Wow knew side x's were loud but had no idea operators could loose hearing so quickly without ear plugs or muffs ! 100db not something to ignore. I'll stay with a jeep or suv.
Thanks for your sacrifice with this one. I wonder if applying that egg carton shaped foam to the roof would make a similar if not greater improvement. If the kilmat wont keep the sound in, perhaps stopping the reflection of the sound off the roof and doors might be a better way about it.
I am glad you are happy with it. Definitely labor intensive . I sold my commander and bought a defender. What a difference . The defender is very quiet . I also own a 700 pioneer . Not as loud as the old commander but I use ear plugs . It really gets loud around 35 and up. 3rd gear should be called loud gear. lol.
I think the ear test is best for this one. When the family ride with you next time they'll be able to tell if it's quieter or at least a less annoying tone. The phone db meters aren't perfect. Cool to see kilmat on a side by side.
Exactly why I sold my Rmax and purchased a. Ranger northstar with ride command. Well also because Yamaha doesn’t have a decent enclosure. Now I sold my Ranger because it was boring. Yamaha yxz is next
I kinda want to get a yxz I can keep lower rpm. I don’t like how the engine runs at 4 thousand rpm just to get going then flat lines at 40 mph. You can also do an exhaust wrap from the headers on back will cut the decibels good to. I like my le r max it handles well it’s pretty comfortable. He fox shocks with the switch control are ok barely noticed a difference but did what they were supposed to keep me from bottoming out. Good reliable machine. Changes I would make are clutch rpm engagement make the cab enclosure more of a seasonal tool less change like a jeep for the hard enclosure. The gps is a joke wouldn’t buy another rmax with it in that must change

Its the exhaust that is the loudest component on that machine.
Kilmat is better for metal panels, more for dampening vibration not reducing actual sound. For that you need sound abortion mats, closed cell foam acoustic panels worked great on my yamaha viking. I will be doing the same on my rmax4
Like someone else mentioned, the roof is a culprit as well. I put a layer on the roof to help with the reverberation. Sound is basically vibration so "softening" the surfaces will help. Also I am also convinced it is the tone or frequency of the sound not so much the volume.
Yeah this is just like my RZR 800, noisy as #@#$#. I did what you just did, put insulating mat everywhere i could. The big difference for mine was just building a lot quieter exhaust. But the dampening mat sure did a lot. Maybe not the same, the 800 is an really old machine and sounds like a bucket of bolts even when rebuilt lol. Great video!
I would like to see a comparison with no top and/or a soft top. I have a feeling the top bounces a lot of it around. Assuming the soft top or no top does make a substantial difference then you might be able to add the sound deading to the underside of the roof. Maybe those foam panels that have triangle cutouts to reduce echos in recording rooms.
After hearing how loud these side by sides are, that would definitely be annoying. I’ve always rode Honda atv’s so not much noise to deal with on my 350 & 450 utility putting around.
Enjoy these videos, you would think it would help with heat also.?? That’s one thing about my Polaris razor 1000 turbo it gets hot in the cab pretty quickly.
You pump out some great content. Would love to see a 700/750 class big bore shootout. Brute force, king quad, grizzly sportsman. In the market for one.
The cvt 's are just loud and the plastics just echo the sound , i do find the Yamaha's are loud machines my Grizzly's are loud compared to other Japanese machines try throwing a moving blanket on top of your center console from your shifter back i bet that makes a difference
I enjoy the turbo xp i have for that reason, it doesnt need the higher rpm to maintain a decent speed, and no lack of power when needed. the rmax looks nice, and fits 4 adults, but the vibration and noise from the motor at your feet would keep me away from buying it
Why is it that most sxs leaving the dealership all have off centre steering wheels my recent recently purchased a new Honda and the steering wheel was 90° off my previous Yamaha Wolverine was off a nice bit.
sound deadening does nothing for that type of vehicle. Certainly not worth the time and effort to do. These vehicles are intended to be driven wearing a helmet. they are no different than an ATV in those regards.
Hey rock I sent you messages no reply man, this is the 700xx guy lol I got a Honda for sale I just posted might be up your alley 2001 Honda 400 foreman foot shift 2400 miles needs work bought as a non running rig. My green one needs work I’d do a trade

It may have only dropped decibels a little bit but I see that kilmat working as a heat shield excellent with the reflective side
Thanks for your sacrifice with this one. I wonder if applying that egg carton shaped foam to the roof would make a similar if not greater improvement. If the kilmat wont keep the sound in, perhaps stopping the reflection of the sound off the roof and doors might be a better way about it.
Thank goodness you posed a new video i’ve pretty much watched all your videos
Wow thanks, I appreciate the dedication!

