It doesn't matter how much you love someone, how hard you try to keep your vows, if that person does not love you or keep their vows, your marriage will not work. Learned that the hard way. Love cannot change a person who does not want to love or be with you.

Pretty spot on. I've been with my girlfriend for nearly 4 years now (We're both 20). Perhaps we started dating too young, but because of that, she's the only girl I've ever dated. We're a great match. We bicker and argue, but we handle those rare moments so well. And we share all of the same values.
My step-dad asked me the other day how I could possibly know if she was the right girl if I've never been with anybody else. But how many girls do I need to date to figure that out? Two... five... forty seven...? Yeah, she's not perfect and neither am I, but it works well and there's no reason to quit

I do agree that no person here on earth can fully satisfy our hearts because only Jesus can complete us. But I do feel that God made someone special for us (if marriage is our calling). I feel that He knows who "the one" is for us and we don't have to worry about searching for that person because God will place that person in our lives.

I agree with you, in a sense. My understanding is that God, being omnipotent, already knows who you are going to choose. The more in alignment you are with His will, the more that one is going to look like "The One," of course. But ultimately, marriage is a sacrament. In marriage, two people say I Do and God says "I Do, too." He equips the couple with the graces necessary to live in holiness, no matter how apparently right for each other they seem. So it's both-and. You have free will to choose whoever you want to marry, and God knows that choice and works with you towards your sanctification.

My parents always said that “the one” is that person who is going to help you get to heaven, and the one you want to get to heaven. There can be more than one person who you want to help get to heaven, but at the end of the day, there is someone special in your life who becomes that “above all else” :)

I found my Soul Mate and am married to him for fourteen years! How did I know he's my soulmate? Because we met by chance through my poetry club online. We became penpals and began to send each other gifts. The strange bit is that he lived in England at the time and I lived in NJ. It's strange because I sensed something wonderful will come out of this friendship. It was as if God whispered to me that this would lead to something wonderful. And it did. He came to meet my parents and me during Christmas 2002. My parents loved him. We shared the same values and taste in music. The following year he proposed to me and two more years after that we got married. We got married in the Catholic Church with God's blessings and our parents' blessing. I'm a Catholic born and raised. He' from the Anglican Church. Next year we will have been married for fourteen years. He truly is my best friend. We've gone through so much together; death of family members and hard times and we're still together. He has helped me grow so much as a person and he has his own independent hobbies, too. He doesn't define me as a person. I know I am responsible for my own happiness. But I'm so glad God put us together in each other's path.

I like one thing I read a long time ago: "We fall in love with a persons imperfections" and I believe that so much. I'm not married, but last time I fell in love I constantly focused on the imperfections of the woman I fell in love with. Her crooked smile, how she was pigeon toed and had a kind of hunch back and how she would sometimes mock my accent. It sounds insane but wow, just thinking of that now gets me teary eyed. It's soul, it really is. Those imperfections are not imperfections but paths to seeing soul. Unique attributes, a comedic path that somehow show infinite beauty.

I married very young and too quickly, we were totally unsuited and it ended in divorce after 12 yrs. I still have affection for him because he’s the father of my children.
My second marriage lasted 25 years and ended when my husband sadly died.
I’m now married to Mike and we’re very happy. What I’m trying to say is that you learn. You just need to concentrate on making just one person happy to the best of your ability. I’ve been happy with all three of mine. Ok the first didn’t work but we’re still friends and there’s no animosity between us. You’re right Father Mike, and you need to be extremely fortunate (and I know many couples) to live your entire life with one special person.
Just make that one person happy. Everyday.

