It's funny but I think what do you mean to sit at 340 and under 6ft tall, his current bench press wouldn't make him a very competitive as a powerlifter. Even at 600 pounds that puts you in about the top 10% of the pros at untested events, but until you get into the mid 600s, the best guys at that weight are heading over 700 like the Russian, Scott Mendelsom and Ryan Kennelly, Eric Spoto, thev much lighter Larry Wheels and Stan Efferding are over 600 at 275, in a full three movement meet. That's really tough to do so Derek is incredibly strongbut it's simply being humble and realistic about his bench press when he compares himself to the very best in the strength world. no doubt to get a better bunch but again very few strong men are world-class bench pressers because if you get so obsessed on overhead stuff, you will not have the energy to put into flat benching to perform during the same training cycle with world class weight will have adverse effects on the other lips so it's better to specialize depending on when your next competition is scheduled whether it's strong man or powerlifting, whether its bench only or a full meet. They will all reflect a different trainingstrategy and if your training solely for a bench only meet your chances benching at your best is practically guaranteed with the right plan and right guidance.
ive just recently changed to the grip to this and it vastly decreases the stress on the wrists as well as raised my overall bench weight i think it is far better than the normal bar grip
benched 500 in there looks like the old dolphin fitness in wolcott. I remember benches side by side with Derek I hit 495 last set he set 465-470 9 years ago wow how time flies!
@bwkrause there's a lot of good info on how warm up sets are critical for developing power and overall neuromuscular development for any athlete. some say it takes about 1000 reps in our sport to fully learn or change technique. either way doing warm up sets @ 30-50% 1RM will help you develop even better form in your lifts. later in your working sets you definitely notice the reps are a little more automatic as you're really dialed into using the body the way you want. our form of practice.
good work bro. although i prefer to squat in a lower rep range, 8-12, but if you are just starting out then 15-20 is good. you make sure you keep your knees behind your toes??
you can use more weight when using top half. thats the point- you get ur cns used to handling heavy loads and get stronger that way. same way people train the lockout of deadlifts with more weight than they can get from the ground.
what do you weigh, and what weight are you squatting?? the 2 most important things with squats are to keep your back straight and your knees behind your toes (verticaly) get a friend to make sure your knees dont come past your toes when you squat down.
They can effectively train each at 100%. Think of your bench press, and where you get stuck. I get stuck at the bottom (where the deltoids are most important), so say I can get 275 there, but 280 won't break through. But in the top half (where chest and triceps take over) I can handle well over 280. By training each you can focus on the main muscle groups (bottom- delts/lats, top- tris, chest- throughout) with their maximum weight. On a full ROM my tris won't get as much work as if done separate
big fan of Centaponi here, he's a younger guy and i respect his physique so far he's still got somewhat of an old school aesthetic look imo, i hope he maintains that n doesnt go for pure mass further into his career
i did this week free squats first time ever... until then i di smith ones. that was thursday, and my legs are still sore as hell..i did 15-20 reps, and at the end i hardly could get a breath
That flat-board chest press exercise is NUTS!... absolutely NO cheating can be done there... and it's crazy that they're doing such heavy weight in a movement like that with NO spot, but in the regular flat bench press they were... wish my gym had an apparatus like that.
I totally agree with you. Everyone should definitely be marking all these poorly conceived spam comments as spam. They're simply everywhere in the fitness videos.
Evan - "You put another 100lbs in there" Derek - "Yeah" Evan - "Fuck that!" Bodybuilders are awesome and have amazing physique's. No one touches a strongman for strength and raw power
nice bro. when i say repping i mean i press 70 for 4x10 reps. strength day i will do 10 sets of 2 reps using 85 kgs :D but the real question is do you squat???
@acubanmissile he does not use roids. he has gifted genetics and the way he trains builds more power instead of looks which is waht a body builder would want.
