Modric is a genius. He was absolutely mesmerizing in his prime (around 2018), but he has not dropped below say 75% of his prime for the past 7-8 years or maybe more. That's so important for a team: consistency. He's 35 now and he's not allowing Fede Valverde to become a regular starter. Incredible. He still runs a lot, presses the opposition like crazy, puts in so much defensive work, makes runs for counters, and when he has the ball, you feel so safe. He has managed to maintain his fitness and reflexes at this age, we know about the other midfielders (who are supposedly better than Luka) and where they were at this age, and how they fared after they were past their prime. Some people just don't understand the concept of consistency, especially after a player has retired. They only remember the prime version of the player and use that to make comparisons.

He was what I like to call Box to box playmaker. Only Yaya Toure belongs in this catergory that they are best box to box players but their playmaking is so good that they are as good as any top playmakers. However, tactically Modric is even next level always providing extra man in defense whenever needed and his off the ball movement in midfield is insane.
Luka, Yaya and prime Zidane come to mind for me.

the thing that impressed me the most about him is that his defensive ability was world class..he was almost like casemiro and michael carrick in one..cutting out passes, intercepting passes, getting tackles in and tireless running just in front of the back four...yet at the same time he had finesse and obviously fantastic playmaking ability too...he is just an unbelievable player...
