Modric is the master of space, and while we all talk about his great inteligence, passing and outside of the boot passes, what I personally like the most about him is the willingness to defend (or to do anything that team sorely needs).
I saw him track back a player from oponnents box where he was the last man in 2 v 1, I saw him being the last man against effing Luis Suarez 1on1 in Classico. Funniest thing is that as a person of lesser physique he thrives in scrappy games like against Atletico where most elite footbllers can be pushed out by pressure he is the oasis of calm. He is one of the few that understand that football doesnt stop when you release the ball, he immediately moves into space to provide additional passing option.
Passing, vision, off the ball movement, grit, hard work, inteligence, heart of a lion, and all that in 1.72 m.
The most complete footballer I have ever witnessed . . .

Midfield consistency through the entire season or one single bicycle kick just because it looks beautiful? Think about it. Those kind of things are awarded with Puskas award and not the Golden Ball.

I just watched Modric run the show against my nation (Scotland) in the Euros. He did what I thought he would do but before the game I had hoped he would have a very bad day. Even though we're out of the Euros I can't help be impressed by Modric. I'm not the type of person who is over-awed by a footballer but Modric is in a class of one. My favourite pass that he makes is where he passes it past defenders who are running back and they are actually running back while looking at the ball to right past them and they can't stop it. He does this so often. I don't know how you can even begin to learn how to do that - he is gifted. If I met Modric I would beg him to sign for Celtic - he would be great. I would pay to watch him play. My hat's off to him even though he gubbed us out of the Euros!
Luka modric is one of best player in real m . When he is in pressure he plays short passes or in 1v1 he dribble that help the team to creat possession , and long passes help the team to creat attack this makes luka modric best player . (he is 10/10)

The most important part of his game is his ability to completely dismantle oppositions high pressure. That is what sets him apart from other midfielders. He is "the penicillin" for the oppositions pressing. Just watch the passes and dribbles he makes when opposition tries to apply a high pressure. His bursts of speed, dribbles, cheeky passes, man is just perfect. With him in the team, Real Madrid moves into attacking third, so much faster and easier, thus creating more chances per match.
When coaching Mancheste United, Sir Alex Ferguson said after the Tottenham game, I had to completely change the formation and the way we play because of him in their middle. That's how good he is, Ferguson saw that very early, lost him to Real Madrid.
They way he feints with his body to confuse defenders and make them go out of position is absolutely fantastic, it's such a pleasure to watch. I'll miss him so much when he retires, I don't think we'll see another player quite like him for a long time...

Biggest strength of Modric is his movement without the ball or his high IQ.He can create space while just dropping into free space and pull one or two defenders and allow huge space for his teammates.HE CAN DICTATE THE TEAMS TEMPO WITHOUT THE BALL.

I would say his better skill is the way he manages the ball against high pressure from the rival. When RM is trying to play from the deffence to the attack and the rival is very close and trying to steal the ball, he jus stays calm, dribbles a bit to find the space and passes the ball safely, sometimes forward or to the sides.
It's the kind of play you don't want anybody else doing but him, as a midfielder is very risky if he loses the ball that close to the RM defence, but he just doesn't. To other players the ball "burns" when there are 2 rivals coming fast to them to steal the ball, but he always knows how to manage that and give a good pass to a parter of his team that's not pressured.
Probably the most important player in RM the last seasons with Ronaldo.

messi doesnt play as heavy in the forward position as he was about 3 years ago.. he plays around the mid area to bring up the ball but comparing modric and messi i believe modric has more impact to their team..

Shevchenko said the same thing last summer too. One of the best midfielders ever for sure. Even more so now being one of the key pieces to a dynasty Madrid team. Makes quite a few interceptions, great passer, extremely composed under pressure, great dribbling, press resistant, helps out on defense quite a bit, can play box to box, attacking mid, blocks passing lanes and always provides himself as a passing option for teammates.

The only thing you can argue about Luka is that he does not have the longevity of these guys I mentioned but let me remind you that Luka is croatian and he had to go through years playing in Croatia and for that tin pot of a club tottenham to get finally to Real Madrid at the age of 26. Modrić has been the best central midfielder in the past 5 years, his impact on the Real Madrid side is impeccable, he has the trophy cabinet to back that up, Real Madrid fans (such as me adore him) , he's a vital player of probably the greatest Real Madrid side ever etc. I can go on.

You got this completely wrong!! Modric is not important coz of his passes. He is important because he can break the lines of opposition and drives the attack forward and distintegrates the defences. That's the most important aspect of his game.
