Trinindad's street food abounds with Indian names like sahina, aloo pie and baghani. Trinny's, as Trinidadians call themselves, are born nibblers. Eating on the street is a way of life, and at times it seems as though everyone is munching away on a snack or sipping from a coconut, or lined up awaiting the next tasty tidbit. Chef Debra Sardinha-Metivier gives us a crash course in Trinidadian street food 101.

I'm craving that Trini food! I left the Trinidad in 1973. Oh, I loved seeing the video. It makes me drool wish they had a place like this in Sacramento, California.

We need to have a course in Trinidad for foreigners - "How to eat a doubles" lol
Trinidadian food tastes good.
That is so true Trini's know how to season food. My mom use to season food so good.
That is locally renowned chef Debra Sardinha-Metivier. And she not trying to sound like a yankee, that is the way the woman does talk, she dealing with international people all the time. Gorsh man.
EPIC FAIL WITH SHE
She sounds very Trinidadian to me.
Thank you. Some Trinis are educated and eloquent. She speaks as Wendy Fitzwilliam would.
alieninthecaribbean correct
Sometime we take this "we doh catah" thing too far. You not going to lose your Trini authenticity by speaking proper English when dealing with people from other parts of the world. Sometimes you have to compromise and meet the world half-way in order to be understood and not be considered a ignorant person. Even Sprangalang tones it down (and he is an old Naps boy so he very eloquent) or explains the jargon when dealing with foreign people. Being understood is more important than, "keeping it real". If you not understood you don't COUNT, what you say doesn't COUNT.
They already looking at our dark skin and Caribbean nationality and assuming we uneducated, it's good to shock them with some Queen's English sometimes, which when we master it, plus add our little unique inflection and colorful turn of phrase is quite an impressive thing to hear. We speak it better than even the Americans or British do.
If anyone knows how to flavor food like a boss n make it tasty as hell, it's trinis :D
Shay Grey And we look good doing it to :D
Shanice cake
Shanice 🔥❤️🇹🇹
Hell Is Not Sweet Bro
Na Guyanese them people will make rock taste good
The Indian influence in the food is very distinct. Even the names like chana (chick pea) and baingan (egg plant) are so similar.
About half the population is Indian, descendants of indentured laborers
Wow you guys and we Indians have a lot in common.
They’re 30 to 40% Indian heritage
Similar yet very distinct differences
After marrying a trini woman I got fat...🤣🤣..I love the food...all of my American family and friends love my wife’s cooking
Ugh I just got back from Trinidad and I ate here it was amazing !!!
Beautiful how it's Indian influenced. Everything looks delicious!
I love being a dayum trini!!♥
WTZF, the cooked tarro leaf with ochroes is calalloo. Saheena is the tarro leaf steamed and rolled in split pea powder rolled and fried. This woman gives misinformation.
The leaf is also callaloo

Love the roti and potates classic
Debra is my cousin and she is the best chef I know.
Delicious
I want to try some doubles. My stepmother was Trini (rip) married to a Jamaican. I'm gonna ask my step-cousin to make me some.
Yummy!
my favourite place i miss here
but I know growin up the official breakfast is saltfish and fry bake, or baighan and roast bake, or even fry bake and tomato choka.
that may be then but the average trini now looks for anything fast and easy to handle so there is a variety of things which can be purchased like you said from roast bake, fry bake and sada with shark, saltfish, alloo, baighan and many other fillings to the doubles, alloo pies sahina ect. This is now what most person seek to purchase as street food but they are just the basics. There are a lot more trini street foods that can be added to the list. As we say here variety is the spice of life BTW we love love all the variety of old and new condiments which can vary from location to location.
Or fry aloo and roti
I just make some fry bake yesterday!
am not use to doubles, but i do know the alu pai etc, but why am i hungry now for these snacks, am so mouth watering
Look and they taste wonderful 😁😁😁😁😁😁🇬🇩🇹🇹

Does anyone know the name of that Indian song playing in the background at around 4:47? I've heard it before but never knew its name, it's probably the only Indian song I like that I've heard.
My oh my this tasting session is great me mouth is watering forgot. Yes.
I will pay a visit to the country soon.
The "callaloo" or the dasheen Bush?
These so-called food experts can't eat anything & they don't know anything about taste.
Yes man
Omg same as in Suriname .Only delicious food .Love it
R M because the Indians in Trinidad & Suriname hailed from Bihar & Uttar Pradesh in the 1800’s.
🙏 I'm from both surinam and Trinidad lol mom is trini and dad is suri...when it comes to Indian food my siblings and parents they become Indians lol I live in Trinidad when I go to surinam its all trini food and spices it take there and when I'm coming back it's all javaans food and spices lol

How dat doubles looking so sad?
The vendor stall where they got the doubles from (The Green Shed) isn't really known for their doubles. They seem to specialize more in saheena, baiganee, and aloo pie. Their doubles are far from their best dish.
Debe doubles is the worst....ntm really poor customer service....I don't buy anything there
Try the bake and shark best in de Caribbean
Export management company?
is this trindian food stalls?
Looks bomb I would eat that in 1 second.
mmmmmmmm sweet T&T
The real Bhaigini is with split peas flour over bhaigan ( aubergine). Not an aloo pie filled w bhaigan. There's a white truck n the middle of the Southern Main Road, Curepe on weekends. Their Saheena and Bhaigini are A+
Best spot in debe to eat the green shad
