I work in an Australian psych ward as an OT. I love it but I have learned that it is ESSENTIAL to REGULARLY self care. I can't just wing it anymore. I have to remind myself all the time that my wellbeing is a priority
In real life the physical issue and the mental issue often happens at the same time. If you have a patient who is paranoid and won't wear an oxygen mask or nasal canula but has a O2 Sat of 88%, you definitley have to deal with the mental at the same time.
That's a very holistic approach that all nurses and doctors should possess regardless of the field they work in, because a person's body can definitely reveal more about a person's issues than what they tell you in the moment. Nonetheless you have to look at the whole person to get to the root of the problem. Thank you Isophesimon for this comment, I will be sure to apply this lesson to my work as a mental nurse in 3 years time🤗💕
Same. I have a degree in Psychology as well as Criminal Justice but am looking & HAVE been looking for something MORE; something where I can actually make a difference in people's LIVES. Mental Health is something that affects EVERYONE. I have a BIG HEART.
Step 1: have a mental break down
Step 2: have the mind of you’re patient

3:50 actually in nursing you have to address the physical problem before you address psychosocial ones .. Maslow’s Hierarchy
Yes sir. Maslow's Hierarchy of needs.

What it takes to be a mental health nurse...then proceeds to interview people that are not mental health nurses.