@GreenPhazon then this guys is doing differently perfect... wow look at the fullness of the biceps.. fi you want to know a good bb .. or a good physicue look at the hard parts .. its the pectoral minor and bicep long head and lower portion.. most bbb or people dont have those developed any well
Suicide grip does not help you bench more weight it's a myth.....you actually have a stronger bench with thumbs around the bar and wrist not bent but straight
"I'm not much of a bencher"
"I'm working on a 600 pound raw bench"

The power of Derek is clear and already fabulous, but I am realy surprised by Evan. He is very strong.
Thanks for post!
Thanks for the vintage recs youtube.
"I'm not a big bencher. I'm aiming for 600lbs raw". hahaha, I could only dream of 600lbs.
Gavin Nicoll or yoi could do some test and press it
At 5:03 everybody in the gym stops and stares at the dude benching all the plates!! lol
wow these guys are just incredible
Great to see, please put out some more of that.
ive just recently changed to the grip to this and it vastly decreases the stress on the wrists as well as raised my overall bench weight i think it is far better than the normal bar grip
its like east meets west, i love this vid thanks MD.
benched 500 in there looks like the old dolphin fitness in wolcott. I remember benches side by side with Derek I hit 495 last set he set 465-470 9 years ago wow how time flies!
Centopante?
i love that in every video whenever he lifts everyone around him stops to watch.
Very impressed with Centopani's strength.

How much does that dumbell in the end weight?
good work bro. although i prefer to squat in a lower rep range, 8-12, but if you are just starting out then 15-20 is good. you make sure you keep your knees behind your toes??
Can someone explain the purpose of training the botttom ROM then the top ROM, instead of just a full ROM??
Derek is acting like the bodybuilder is as strong as he is, even though he's twice as strong, just shows how humble Derek is
uh oh he said he has been eating pop tarts, the hodge twins won't like that lol. Derek is the man.
omg...i just checked my quads...DAMN, i have some HUGE teardrops coming in

Jesus... Poundstone's floorpress has almost the same range of motion as his regular bench... Incredible mechanics.
Sounds spot on to me. Keep going hard my man, be proud to be part of the low percentage of gym goer's that actually squat!
"You put another hundred pounds on that? Fuck that!"
Benching 135 for these guys must be like us benching a pencil.
perfect form
wow. poundstone goes real hard
what kind of roids do they use lol they are way stronger then roider bbs? or am i wrong?

seems like a cool guy
@dan13718 arent you talking about powerlifters because bodybuildings normally use reps in the 8-15 range
0:10
Please tell me the name of the song.
i respect the powerlifters who actually care about their physique.
Seeing these two at the gym would be like seeing Colossus and Beast (before he turned blue) or two other superheroes working out.
its you against you thats the beauty of lifting
thats with a bench shirt. but mark bell can do somewhere around 830 with a shirt
big fan of Centaponi here, he's a younger guy and i respect his physique so far he's still got somewhat of an old school aesthetic look imo, i hope he maintains that n doesnt go for pure mass further into his career
training with evan centopantay?
i use shortcut to size, first week is 12-15 :) i'm trying, but my form has room to improve
i did this week free squats first time ever... until then i di smith ones. that was thursday, and my legs are still sore as hell..i did 15-20 reps, and at the end i hardly could get a breath
feels good to use the full size plates though doesnt it?
Who benches 700 in strongman? I heard even Zydrunas' max is somewhere 600, and Shaw around 525 - 550.
Derek has one of the best looking bodies out of all the competing professional Powerlifters, well balanced and quite ripped.
Stop playin' with your shirt, Derek ! :D
"You put an extra 100 lbs in there ... Fuck that..." lol
what's the benefit of floor presses?
Lock out strength and more emphasis on triceps. Also more healthy for your shoulders
0:39 is called "Black" by Sevendust.
need more poundcake content!