  • @UnratedAwesomeness

Love is love. It's the willingness to sacrifice for someone for their wellbeing or happiness. You can love your wife enough to give your life for her, your girlfriend enough to sacrifice going to a party to help her through a tough time, a friend enough to give her your food when she forgot her lunch, or a stranger enough to give her your jacket when it's cold outside. It's all the same. And it doesn't matter if you've never had a girlfriend or boyfriend before, once you know how to love, the trick is just to find someone you're compatible with. Someone who you want on your team in a time of crisis. But most importantly, someone who inspires you. Who makes you want to be a better person. Who you will, together, grow and become better people. That's some of the most important advice I've ever learned about relationships. Know that much, and the man or woman God is trying to point you towards will become clear as day.

  • @rvz77

At last someone says it. The Lord is THE ONE. I have 7 decades of experience and I promise, this is what I learned over those years. We all instinctively seek The One, who will love us for eternity, until the end of time, until the stars fall from the sky, and the mountains fall into the seas. It's in all the songs, all the poetry, We deeply long for that eternal love. But no mortal human can make that promise, only the Lord. But, He made us like that. Thank you Father. I hope young people are listening, because it will save them a world of tears.

I saw this once and it made sense. Some months later, I'm back and it made me cry. It's so true. We think that we found "the one", until it becomes complicated and we have to choose wether or not to fight for it. On the other hand, we have our actual one. THE ONE we should commit our life to; THE ONE we should live and breath for; THE ONE whose love is unconditional and that's where everything make sense. Yes, maybe we will find a person who will ride along with us in this adventure called life, who will help us grow and who will help us become our best version, but I believe that THE ONE is already by our side.

Garrett Stephens a big problem today is that too many people are not merely uncompatible with us as people. They are unsuitable for relationships in general. Finding "the one" may be misguided and lead us to being overly picky, but when youre living in a dark world, even the unpicky can't find anyone because everyone is evil. Its possible we can try to convert someone, (maybe our love for them is God's way of bringing them to our light) but this is a gamble.

