I Ain't Afraid of No Ghosts!

  • The mere thought of ghosts can give us goose bumps sometimes, but there are still moments when we think ghost stories are just made up to scare us. Maybe it’s time for some real talk about things that go bump in the night, and other stirrings we suspect may be specters. Can souls continue to communicate with the living after they die? In this video, Fr. Mike gives a powerful reason for why he believes they can.

I saw a ghost of a young man at a Jesuit Retreat House. I was the last person to leave that Retreat center on a Sunday after a weekend retreat. I decided to visit the bookstore at the Retreat House after everyone else had left. I noticed a man behind the money till and his back was facing me. After about 5 minutes, I noticed he hadn't moved a muscle. I got a shiver down my spine. So I picked out the book I wanted, approached him and asked him if he was there to collect the money. He remained silent and still didn't move...like he didn't even know I was right next to him. At this time, I went to his side to see his face. I put the money in the till and walked out of the room...30 seconds later, I walked back into the room and he completely disappeared. But on the way out the second time, I picked up the Jesuit Quarterly magazine published by the Jesuits. When I got home, I told my wife what happened while looking over that magazine...then I saw that man's picture in the obituary section for deceased Jesuits. I was shocked, needless to say. Usually, Jesuit deceased are older men but the man I saw was very young, in his 30's. Apparently, he had died on the property at the Jesuit infirmary which is also located on that propertry. So I knew he was probably in Purgatory and wanted me to pray for him. This experience inspired me to pray St. Gertrude's prayer for souls in Purgatory on my Rosary...and I've maintained this practice over the past 20 years. So please pray for souls in Purgatory...they really need our prayers and will return the favor one day!!!

There is a problem in every religion, pastors steal money, make money, rape, and some priests do the same as well. It is not the church that is wrong, the Church will withstand everything as Jesus said, for He is the church; it is people who make mistakes, and we shouldn't judge the church for its sinners--afterall, the church is for sinners, WE are all sinners, that's why WE need the CHURCH.

It's so dumb when protestants say catholics aren't Christians.. catholics were the FIRST Christians! 'Catholic' is simply an adjective meaning 'universal' that the early Church came up with in 310 A.D. to recognize each other.

@boom chugaluga no repetitive prayers ha? So should we just ditch psalm 136?
Purgatory can be found in Malachi, 2nd Macabees (which you probably don't count as Scripture, but is a source for the Jewish beliefs) then 1st Corinthians 3, Revelation 21:27 or Luke 12.
So yeah, there is purgatory in the Bible. There doesn't have to be an exact term in the Bible. I guess you can't find words like the Trinity, hypostatic union, sola Scriptura, sola fidae (ok James 2:24 can count) or philosophical words like omnipotence, omnipresence, immutability, divine aseity and so on.

I believe that prayer is really powerful as well:
You know when you get that really eerie feeling that there is a presence behind you when you're alone late at night and it's as dark as can be? Not the kind when its generally dark and it makes you anxious, but the kind when you absolutely know something is behind you and you would bet almost anything on it? On rare occasions, I have. In response, I prayed the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel for Defense against Evil Spirits (on the occasions when whatever was there felt malicious) and the Prayer of St. Gertrude very devoutly (usually three times) that whoever is there may rest in peace and for their intentions. Afterwards, whatever it was seems to either leave or be at peace because the feeling of potent fear and unease always subsides.
On another occasion, it occurred to me to pray the prayer of St. Gertrude while visiting the cemetery where many of my family members are buried, for the intention of my deceased family/all others who were buried there. I encouraged my family to pray it too and immediately after we did, I felt as if I was surrounded by a crowd of onlookers and this overwhelming sense of gratitude. It was making me anxious until we left even though whoever they were seemed very happy. (I don't like being the centre of attention). I don't normally feel things like what I mentioned above but I remember them being so potent at the time.
I don't normally take the time to post here, but I figured if I shared some of the experiences I had, perhaps anyone reading this might be encouraged to pray the Prayer of St. Gertrude more often. It really is a powerful prayer. Though from what I've been reading about this topic, we should also have Masses said for them too as often as we can (because the Sacrifice of Jesus' Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity is infinitely better than any sacrifice we can offer for their sake).
      All the best,
      Kyle
tl;dr Pray the Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great for the Release of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. It's really powerful.

