other strong East Indians leaders they were radio, and television programs with their own stations. More was done for blacks. The televisions programs of TTT was all about blacks with shows from USA , Jeffersons, Soul train, Good times, etc all catered for blacks. William would say Trinidad is a black country. Presently Chinese, Syrians, and new migrants from south America are very dominant in establishing themselves and calling it home. TTT will newer promote these cultures. Just blacks. The PNM under William promoted a douglaring of the main races. Mixes of blacks and indians. All commercials and shows always show black men with indian women and mix kids. Over and over since the 70s to today. Sat Maharaj and the Mohammed family have done more for the Indian culture and families than the PNM under William.
Racism is still alive and present today. Colourism is one of the deseases that has transcended time , and has just increased in virulence. A great man, why blame him for every adverse thing that happened? No one is perfect. He had enormous responsibility. I am certain,Not an easy task especially as we can clearly see, and donot have to look far, the mentality of some in Trinidad and Tobago, as seen in some of the comments above. Too bad the british has seemingly succeeded in dividing afro and indo west indians.
Explain divide? It’s always blacks complaining. Indians just want to keep to themselves. Deal with it. And of course there’s always the ugly and undesirable Indian women who you blacks can help yourselves to, we don’t want nor need them. The British didn’t succeed at anything. There’s a reason India is so much more advanced than the entirety of sub Saharan Africa.
Only dictators rule for twenty odd years. He changed electoral boundaries to ensure pnm victories. The architect of racial politics, from which Trinidad has never recovered.
Just because you don’t hear about crime and stuff other places don’t mean it don’t happen. If you saying we should have stayed under British rule that mean the whole world should be under their rule.well I’ll just speak for America and Trinidad...
Sean Lewis. I don't know how old you are, but my father said the same thing but if he were still alive he would have been past his 105th birthday. Anybody who did not have a fair complexion and so called good hair did not get a job in a bank or a private firm except they wee serving the tea or cleaning. High schools were limited. If your parents could not afford the few dollars for commercial school or second rated high schools like Osmond or Progressive, your education was nil. Getting into Convent and St. Marys was a No, no. if you were not white or fair skinned, you would have had to be a top scholar and your parents would have to have money to pay those fees and from the right class. A proper high school education was a priviledge. The blacks and very few indians got the government jobs. Everybody in a big position in any private company had to be white. That is what I saw as a child growing up. I remember when I saw the first brown person working in a bank in the early 60s on Frederick Street. There were two of them, a young man and young woman now out of school. I was one of the fortunate people to benefit the free education in one of the top high schools when Eric Williams brought in free education.. So if you prefer to see the British rule like my father did, we would still be treated the way people who live abroad are treated. They have to struggle with racial discrimination. It is sad that you prefer if the British was still ruling. Yes, black leaders have made a lot of mistakes because the British have structured the system to work how it is working today. Maybe in another 60 years things will change.
Unfortunately his vision for Trinidad & Tobago was shortsighted reason for that is. what he was expecting the oil / Gas & sugar factory to become. Our revenue & his determination to Govern T&T after becoming an independence nation was not long enough. Which have now put us where we are today.

I have no respect for Eric simply because he tried to belittle me by saying that I attending school in acow shed I view it as covert racism
The great Mr Williams attend oxford university in england.where the others attend in the back of the school.the most dunce
Greedy he was not He loved everyone .All creed and color find an equal place in Trinidad
[Kc.18v1]
5 Likewise, you cannot confess with a smile on your lips. You see?
The Grenadian born at sea enroute. HE said the leaders and followers shall go to hell, this was to Lionel during a PNM campaign. The Federation mashup no unitary State, or Little Eight , Leave the seven (7) Islands alone. They strive without the big ones.
You're not a team player
He said Massa day done . No more enslaving his peoples with COLONIALISM and Tourism.
I could remember when his daughter had to lend the country money. The real question is where did she get millions to lend the country.
Who cares? All that matters is the country get the assistance it needs.
Looking back just the last year to hear a former Trinidad prime minister say "sunlight will kill COVID" is just frightening. The world has gone insane.

@@bjunk5344 and this is why trinidad and tobago is going down hill because of people like yourself
@@michealbarkley9080 if you know so much fix it or shut the heck up. Every nation has someone like you. Quick to point out faults until they are given the mic and see it isn't all easy from their chair. Negotiating with the opposition or allies that align with your opposition to get you to make mistakes and hinder your efforts to do good at the expense of holding back the nation.
Go ahead genius. You've got all the answers. Go fix it and let's see how you get your tail handed to you.
@@bjunk5344 bro ,are you delusional? What are you taking about? Your basically saying its ok to thief millions of tax payers money and no one should care. This is why Trinidadian are suffering today because of people with your mentality. Y'all the reason trinidad and tobago is going down hill.

Buh eric williams looking like a INDIAN in dah picture😮
He loved us all
trinidad is only independent on paper. trinidad is still very much influenced by the british. if u become independent, you dont need the parent country for anything.
Lmao why is the german national hymn playing at 13:00
Its Not its a Lutheran hymn, the German anthem is based on it.
It’s a disgusting and nefarious plan against Indians.
what house did he live in
Do you love my mummy she is pretty cool
Reality is racist, deal with it.
Only dictators rule for twenty odd years. He changed electoral boundaries to ensure pnm victories.
The architect of racial politics, from which Trinidad has never recovered.
He was elected for every term he served.
As for right now what's going on in trinidad I still believe we should have stayed under British rule
This is sad
I agree
Racism are everywhere not just TNT.
His economic policy sucked though. Social democracy, free loans (call them donations) to friendly governments. That's how you become a poor country.
Unfortunately his vision for Trinidad & Tobago was shortsighted reason for that is. what he was expecting the oil / Gas & sugar factory to become. Our revenue & his determination to Govern T&T after becoming an independence nation was not long enough. Which have now put us where we are today.
You are shortsighted in your believe , be a student of history and you would state differently