Amazing Story. I woke up one morning feeling a heavy burden to do a Catholic website. I felt called to do it for years, but this particular morning I knew I was supposed to do something about it. I called GODADDY to see what type of website name I could find. I typed in ROMAN CATHOLICISM. I couldn’t believe it. It was available! However, it was $5000. I didn’t have $5000. So I went to the Lord in prayer. Two days later GODADDY called back and said it was $3880. I still didn’t have that much. I went back to the Lord again in prayer. They called again and dropped the price to $3500. I was shocked. However, I still didn’t have the money. That Friday night I stayed up praying about it. It was about 11:30 at night. God put a person’s name on my heart that may pay for the site. I started praying for the person. Then I thought to myself. Well, I’ll just write them and tell them about what I planned on doing. I felt that if I explained it, they may give the money to us. I sat to type the email and I heard God say STOP. I felt like He just wanted me to pray over this person. I shut my computer and surrendered it to the Lord. Less than 3 minutes later this person sent me a random email (without knowing of the need or the website) and said, “God told me to send you some money.”. Guess how much money? You guessed it… $3500. This all happened at 11:30 at night. The person who sent the money is 79 years old. How many 79 year old people do you know that send emails at 11:30 at night. … That’s not all. This is the 2nd time something like this has happened. I listened to a CD series on Roman Catholicism about 10 years ago. It was actually a two CD set. I felt called to send this 2 CD set to 1000 Catholic families. Problem is, I needed $2700 to copy the CD’s, pack them, and mail them, and I also needed 1000 catholic addresses. Within a week I got a random check in the mail for $2700 and was also able to get 1000 Catholic addresses within a couple days. …. It’s obvious God wants people to hear this information. Here is the website www.romancatholicism.com. So, what’s my story. I grew up Catholic. I went to Catholic school from 2nd grade to 12th grade. I gave my life to the Lord the summer before my senior year in High School. All I knew was Catholicism, so I went to Catholic seminary with the thoughts of being a priest. I had been studying the Bible for over a year. My first year of seminary was very challenging. I felt very uncomfortable, but didn’t know why. I started studying the Bible and struggled with a few Catholic doctrines. I left Catholic seminary and went to Indiana University, but kept going to a Catholic church. I then graduated and thought about going back and becoming a deacon. I called the person in charge and told them I was excited about studying the Bible. They said… “Sorry, we are not studying the Bible, only Catechism of the Catholic Church.”. I knew something was wrong, but didn’t know what it was. Then I prayed for God to help me understand stuff I was struggling with. Within the next year I was overwhelmed with information people would randomly send me about Catholicism. I was shocked and hurt. I never knew the true history of the church. I only studied it from a Catholic perspective. When I looked beyond what I was taught, I discovered some major truths. I realized why all these things I was reading in the Bible completely contradicted my Catholic theology. … Well, I left Catholicism and never went back. I’ve never been happier. The freedom of knowing the truth was hard to accept at first, but so freeing. I challenge anyone reading this to dig deeper. It’s OK to look outside of what you are taught. My first suggestion is to start by praying. Not some wordy religious prayer, but an honest prayer to God asking Him to reveal the truth to you. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to the truth of scripture. He wants to speak to you........ Also study Revelation 17 and 18. It's 100% proof that Roman Catholicism is THE WOMAN WHO RIDES THE BEAST. There is no other way that any other organization can statistically meet all the criteria. Please, please, pray about this and watch this video ruclips.net/video/oUFhGQ4Do9s/видео.html
Please people. Study history from around 70ad to 300ad. Starting around 300 ad Rome took control of the church and adopted many of the pagan practices. They converted pagan temples to christian churches, they forced pagan priest to be Christian priest, they took the pagan traditions of the time and made them Christian. Think about it. Look at the origin of SUNDAY, CHRISTMAS, EASTER, HALLOWEEN. All the traditions around those things are direct pagan traditions. Get out of the Roman Catholic Church. It’s system mixed with paganism, false doctrine, and man made traditions. Visit www.romancatholicism.com You will also learn that Roman Catholicism is THE WOMAN WHO RIDES THE BEAST in Revelation 17 and 18.
Folks, this guy is really persuasive. He does a very good job of communicating life lessons, but his theology is way off. Notice how over and over again how he will say "scripture says" then refute scripture. He he rationalizes the scripture away from truth and you don't even notice. For example; The Bible says we shouldn't call Priest father. Jesus is talking about spiritual leaders. We can obviously call our Father, Father, but we are not to call spiritual leaders "FATHER... Anyway, He will say, "The Bible says this" and then twist scripture to fit catholic theology. I've heard him do this with Purgatory, Indulgences, Mary being sinless, celibacy of priesthood, purgatory, etc.. All these doctrines (and many others) are completely contradictory to scripture. However, he will twist scripture to fit Catholic agenda. It's so sly that you don't realize what's happening This guy is really good from a worldly perspective, but very dangerous from a Biblical perspective. The Bible said this would happen.
My encouragement for you is to study Revelation 2 and 3. Jesus gave John a vision for 7 literal churches. There were many more churches that existed during this time. However, God called John to specifically write to these churches. What's amazing about this study is that there is also a historical application. These 7 churches represent church history from the time of Christ resurrection to his second coming. God was kind enough to lay out the history of the church in advance. For example. Ephesus is the period of time from 30ad-70ad, Smyrna is the period of time between 70ad to 300 ad. Pergamus starts in 313 ad with the blending of paganism and Christianity. It's the start of Roman Catholicism. Please study this. Don't be lead astray. When you study history you will find Roman Catholicism is nothing more than pagan customs adopted by the church. Please pray and ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom on this.
I was amazed at how much freedom there was outside Roman Catholicism. Freedom to have a personal relationship with God. You don't have all these rules and regulations about how to get to God.
This is awesome. In the Old Testament a priest had to enter into the Most Holy of Holies once a year on the day of atonement to make atonement for the sins of the people. He was only allowed to do so once a year. To enter from the Holy of Holies to the Most Holy of HOlies there was a curtain separating the two. The curtain was 60 feet tall, 30 feet wide, and 3 inches thick. When a priest would go beyond the Holy of Holies to the most holy of Holies he had to go through all these cleansing rituals. If he entered the Most Holy of Holies without going through this ritual he would die. Anyway, when Jesus died on the cross the curtain that separated the Most Holy of Holies from the Holy of Holies was torn in two from top to bottom. What does that mean? When Jesus died on the cross He gave us free access to God. We no longer need a priest or a mediator. That's why over and over Jesus says things like... "There is one mediator between God and man. That man, Christ Jesus." or "12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12. Read the book of Hebrews. It talks about how there is no longer a need for a priest. WE CAN HAVE FREE ACCESS TO GOD because of Jesus work on the cross. This is beyond amazing! You don't need a priest, or a religious institution.