A few slightly spooky things happened like lights turning on and off, hearing footsteps on the stairs at night, things we thought were stable falling over in other rooms, etc. Most of us had heard this story of the sewing room and the candles going out, so we individually prayed for this soul during our trip and after we went back home. The next year we went back and stayed in the same place and no such occurrences happened. I'm hopeful that means that whoever it was made it from purgatory to heaven.

Cause they’re stuck in purgatory and they may not have anyone praying for them.

Thank you so much for this explanation! Recently the wife of my husband's coworker died suddenly in bed. She was a lovely person, but not practicing any religion. Soon my husband's coworker told my husband that the closets were rearranging. He considered it a comfort to know his wife was near. I began to pray for her soul. This also happened with a friend whose brother was suddenly killed in a motorcycle accident. I told her to tell her brother he was scaring his children, and to be at peace, they will take care of the kids. And I really started praying for him. The weird stuff stopped happening. I was worried my interpretation of events was wrong, but I am thankful to know that my instincts were correct.

You maybe on to something here Father Mike. I was working intensely on my computer one day when out of the blue an overwhelming warmth of love hovered over and around my shoulders and I heard, yes, I say heard my name called out by a dear old mentor and friend that I lost touch with 30 years back, the inflections of her voice which makes everyone unique were so clear coupled with a warmth of what I could only express as Love. I stopped what I was doing, typed her name and the first thing I found was her 3 year old obituary. I paused in humbled awe and sent my love to her, thanked her for her friendship, blessed her and said a prayer for her. She was one of those souls that I could never imagine in purgatory. She was an angel on earth, now she is with our Lord, that I am certain of. Great talk Father Mike!

Thank you so much for sharing this information ,I had a encounter with a ghost of a young lady whom I had never met but had watched a documentary on her disappearance and how they had found bodies of many women where this young lady disappeared I couldn't stop crying my heart was so broken and I could feel the pain of sadness for all these innocent victims it was very overwhelming. about 4 days later I had awoken up late in the night &I couldn't get the name of this young lady out of my head I decided to get some water in the kitchen and that's when I saw her I was not afraid rather more shocked I didn't move it was like when my eye's locked with hers I was frozen BUT NOT IN FEAR..I heard but I didn't see her mouth move help me pray for me.she was not transparent I saw that her clothing were wet water dripping down her face yet never hitting the floor.what seemed like an eternity was probably less than a minute ,I had a overwhelming feeling to look up at my kitchen windows I never moved my body only my eye's &that's when I knew she came with others I couldn't see them but I felt them &their pain when I looked back to the young lady she now was becoming transparent and walked through me I Felt this feeling Of Intense electricity throughout my body then a shock feeling in my heart and chest I became so afraid because I thought I was going to die not because of pain just this current of Electricity that hit me &I know that the other's That I had scented also shot through my body each time I felt this unbelievable electrical shock throughout my whole-body After the 1st young lady walked through me I felt for more electrical shocks shoot through me each time it happen there was a little space in between .finally I was able to run into my bedroom yelling for my boyfriend I could only get out his name &I clearly heard his name being said by other's it sounded so strange I was frightened. now my boyfriend and I are Catholic's I was going through a faith issue I wasn't feeling my faith like I had before the best way to explain it is the beautiful gift of spirituality it was just blank☹I didn't feel the beauty of it. I was so confused and a bit frightened that they would return I told my boyfriend I have to go to church which I hadn't been going to in some time if I don't go they will return. THE BEAUTY OF THIS STORY IS THIS I didn't go back to sleep and the sun came up around 3hrs or so it was December 8th which I hadn't known that this day was a very important holy day THE FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION .I prayed for the missing young lady (who's name I will keep to myself) &the victims who were found. 5dsys later I looked up the story &I couldn't believe what I was reading after 3 years of missing they found her body sadly but finally her family could lay her to rest .I KNOW THAT IT WAS OUR BLESSED MOTHER MARY &HER INTERCESSION THAT LEAD THE POLICE TO THAT AREA TO BE FOUND .. I understand the importance of prayer ESPECIALLY FOR THE SOUL'S IN PURGATORY, FOR THEY CANNOT PRAY FOR THEMSELVES BUT THEY CAN PRAY FOR OTHER'S. My faith is back to where it was I am so grateful to have the gift of faith it is a gift & should never be taken for granted.I became friends with all the victims family's I've never told them my Experience But I do tell them to keep your faith God is with you every step of the way and to continue to pray for all the victims &their families. GOD BLESS YOU all always ❤📿📿

