QUARTZ vs CALCITE vs SELENITE // How to Differentiate Clear Minerals

How can you tell the difference between Quartz versus calcite versus selenite (or gypsum)? Some varieties of all of these minerals can be totally clear or transparent while others can have low opaqueness and appear whitish and still others can have impurities that make them appear in several color varieties. They also all come in a range of Crystal forms, which can make calcite versus selenite difficult bc calcite versus Quartz difficult. So, today I’m clearing up the picture to show you these three minerals and how you can tell the difference between them easily and quickly. All three are relatively easy and fun to rockhound and collect, especially if you learn some basic local geology, and there are a lot of varieties to look for, and they are pretty useful to have as samples in your Rockhounding kit.