Thank you Father for this. Looking for The One is not my dilema but a major decision of migrating to another country. I kept on praying, researching, asking, and over analyzing pros & cons to the point of already having anxiety & almost not making a decision anymore.. The thing is, we’ll never know if we don’t try. Thank you for reminding me that God has given us free will. Eventually not all questions will be answered at the start & it’s also possible that God will not give you the answer at all. God will not say “go here instead & not there”.. But he gave us the freedom to choose, hope for the best & make it work.
Anyway, I’m sure you made so many girls cry Father, when you decided to become a priest instead.. 😅✌️

Ok. Find your meaning. Find it. Work at it, work hard. When you look up, you'll find someone looking for his\her meaning too. A really well-rounded person NEVER stops growing, never stops learning, experiencing. If you find someone that gets that and lives that way too, I think you've found your mate. Do not go and directly look for someone. All you'll do is latch on to someone scared of being alone (like you are.) That never works out. We're all eventually dust, life's too short to waste on those that don't share your vision of life. The work you put into yourself will bring about the person you're meant to be with. DO NOT SETTLE.

Perfect timing Father Mike. Trying to decide the perfect "major" heading into college, is a huge decision, but perhaps you're right. Perhaps, there isn't the "one" choice. There are different "good" choices, and if pursued with a devotion to Christ- it can bring me just as much fulfillment. I definitely believe God chooses people and things as "the one." Ex: Mary to be the Mother of Jesus, Noah to build the ark, etc. And those things/people will inevitably fulfill His purpose because God's plan always prevails. If God has a plan to bring two individuals together for a future marriage because it will allow each person or one of the persons to fill out a duty the Lord has for them, it will happen. But our own idea of "the one" or who we think is "the one" doesn't compare to the ways of the Lord. What's important in any marriage, relationship, friendship, career, or future is the simple remembrance that the Lord is walking with you and He goes before all else. If you live a life devoted to Him, there may be storms along the way, but the people and opportunities He brings to you will always lead to a full heart. So long as you head into the opportunity with Christ front and center. Even if it was the opposite of what you envisioned for yourself.

Great advice. When called to choose from among goods (and that really goes for each vocation, as well as choosing a spouse), the Lord's guidance becomes even more critical. That's what makes having our sights set on the True, One Lover of our Souls the very first priority in life -- and that doesn't change after marriage of profession of vows.

Jae Lo, Catholicism is really 'deep' and most of us find it hard to understand everything, but like everyone, you will, step by step. Receiving the sacraments helps a lot, because grace flows from them. The only one stopping you from coming back is... you. God is looking urgently for you with open arms and is happy to find you. "In the same way, I tell you that there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous ones who do not need to repent.…". FYI, once you're baptized Catholic, you're always Catholic, so its not that hard. So please hurry back. I hope you are already back and don't need this.