      I believe you.
First off, I am Catholic. I too have experiences with ghosts. At home and workplace, we have clandestine hauntings. Only they are not harming me or family, not even little kids. They are mostly harmless and quiet, though they swing in action, whenever there are undesired intruders from outside. Intruders like unwanted spirits and criminals.
I have this one unseen spirit who constantly watches over me, yet he rarely speaks and never reveals his identity to me or to any of my family. (Edit, he never speaks, unless necessarily). He always remains invisible. This spirit is protective of me. He has previously saved my life over 20 times, probably hundreds more times without my knowing. He saved me not only from spiritual dangers, also from stalkers, rapists, murderers, etc. Also, he had responded to my many emergencies like few heart attacks, beain haemorrhages, fires, choking, etc.
To show my appreciation for his protection, I have a chair for him in my bedroom. Otherwise, he would pace up and down the floor. He tiptoes mostly. He stops when I am awake. I caught him few times, when I woke suddenly. He hates being detected.
If you ask me, all ghosts value nice prayers, not exorcism. I believe that exorcism should be reserved for only the truly evil entities and demons. If spirits are harmless, don't seek exorcism for them.

Lonely Berg it is probably my guardian angel or my deceased relation. I do not know, as he is a very mysterious and elusive spirit who loves his anonymity.
I first discovered him in 1990s when he defended me from a demonic attack. He came in response to my prayer to God for a deliverance from a demonic attack. At first, I was petrified of him, just because he was an unseen ghost whom I could not see and I therefore misunderstood him. It took me few years to acclimatise to his presence and realise him as my guardian. I call him Ghost, since I don't know his name. Yet, he allows me to call him that, as he has his reasons.

Fr. Mike, I've had a few "manifestations" from the souls in purgatory -- like you've described. Thank you for making this video. I always try to urge people to pray the "prayer of Saint Gertrude" for the holy souls in purgatory...... Because one day 'we' will be lying in that grave and begging people to pray for us. It's not only our duty, but also our privilege to help out our brothers and sisters enter heaven.

Thank you for this Fr. Mike. The Lord gave us "rules", a manual for a happy life, to protect us from harm, not to control. Attempts to communicate with the dead are extremely dangerous to our mental and spiritual health, and that's why we are forbidden. We have no way to know who is speaking, and servants of the Father of Lies...will lie. And then entrap and then destroy. I pray for all my dead relatives, but would never attempt to talk to them. Something could pose as my mother, and do me terrible harm, if I got hooked in.

  • @ElvenWisdom
    @ElvenWisdom 6 лет назад +2

Necromancy is indeed a big "no no" in Lord of the Rings too. So forbidden that the Elves locked up the necromancer for all eternity, but he came back as Sauron in the third age.
But the other point of praying for those who visit you shows a true interconnection that your prayer can affect another soul and penetrate so much that it changes their own reality in death.

I prayed for the holy souls in purgatory at this cemetery and I sprinkled holy water as many graves as I could.
Then one evening I had a dream that many souls of different eras and generations were marching out of the cemetery.
Weeks later, they discovered that the cemetery did unquestionable practices by putting bones in drawers and leaving them there, and pulling coffins of the previously deceased and putting in new coffins of the deceased. It was in the newspapers.

Praying a rosary kneeling in front of the most blessed Sacrament for the soul of a recently deceased (must be within the same week) is the most solid thing you can do for the spirit of that person. As the father in the video just explained, since the person is no longer alive and doesn't have access to the Sacraments, you can do a sacramental on their behalf and it works just as if the dead person was praying the rosary himself and in front of Jesus. Now is that some incredible Mercy or what? Our Lord designed His Church for dispensing Mercy in so many awesome ways. Our Lord is indeed Awesome !

They cannot pray for themselves in Purgatory and must rely on us, the living, to pray for them. St. Faustina, Padre Pio and St. Gemma Galgani had souls visit them requesting prayers and I'm sure there are many other saints who experienced the same thing.

Father, there are also souls who are from heaven who come mainly to their spouses within a few days after death to show them they are joyful and youthful. Spouses who took care of the I'll spouse have been especially blessed by this or a voice, a smell etc.
My understanding is the Church does recognize this so called "ghostly" apparition of loved ones and calls them visitations.
Those who come from heaven are seen in their indescribable joy.

