Great review and VERY accurate! I love me XT-R! It's been a work horse around the farm and during the weekends it's a blast on the trails! I think Yamaha is going to sell a lot of them!
I bought the top of the line. Rmax2 LE I think is the model. The shock control from inside the cabin is awesome. First time out I was with a buddy in 2021 Polaris rzr. The rmax was faster from a stop to 60 on everything but pavement. On pavement it was very close. And it handles amazing. This is basically a sport machine with a bed. I love it.
Stephen, always enjoy your reviews. You give a great synopsis as well as enough detail that provides the kind of information a prospective buyer wants to know about a product. BTW, I just took delivery of a new RMAX, but because of a number of snow storms, the odometer only reads 4 miles from going around the block a few times!!! Can't wait for a real ride! In the meantime, I've been adding accessories like a winch, windshield, mirrors, etc.
I had my heart set on a General this year but, after checking all the reviews and specs between the two? It was pretty easy to choose this machine over the General. You get a lot more for your money, and this Yamaha seems to be equal or better than the General in every way. So, I ordered one. Only it wont get here until the spring. Which is actually okay, because it gives me time to get more monies together for the down payment. I've always had Polaris machines, and really liked them. I hope I like this one as much or more! Thank you for the video, it was a really thorough review.
@Paul Ringer No doubt Honda makes some great machines! We were given a very old Honda that had been sitting out in a field for over 6 years. All's my husband did was drain the gas, put new plugs in it, and it fired right off! Never smoked one bit! Just amazing. We ended up giving it to a less fortunate family, and they are still riding that old ATV this day! And the only money they have put into it? has been gas! I'll never say anything bad about Honda products.
A laugh was had and the thumbs-up was struck the minute dad said, "apparently the Canadian government doesn't think we are smart enough...". Wicked. Great review and thank-you. Looking forward to someone finally reviewing the new X2 also, as it's had some significant upgrades to the ergos/cab, from my understanding. But, sitting in the shadows by all reviewers due to the RMAX. Maybe they just aren't available yet from Yamaha.
Polaris have always been terrible. Its just nobody spoke up because of pride. I worked at a dealership as a tech. From my family to yours, stay away !!! Keep it Japanese 💯
I am sure Yamaha and Can Am, Honda, kawasaki the others are very good machines. I just purchased the SVX 1000 Tracker and I added others options. I am very happy with the power and reliability and I have even more space and I am sure is going to be a excellent Machine. Next Machine i am waiting for 2022 is the Can Am limited by that time hopefully they increase the horse power to carrier the extra 500. 😊 pounds .
Awesome stuff. Great that you have dad joining ya. I could have watched you rip thru the trails for another 45 minutes. Expensive for sure, but they all are now... I got the base model coming which is about 2500 less than the SE. The D-mode switch is 156, add a winch and a rear view mirror and it'll be a similar to the SE.
Man, $30 000 for a toy. I am on my way to play Lotto max. That is not cheap for a side by side. Can these be optioned with a closed in cab and heat???? When you get old like me, heat is nice in cold weather. Stephen, you are living the dream....get paid to play with toys in the mud. When I saw you in the Yamaha, brought back memories of the TRD 4 RUNNER in the ice.
Great video! The Rmax is a wicked platform, but still overpriced here in Canada. That two handled gas jug is nice, but the nozzle piece is not. Picking up 25 or more liters of fuel is a bit of a pain, a battery operated transfer pump is easier and faster.
Great video! So, you've now ridden comparable mid-range models of both the new Commander and the RMAX2. Verdict? If you HAD to pick one, which would it be, and why? Thanks, and keep up the great work!
Please ask Yamaha to consider the 850 cc you mentioned you can get for the wolverine as an option in the grizzly. 850 cc twin and the 686 cc single would have the grizzly covered more competitive with Polaris and can am.
I enjoyed your vid. There are so many different machines out there that offer Race, Sport, Utility & everything in between. Reliability has been a #1 factor in my decision making. Then there are many other factors like comfort, power, suspension travel and low or high maintenance. I have had Honda & currently own Yamaha X-2. Nice to get way out there away from civilization and have your biggest fear being a flat tire :)

@12:52, what was the level of water that came into machine? Curious if it rushed in or slowly came into the footwells. Great review. You are one of my favorites to listen to. There are a couple comments here on the size of your rock pile. Sure it is small, but if they go back and watch how you did with the x4, they'll appreciate the Rmax.
What suspension settings were you running for tests? They looked a little soft for the aggressive trail riding you were doing? The rear end looked like it kicked pretty hard at one point too, either you came off the gas or the rear end suspension was set too soft…..just curious looked fun though overall.