GREAT
@Feon2 yeah and he didnt even do a push press with strong hip and leg drive. he straight pressed it.
lol, love the ending. Evan: "And you put another 100 pounds in that". Derek: "Yeah". Evan: "Pffffft, fuck that". XD
damn connecticut has produced some big ass dudes
Im not a big bencher .. Says hes only going for 600lb .. :o then whats a good bencher?
"Im not a big bencher buy im going to try to change that and get a 600 lb raw" what a monster
@Hamzy91 yeah kinda hard tho cus most of them train differently
Music (0:00 0:39) ???
Who are the people in the top comments talking to?
That flat-board chest press exercise is NUTS!... absolutely NO cheating can be done there... and it's crazy that they're doing such heavy weight in a movement like that with NO spot, but in the regular flat bench press they were... wish my gym had an apparatus like that.
@The7776 "He is quite possibly the strongest overhead presser in history." better than Kaz?
Now evan is the one doing all the talking while the other guys the sidekick :P
Genetics, nutrition management, time and stuff like that also matters :P
@steriods4champions indeed. bodybuilders aren't weak at all.
The new youtube made me think for a second that this was a new clip...
He's eating the same amount of protein as he was before, but he's added in more carbs and fats.
I totally agree with you. Everyone should definitely be marking all these poorly conceived spam comments as spam. They're simply everywhere in the fitness videos.
Evan - "You put another 100lbs in there"
Derek - "Yeah"
Evan - "Fuck that!"
Bodybuilders are awesome and have amazing physique's. No one touches a strongman for strength and raw power
84 kg. i did 40 kg, just to check my form. with the smith ones i did reps with 90 kg
Derek Poundstone needs to come to the COWBOYS baby
Evan: You put ANOTHER hundred pounds in there? Derek: Yeah :D Evan: Pfffftttt, fuck that.
Great video! Dont see 2 many bodybuilders hang and train with strength athletes!
nice bro. when i say repping i mean i press 70 for 4x10 reps. strength day i will do 10 sets of 2 reps using 85 kgs :D but the real question is do you squat???
@kcirross i ment him the gear is wearing off im not a fan of derek but i give props because he is huge just seems a lil weak for his size thats all
@acubanmissile he does not use roids. he has gifted genetics and the way he trains builds more power instead of looks which is waht a body builder would want.
very interesting
im prity sure that dumbell is loadable, i dont think it was full..
good stuff
there are so many ppl stopping and looking
(just a joke) whos poundstone the big one??
@GreenPhazon wait this isnot the video with the guy i was talking about... there is anothe rbb that is HUGE and full
he is about to throw 135 into the ceiling
yeah evan centopantay
@ocpowerlifters yeah he is amazing and there are rumors he is natural
Evan is 250- in here, Derek is 340+. So its goes to show how strong BB are. 405x8 insane. I weight 240 and my max is 405x2
550 3 board to 600 raw bench? Might take a while Derek!!!
If Derek Poundstone was a big bencher= 900 raw minimum by now.
Apparently 5 people think they bench more than Derek Poundstone lol
@mohammdBaQeR how much you weigh?
@GreenPhazon then this guys is doing differently perfect... wow look at the fullness of the biceps.. fi you want to know a good bb .. or a good physicue look at the hard parts .. its the pectoral minor and bicep long head and lower portion.. most bbb or people dont have those developed any well
if i was rich i'd pay this guy millions to train me
view 50 000 awesome vid
well hes not exactly hanging with derek but he is pretty strong for a bodybuilder
Have you experienced "Six Pack Strike?" (look for it on Google) It is a quick way to get ripped fast.
they did alot of sets there like :') good video tho :)
4:40 ... The gym stops as Evan presses the 405!
yeh i don't think he meant percentage lol, that wouldn't make sense, i get what ur saying, he probably just meant more carbs/fats -> same protein
look some videos of el porruo. A spanish powerlifter
Suicide grip does not help you bench more weight it's a myth.....you actually have a stronger bench with thumbs around the bar and wrist not bent but straight
their warm out is my max lol
60 70 % and then 600 raw heavy shit
