Lovely images David, shows you are a "real artist" and not a RUclipsr reading specs. Great job
Thanks Ralf
WOW! I'm a little jealous of these images. You got some great stuff David!
Thanks Ike
Thanks David. I’ve been wanting to get this one. I’ll give some thought to focusing noise but your still images are excellent.
It is an amazing lens
OMG - fantastic work, David ( unbelievably gorgeous!) The obvious question is how this will compare to the new Sony 20 f1.8 G lens..... you have really showcased what the Tamron can do!
I want to see that comparison also!
Wow! The images are fantastic. Well done.
Amazing images David.
Thanks so much
Me and Gerald have something in common, both dropped the 17-28 and survived 😆. Mine was on camera and I dropped the whole camera setup, breaking some filter threads, but a survivor!
Lol they are robust
Good, practical review with examples. Much appreciated, and I don't even have a Sony camera.
Thank you.
Fantastic review thanks David ..amazing Shots thanks
Thanks mate
beautiful images David..& yes it looks fantastic
Thanks Gilbert
Wow. Just beautiful photos. Looks like that’s a great pick 👍
Thanks Chris
Cool review. Just bought one myself.
Thanks it’s a great lens
Those were beautiful images..wowww
Thanks
I'm not as skilled using ultra-wide lenses, but I want to learn to be better. Based on the lenses siblings I pulled the trigger. The specs are good, the pictures are outstanding. I've used adapted (older) wide-angle lenses in the past, this shines in comparison on 42 mp. I rarely use video so focus chatter is OK. I'm glad I didn't know about the Sony for this is a steal of a deal.
It is am amazing deal
Fantastic Photos & review !!!
Thanks
Very nice… what in-camera or post LUT are you using?? Looks great. 😀😀
All standard here
Beautiful photos! Tamron produces some great lenses! I love my 28-75. I'm considering getting the Sony 20mm, but my bank account is telling me to get the Tamron 20mm LOL😅
Thanks Adrian I love my 28-75mm
Great photos David!!!
Excellent photographs!
thank you
Very good review here. I was leaning to buy this for my upcoming trip (chasing the aurora) until I bumped into the Tokina 20mm F2 AF. The Tamron shoots good pictures as long as you can get past the barrel distortion. And I like the weather sealing too something the Tokina lacks. However, more reviews favor the Tokina for landscape night photography including shooting the aurora borealis. I have a month to decide. Your thoughts?
I think both are great lenses but for Aurora I would go Tokina for the f2
@@DavidOastler thank you for your advice. However, I was doing a little bit more research and it looks like the Sigma 20mm DG DN may be a better choice. It’s a lot more expensive than the Firin so I don’t know if it’s worth the extra dough I’m spending. If I get a used one, I can get it for $450 from a Japanese eBay seller which will be a gray market lens. If it craps out Sigma USA won’t repair it. Is it way too much to compare the Firin to the Sigma? Reviewers are saying the Sigma is a lower cost alternative to the Sony 20mm FE. Appreciate your thoughts on this one.
Tamron has produced quite a collection of zooms and primes for Sony. Wonder how much more they have on the drawing boards.
They have done an amazing job
Outstanding Pics!
Thanks Tim
Fantastic photos!
Thanks
Thanks for the video.....I think I'll have to go visit my local camera shop today! Where did you find those cool old cars ???
It was Nelson ghost town
your still images are excellent
Thanks so much
Hi David I discovered you channel looking for info on Tamron 20mm. Your photos are really great and amazing !!! Congratulations for them.
I was just wondering when you say distortion ( which is for me one weak point of this lens) can be easily corrected under Lightroom or photoshop, is it automatic or you need to correct it manually with some grids ?
Thx for your answer.
For the pics I shoot it is automatic in Lightroom
Thanks for the video. I’ve heard it’s a little bit noisy for blogging; is it true? Do you know if it’s so much better than the Samyang 18mm 2.8 FE? 🙏
Yes there is noise you are better with the 17-28mm for vlogging
Great shots from Lower Antelope Canyon looking up. I have never been successful in getting that shot without blowing out the sky or, if I expose for the sky, having the canyon walls so dark that I can not recover suitable details out of the shadows. (The last time I was there, I was shooting with an A7iii and the Sony/Zeiss 16-35mm f/4.)
Thanks I was very happy with the pics
@@DavidOastler any tips for retaining the sky and the detail in the canyon?
I used bracketing I took 5 exposures
@@DavidOastler Thank you. I didn't even consider bracketing. The last time I was there, they had just banned tripods (even on the photo tours).
Oh yes sorry I was thinking of horse shoe bend. Here I just exposed for the sky and brought the shadows back up. I did over expose the sky a little as I could recover the highlights a little. It’s all a balancing act between highlights and shadows but remember you can recover more shadows.
Hi David! which would be better? The Samyang 18mm f2.8 or Tamron 20mm f2.8?
Ive only use the Tamron and it was great
I still wonder why Tamron came up with this 20mmF2.8 when they have the excellent and more versatile 1728F2.8, which I enjoy tremendously. Especially when the 1728F2.8 is small and light also, and the autofocus is quick and silent.
It’s much cheaper
Nice images David. Other reviewers have noted a lot of barrel distortion, but you didn't seem to find it out of line too much. Do you think Tamron has fixed the issue or are you doing clean-up in post on your images? I don't think Adobe has release a lens profile yet.
It is there Huw but I did not edit any of the images for that so they are as I showed you in the video. It might depend what you shoot though.
Would you recommend the Tamron 17-28 over the Tamron 20mm?
Yes i would
Great images David... How do you think that the IQ of this lens would stack up against the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 on a Sony body? I have the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and a Rokinon/Samyang 14mm f/2.8 AF...
The zooms are better
Where were the old cars & garage that appear at the 3:00 point in the video? I would love to see & shoot them sometime.
Nelson Ghost town near Vegas
@@DavidOastler Thank you. I might have to stop there on my next trip to the area.
amigo Lindas fotos e o auto foco para vídeo funciona bem
This one vs Viltrox20mm 1.8 for landscape?
I’ve never used the Viltrox.
I have the Tamron 17-28mm. Wonder how these compare at 20mm 🤔
The 17-28 mm is a better lens
Gorgeous photos! Any chance you’ll be selling a print of the last “valley” shot?
Yes I might sell some
David Oastler it might be another six months before I have a paycheck again, but when I do.....
Where are these car shots from?
Nelson’s ghost town not far from Vegas.
Fire 🔥 beautiful
Thanks
Hi,nice lens
