The Entertainer (Scott Joplin) played by me in public

- This was the first time I had ever played in public so I was very nervous, which might explain why I played it a little bit faster at the end. :D
This video took place inside a second hand store, my grandmother had been talking with the owners which were happy to have me playing there.
Recorded on the 20th of November in 2021 using a Zoom H1n microphone with no effects and an iPhone (Sorry for vertical video).
That piano was on sale for 800kr ($87,86) but it has since then been sold. I think it resonates quite well with a ragtime tune like this. Видеоклипы
bro MEMORIZED ragtime! well done, especially in public.
Well done mate. It’s not easy to play in public. The store should hire you to demonstrate the piano.
Thank you! That was actually my first time performing in public. I was so nervous I at one point almost fainted, which I have never done before in my life.
The second time I performed in public I was much less nervous, I was able to almost get into the flow state, which I could only previously do if I was alone.
You should break into peoples houses who have pianos and play this late at night.
Ok, this is definitely one of the best sounding performances I've ever heard! Seriously, the way the piano's unisons are widened a bit making the notes out of tune with themselves gives the sound a nice timbre. That with the chords you played and the expression make the sound so amazing! And also, you're using my favorite microphone!!!
Ayyy
@@edginess2690 Heeeeey :D
I’ve listened to this time and time again, the speed is almost perfect. Quicker than most which in my opinion is better.
You sir are a very talented young man, and this is one of my favorite videos 👍👍
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! I feel like this is a tune that should be played with joy, and not to play it slow and sad.
Joplin marked the original score 'Not Fast'. This is far too fast and flashy.
@@miken891And Arthur Marshall, a good friend of Joplin, dedicated his original composition “Ham And!” to Joplin, as stated on the top of the sheet music, at 100 bpm. Would he have respectfully dedicated it to Joplin if Joplin didn’t think ragtime should be played at these tempos?
my god! this has to be the best version i have ever stumbled across RUclips. Very nice playing dude. also, the piano has a nice tone to it.
I appreciate it! This has become my most popular video, and I'm very proud of the recording.
I'm glad I got to able to perform on this piano, it was actually reserved so that I could perform on it, all thanks to my grandmother(camera woman).
I like Sweden so much!!!
Heck yeah, Sweden rules! 🇸🇪
Brilliant!!
Fantastic. One of the best tempos I’ve heard 👍
Thank you Simon!
It’s amazing that something so good can be done on a piano that is so highly out of tune. Kudos! 😀👏
your so good! i hope to see more videos of yours
Good old times
Another talented lad. Excellent and relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Thanks for posting and please continue to play, record and post. I've sub. New fan. Thanks m8
Please accept my deepest gratitude!
I want to learn this piece too. I love it. He's a brave man.
It's so much fun, also because almost everyone recognizes it. I was very nervous here since it was my first time playing in public, but in hindsight I am so thankful I pulled through it.
Sheesh. This sounds amazing. Congrats
Thank you! I had a really good time performing there.
Perfect 👍👌
awesome job young man
soo talented i cant even 😭😭
this is really awesome 🎹 big like
I liked how you played in public because I was thinking you still had confidence even though you said your were nervous, and I like the piano tone as well great job man!
Thanks! That day was a big step for me, the nervousness is still around but I can now perform in that place without feeling like I am going to pass out. I have received a few comments saying the like the sound of the piano and I can't help but to agree.
Great playing, nothing better that a try before you buy
Thank you and agreed, though I was not looking to purchase a piano at the time. :D
Försöker själv lära mig denna låten! Riktigt grymt spelat!
Vad roligt! Jag hoppas att du kommer ha lika kul som jag hade när jag lärde mig den. Lycka till!!
tack så mycket!
Nice!
wow I can't stop listening to this , I'm a big fan of Scott Joplin this has become one of my favorites haha I already downloaded it on my playlist you got a great talent keep going with more videos congratulations to you great performance.
(Idk if you noticed but in the minute 3:24 a lady says 'Que listo' that means that you are so smart).
I shall say thee is quite a reasonable fella . 🎩🎹
Very good and thanks for the piece. Good luck with your You Tube venture.