Hi Father! I really love your videos but this one kind of confuses me. I know that there can't possibly be one person out there who will always perfectly meet or exceed my expectations of them and who will be exactly everything I want. It just not possible because of sin: no one is perfect. No choice made can ever be purely perfect either in an imperfect world. But I don't understand how if we choose one choice we would end up just as happy as if we had chosen another. I truly believe that in God's great plan, he leads us to certain paths that will follow according to what he wills. Of course we have the free will to choose what we want, but I have found in my own life that through prayer and careful thought God has lead me to where he wants me to be in life.
For example, I am a senior in high school and over the past few years I have been praying desperately that God will lead me to the right decisions and help me choose the right college and the right major so that I can do what he wants me to do. I have found that I am called to be a nurse and I have chosen to go to Hunter College in the fall. I really believe that these decisions have been a result of prayer and that it is truly what God wants me to do. I don't know why he is leading me in this direction, there could be someone who he wants me to reach and spread the gospel to. There could be an experience that I could have that would lead me to a closer faith life with him. I don't think that while there are a number of things that I could have chosen, that there is any other choice that could have made me as fufilled as the plan God has laid out for me. Don't you also find that in your own life in finding your vocation? Obviously God has called you to be a priest and to evangelise the new generation by making videos like this. What would have happened if you hadn't chosen this life? These videos would probably have never existed and they wouldn't be able to reach the many souls I am sure you have touched through these videos.
I think that the same goes for finding a spouse. I understand that there is a number of different people to choose from, but I do believe that God will lead me to the person with whom he wants me to spend the rest of my life. He will never be perfect, and neither will I, but that's ok. Like you said, marriage is a sacrifice and it's something that needs to be worked on. I'm not looking for the "perfect man", I just want the man who God wants me to be with. And in that way, if God wants me to be with someone, and everything he does and wills is perfect, wouldn't the person with whom he wants me to be with, be in this way, the perfect person, if God wants us to be together? I know that you are much more knowledgeable than I am on this topic, so could you please help me understand? Thank you! God bless.

Look there is people who think that God has one perfect person just for you, others, as myself, think that God puts a lot of people on your path, including potential boyfriends/girlfriends, but in the end it's up to you to choose one, and choose wisely. This doesn't mean that we don't value God's guidance, it just means that our question to God is not "God, is he the one?" but is "God, is he a good choice?".

Sorry I didn't read all yr comment, but I agree with you. I think there is 'a one'. The question was not 'a one' who would make us perfectly happy, but is there 'a one' that is God's will for us to marry. I very much think there is 'a one'. And the model is Eve who God created for Adam and from Adam.

+Monique Ocampo Exactly, God has a plan for you, but that doesn't mean that person is this perfect other half, nebulously floating in outer space. In all probability it is someone in your proximity, perhaps that you have already met. Just trust in God and let him bring the two of you together. Don't expect that person to be a perfect match. And yet, in a certain sense they will be "the one" because they will the one you marry, and are uniquely and exclusively united to in a physical union representative of Christ's union with the church.

    • @a.mulberry7712

I agree with everything father Mike says in the video, but I also agree with what you're saying here! No one can fulfil the longings of your heart like Jesus can, and many happily married people will tell you likewise. I'm sure that anyone can find a nice, good person to marry and be happy with them. But does it mean we are should marry them? We are all unique beings who cannot compare with another (we have unique souls), so our individual calls in life are unique and given to us by God. We can choose freely, but in some cases I think God has His own specific plans for us. I'm not sure just any man would've done to fulfil the role of Christ's foster father. We could be happy with anyone, and no one but Christ will fulfil us, but I think when it comes to vocation, and other such decisions, the Lord does very much care to guide us every step of the way. I don't think He would just throw a vocation at us at random and tell us to figure out the rest of it on our own!

+Monique Ocampo - Yes, also how Rebekah was chosen for Isaac (Gen: 24). A good sign is that both have to like each other and both willing to serve God and men in the same path. Marriage is not meant to be all rainbows and sunshine, but yes, it is meant for the happiness of the couple in good and bad times, both united with Christ.