Waste not waist.
Thanks for the video. 👍

Really enjoyed this one. Always makes me nervous the first time I tear into a new bike of mine. Lol

My 2020 Teryx 4 was ridiculously loud and super hot. I am planning on buying a 2024 Rmax this spring, hopefully it's not as loud as u make it seem lol

I use The Com intercom system. The headsets block out a lot of noise and the voice activated mics are sweet.
I might look into some.
Congratulations for your 20 000 subscribers ! I’m part of them since december 2022, i think, there were at the time 4000 subs ....
Thank you, very happy with the 20,000 mark. I know you’ve been around and commenting for quite some time now, I appreciate the support!

Agree, someone needs to come out with a soft headliner. Thought about carpet on the ceiling.
It has to also make it a lot cooler now that it’s insulated !!
Definitely helped with the heat as well.
Yeah me too
Great video. Do you think adding a headliner would reduce sound bouncing around in the cab. Love to know your thoughts on that.
Sometimes it is the tone that gets to you
I would add some type of adhesive felt or foam to the underside of the roof. That should help absorb some of the echo next to your head.
You should have picked up a 18pk of beer thats alot of work.

Awesome video as always. 👍
Thank you!
Good video. Im stuck between this and a talonx4. Coming down to suspension and cabin noise, not so much for me, but the little.
Hard decision, nice looking wildcat XX! I’ve been wanting to get one of those, if they would have made a 4 seater I’d of bought one for sure.
Full steel welded factory skid plate and an empty roof is very noisey. Try a roof bag on the rmax. I bet that would make the biggest difference.
I’ll have to give that a try!
I would try doing the roof as well
The Polaris and the Yamaha sound like they're going to blow up at 30 mph. I know they're both CVT but it sounds like they need another gear 😂.
Yeah agree, I could never own anything with a Cvt
It's weird how high sxs rev until you get used to it

hey rock, good to see you keep putting videos out!!anything coming soon on fixer upper atvs??
Definitely have some repair videos coming soon.
Rock trying to get a hold of to bring my Honda FourTrax for repairs... tried Facebook Messenger before didn't work
I was planning on doing this to my X2 1000. It hate how loud it is
It does help some, still on the loud side but more manageable.
Great job Arkansas Wavin
Thanks!
The 25 Rmax4 kind of solves this. It's an extended rmax2, with the engine further back. I find the whine from the tires doesn't help either.
I have a 2024 X2 1000 and it is loud and I have a cab kit I'm going to be installing to I have some work to do to figure out how to make it quitter.
Wear a helmet. Simple.
The cvt 's are just loud and the plastics just echo the sound , i do find the Yamaha's are loud machines my Grizzly's are loud compared to other Japanese machines try throwing a moving blanket on top of your center console from your shifter back i bet that makes a difference

When you only had three sheets left you could have tossed " 3 sheets to the wind "
Give us a smal ride video. I would like to see the trails you ride.
Do the Roof, no joke it will help
Great video
Is it because the yamy hamy motor is more in the cab?
Yes the engine is in the center of the cab vs the rzr behind the cab. Makes a big difference. Also the Yamaha runs at higher rpms than the Polaris.
Comparing the RZR and Rmax on ride quality. How do they compare??
Probably get a better result putting it on underside of the roof
I’m not familiar with the sound dampener, is it absorbent?
It’s supposed to be.
Why is it that most sxs leaving the dealership all have off centre steering wheels my recent recently purchased a new Honda and the steering wheel was 90° off my previous Yamaha Wolverine was off a nice bit.
Try a headliner
Lotta work for no results. Thanks for saving me from wasting time/money on this.
102 to 98 decibels is 60% reduction in noise according to the DB converter.
You must be special....😂