Thank you so much! I have received about 6k views recently on two of my videos, just overnight, which is mind boggling to me!
@@Tarzoq that happened to me one time on my other channel and i felt like "wow, i made this and now thousands of people from around the world are seeing it!!" But yeah congrats on your success and hope you will find more success with your channel in the future!
@@5skdm Thank you so much! At the time of writing this comment I have 69k views on one of my videos. I looked at what 50 000 people looked like, and I can't comprehend that so many people has clicked to see me. I guess we were just really lucky :D
Very nice my friend
Bro why does that piano sound so good????
Every week enjoy of play that guy
..
Great performance! You seem very relaxed, even at playing these octaves up and down...
Am I right that you got inspiration by Tom Brier's public performance at the end? :)
Thank you!
And yes, you are absolutely right! Tom Brier is the one who inspired me to play the piano, and I listen to him everyday and can't seem to get enough.
@@Tarzoq Same, Tom Brier also turned me into a ragtime fanatic...his play is just extraordinarily catching.
You go, Guy!! 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
(Is that a Deseret Industries store?)
Nice... those things ain't easy
Excellent start to your channel!
What key was this in? It sounds lower that other performances. Or maybe the piano has been drop-tuned.
Thank you!
I played it in C major (original key), and I agree that is sounds a little flatter than tuned pianos.
This was a piano that was listed for sale, so I have no idea when it was last tuned, but it had to have been a while.
Thanks for watching!
We need him at "coke corner" on main street usa .
How long did it take for you to learn this song? You we’re awesome here
Greeting from the netherlands
Thank you! I learned the iconic part about 2 years ago, then I learnt the rest about a year ago. So I have no idea how long it took, but if I had to guess I'd say about a week.
Greetings from Sweden!
Snyggt jobbat. Det blev ändå mer autentiskt i och med att du inte klippte ur "oopsi" biten. Fortsätt så här och jag hoppas du får succé. Good Luck!
Well this was entertaining..
Was that meant to be sarcastic, because of the dots?
@@Tarzoq nope! It was acttualy entertaining! Get it? Entertainer? Entertaining.
I wonder what kind of piano tone is that?
What do you mean?
That’s the kind of piano tone I like to hear when the entertainer is being played
@@hansentruong2752 Oh, it is indeed! Too bad it has been sold, I have no idea where it could be. :(
This looks like a place where everything is like old
Then you're correct, that is a second hand store.
10 thousand views is getting awfully close xD
Boom, 36 minutes later... 10k views!
@@Tarzoq Boom, 41 minutes later, 10,005 views xD
God talent
You can to be prof of piano for exemple ; kids ,childrens, youth ..
Btw, at 0:56- keep going if u make a mistake
I do need to get better at doing this. Not too long ago I'd stop all the time for minor corrections, which is a pain to listen to.
@@Tarzoq Love how cool you are about accepting criticism. (I don't have any.) I wish I had stuck with my piano lessons as a kid. Too late at 85.
@@MrCrowebobby I know there's always going to be criticism, even if you're the best piano player to ever exist. I actually didn't take any piano lessons, I am completely self-taught. Since all I play is ragtime, which is a very special and unusual type of piano music there's not going to be many teachers who do ragtime.
I hope you are doing well, considering you age :)
Where was this?
An Ikea?
Inside a second hand store in Sweden, but IKEA was a good guess! :D
Kjempefint 🎵🎶🎵🩵🎹🎹
I also play this piece and maple leaf .You should learn maple as well
I do actually, Maple Leaf Rag was the first song I learned to play on piano.
A bit too fast if you ask me, but nonetheless a good job.
Thank you! I agree that it was too fast, it was my first time playing in public so naturally I was nervous which might explain me feeling the need to hurry. :D
I came back because i forgot to subscribe xD
I appreciate it!
The nikes revolution💀
$800 for that piano!!!!
It was 800 in swedish kronor, which would be roughly $87,86.
@@Tarzoq thats one heck of a deal!
Piano is really out of tune!!! Good job anyways!
Thanks! I actually like this slight out of tune sound for ragtime.
