- FLASHBACK! USA's Derek POUNDSTONE is possibly the best Strongman never to win a WORLD's STRONGEST MAN title. In 2009 at Mohegan Sun, POUNDSTONE was at the peak of his career.
The World Number 1 destroyed the field winning 5 out of 6 events and broke the Apollon's Axle Press (415lb) WORLD RECORD - not once but twice - in the same evening.
It was back-to-back wins at Mohegan Sun for POUNDSTONE, having beaten 5-time WSM winner, Mariusz PUDZIANOWSKI in a close contest in 2008.
The Connecticut cop was runner up to Mariusz Pudzianowski in an agonising finish to the - 2008 World's Strongest Man Final - when he dropped the last Atlas Stone when in a commanding position.

Derek Poundstone truly deserved to win the WSM-he came so close and if not for an atlas stone falling off he would have-still remember he deadlifting 800pds 9times and back then that was insane strength
Poundstone was one of the greats. Strongman was the best back in the 00s, great events, great competition. Great sportsmanship and none of the drama or hate!

i remember watching WSM as teenager in the early 00s, then it seemed to disappear for a while, but now it seems bigger than ever.

Laurence Shahalei. People tend to forget about big Loz, he was strong overhead and pulled a 426kgs deadlift when only him, shaw, savickas and poundstone could do that... also one of the best in yokes and carries.

Poundstone was built like a tank with the strength to back , phenomenal athlete!
That was a complete and utter destruction of his competition.Such a shame he got injured so badly, when he was in this type of condition.

He had many of them. One was a bicep tear, and I think it was even twice on the same bicep. He also complained of hip pain in a powerlifting video with Mark Bell.

Love the video, poundstone had the look, the personality,and the strength. Its always awesome to look back at his career, he was also the first guy i ever watched in strongman and introduced to it.
His physique, frame, power, and name are badass lol! Im not quite as badass but alot of people say i have one crazy badass name lol. Lyndung McFagline. Honestly what do you think? Are people messing with me or would "introducing the reigning, defending, undisputed champion of the world King Kong Lyndung McFagline!!!! Sound just badass and pretty amazing to the point were people in the stands would get piloerection? Thor Keiliszkowski Mariusz Pudzianowski had a waaaay better physique than Poundstone and destroyed him in WSM. Eddie hall and zydrunas strongest monsters though.

Poundstone and Pudzianowski was pretty evenly matched, they had some good battles
@@MrInzombia Aye Pudz was something else but I prefer Poundstones physique to be honest. Poundstone actually bested Pudz occasionally and Pudz was no doubt better at the speed that wsm requires. But Poundstone won the arnold twice and Pudz couldn't even podium there, reason they call it the heaviest show in the world.
Been a fan follower of Derek's for years the man has spent many years working his ass for this sport very underrated competitor/athlete!

The Poundstone and Pudzianowski era was the best era in strongman. It was always nip and tuck between them both especially in the deadlift and overhead press events.
Spencer WRONG it was between ZAVICKAS and Pudzuanowaki ! Either one could have had more then 4 and 5 WSM.

Not only did he win every event so that means he held heavier weight and did more reps than everyone. On top of that he held his reps longer than anyone. What a beast
Wow, that was amazing! He was truckin thru events. Even if he couldn't lift the last stone, he did excellent! The overhead lift was just crazy though. He did that like he was lifting a heavy briefcase!😱💪🏽
He should have won 2008 WSM But he choked. On the Stones and Pudzianowski stile his Glory. I Really hope and Pray he Wins WSM! He truly deserves it. He is a Great Champion and a Kind man. Good role model for our youth.

Poundstone was one of my all time favourites and an absolute specimen. Along with the likes Riku Kiri and OD Wilson could have, on a good day, won the WSM.