That story you told was amazing! I will definitely be praying for the poor souls in purgatory more often now! They're trying so hard to reach out to us for help, but we're just not listening! We need to help these souls so that someday they can join our Father in Heaven and find peace! Obviously I would never ever try to communicate with them, 'cause the Bible says that's wrong, but we can still pray that God will someday grant them peace

Hi, Father Mike! Thank you for making this video. As a child and then as an adolescent, I had a number of unnerving, unexplained experiences, and I was never sure why. After I had one very vivid experience with a shadowy figure, it caused me to contemplate the spiritual reality of creation and how my other experiences may have been connected. This eventually lead me to the Catholic church.
Some of my experiences seemed to be darker in nature while others did not, but I made the decision as an adolescent to research a paranormal investigative group for a project in order to find some answers. I eventually joined this group, which also consults with an Orthodox priest. The group prides itself on using the scientific method and making the investigations double-blind in order to collect less biased information. Our main goal is to help those struggling with this scary and confusing experience. As a Catholic, I feel called to pray for both the families/individuals and the souls.
One question I have, however, is what is defined as "necromancy." I always took it to be using witchcraft to communicate with or summon spirits. My group definitely does not approve of this. However, if a paranormal group were communicating with an entity already present in order to investigate it's existence and motives, or to let it know that it is scaring the homeowners, then would that still be necromancy? I understand that there are still a lot of risks involved in this even if it is not classified as "necromancy."

Shortly after that I felt an very angry and threatening presence, spirit, when I'd be in the shower. It got to where I'd pray to St. Michael and my guardian angel to protect me from him. Other strange things started happening as well. A neighbor told me about 4 years ago that this man, who is now deceased, would tell the neighbors that his wife....who had passed away....would visit him often. I had a traditional Roman Catholic priest bless our apartment a few years ago. So recently I sat in the living room and talked to this ghost/spirit and told him I think he was the man who lived in our apartment before us. I explained to him that I had a priest come in and bless the apartment and his wife may have moved on. I also told the ghost/spirit a little about me and my husband. Things have calmed down a great deal and i dont feel as threatened when I'm in the shower.

So vividly only way I can describe it is that it like watching TV in my head. Why is the Lord allowing demons to harass and attack me ? They do it wile I sleep. They pull me out of a normal dream but I am still sleeping. Two nights ago I was told by an advisory that one my own size is coming. I have had peace All winter and now it looks like it will start up again with one that’s stronger I guess.i know your going to say pray and yes I get it do you have any prayers that are powerful but simple to memorize? So that when these goons come around I can at least defend myself a little easier?Sometimes it is a horrific struggle to wake up wile they try to do what ever they are trying to do. Even though it can be terrifying at times I thank the Lord for the gift. Can you please pray for me Father and all my brothers and sisters? I really really need some help I can not do this alone. Your prayers for me will be very helpful.pray for all the weapons that I need and plus some back up lots of back up . If you read this and pray for me push the like comments button so that I know . It will give me more confidence knowing I am not alone with this. Please I need all of your prayers and you too please Father Mike. God be with you all. I don't have the answer for you but here are a few ideas ...
      - Go to see an exorcist priest. They are the experts on those matters. I strongly advice you that more that anything.
      - There is prayer of "liberation". I remember one that last for 30 days or so (every day is a different reading). Maybe try to find such a book,
      - the rosary is THE tool for fighting demons. Devil will never wins with Mary's protection. If this happens during your sleep, get in the habit of praying the rosary every night. Even sleep with a bless rosary if that's not too unconfortable.
      - Get holy water and sign yourself with it before sleeping (why not before starting your prayer?), asking God His spirit such as you are delivered from evils and that you entirely trust Him to help you fight.
      - Find one or two prayers to remember - We call them "oraison jaculatoire" in french (I don' know the translation, sorry): this is basically one sentence-prayer like "My Lord, save me!"
      God bless

and, if you can, receive the holy communion as much as you can ! Having Jesus in you is such a blessing. Even daily if you can ! I would think this is the most powerful help you can get...
+ You may be asking the Viring Mary and other saint to pray for you while during your sleep these things happens such as they can intercede and ask the holy spirit to support to.
Maybe these struggles will get you closer to God and will help you to give yourself entirely to Him. As you say, you can't do it alone but God can everything. In His mercy, He has given many thing through his church to help us receiving his grace so please use them.

I dreamt she was with my deceased Mother in what looked like a wedding reception hall with the big round banquet tables. My Sister was still alive, dying at the time of the dream.
She died aprox 2 weeks later, "Wait For It:" On My Mother's Wedding Anniversary.
Another dream one night I dreamt I was riding passenger in a car and St Michael The Archangel was driving. I knew it was him. He's so beautiful!
We were driving down 8th St in NYC's Greenwich Village. He pointed to a multi million dollar apartment complex and asked me, "would you like to live there." I said "no." Way overpriced imo and if I had that much money wouldn't waste it.
He smiled. Guess I had the right, answer.
This is just 2 examples. I've been dreaming for over 40 years. Am now 70 and seem to be getting more sensitive as I get older. One foot in this world and one in the other.

The banquet table was probably the Messianic banquet table. I have had dreams of it also, before I knew it was referred to in the Bible.

I have met souls of the deceased. First time I was 19 and in a wilderness area to climb frozen waterfalls. That first night at camp three souls came by and awoke both my climbing partner and I. Their aircraft had crashed ten days before in another lake basin. They needed our help to get found and have the bodies recovered. I have had five other times when I knew I was in the presence of an earth bound soul that had not found their way home yet. I have been raised Catholic, consider myself Catholic, believe strongly in GOD, but for the life of me I cannot understand why some think touching the void as it were is such a sin. I never asked anyone to contact me. But I am sure glad they did. I know for a fact that the soul continues. I have met those souls while they were still transitioning. I also had the direct hand of an angel saving my life.

That was really really cool. I get too focussed on the beauty of the material world and tend to discount the spiritual, supernatural side of everything. This reminds me to keep the right amount of faith in miracles and unusual happenings. Our faith is all about the meeting the two in Christ after all.

+Eleven Oeight obviously your not Catholic, but what he states in this video is completely true because of personal experience, and everything In life has to have explanation. the Catholic faith brings truth to all that's why being a true Catholic is one of the hardest thing you can be. and I call him father because he teaches the word of God like I call my paternal father, father because he teaches me about life.

    • @heido90
      @heido90 8 лет назад +3

+Eleven Oeight Check out these verses too: 1 Cor 4:14 "I am writing this not to shame you but to admonish you as my beloved children. 1 John 2:12-15 There John says he is writing to "you, children"and "you, fathers" Verse 14: "I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning." Acts 7:2 "And [Stephen] replied, "My brothers and fathers, listen..." The apostles and the disciples they taught and the early Church still called people "father" even those that weren't their biological fathers. The apostles were there when Jesus said, "Call no man father" but clearly Jesus did not mean for them to take that literally because they kept on calling earthly men "father" and Jesus would have corrected them on that point at some point during His ministry on earth or during the 40 days after his resurrection and before His ascension into heaven. The Apostles and the Church calls its leaders and those who teach us father because they teach us the word of God and about the spiritual life. Jesus was driving home the point that we all have one Father: God and He is the one that we should strive to do all things for, but we don't take his statement literally.

And what do you call the person standing at the head of the classroom? What do you call one who trains another in discipline? Why is it OK for Saint Paul to call himself a spiritual "father"? You may want to consider reading the whole passage and not just cherry picking to fit your limited understanding, blind guide!
As for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one master, the Messiah. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You lock the kingdom of heaven before human beings. You do not enter yourselves, nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You traverse sea and land to make one convert, and when that happens you make him a child of Gehenna twice as much as yourselves. “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If one swears by the temple, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gold of the temple, one is obligated.’ Blind fools, which is greater, the gold, or the temple that made the gold sacred? And you say, ‘If one swears by the altar, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gift on the altar, one is obligated.’ You blind ones, which is greater, the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? One who swears by the altar swears by it and all that is upon it; one who swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it; one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who is seated on it. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. [But] these you should have done, without neglecting the others. Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel! l “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You cleanse the outside of cup and dish, but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth. Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,* you hypocrites. You build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the memorials of the righteous, and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’ Thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets; now fill up what your ancestors measured out!
You serpents, you brood of vipers, how can you flee from the judgment of Gehenna? Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and pursue from town to town, so that there may come upon you all the righteous blood shed upon earth, from the righteous blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. Amen, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

My mom who died in 2002 communicates with me all the time. She watches over me. She always warns me about people places and things to stay away from. She's a positive influence. I've also felt my grandfather a few times as well. If a family member who passed is looking out for you why is it a bad thing to listen to their guidance?

Because the demonic are predernatural and have been watching humanity from the day of our creation.
They know your actions and inactions as well as all your deceased family members.
Which, makes them completely capable of imitating your deceased relatives.
Makes sense now, 1 John 4?
"4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God...."
