Bought new '23 x4 850 xt-r, trading in our 2-up atv. We're nearly 70 and wanted to keep riding.. Bringing friends & family is a blast, along with the quietness, makes riding very enjoyable. No issues or regrets after 700+ miles. Thanks for the vid.

Just got my 2023 Wolverine x4 the other day, after so many years in the Military; I had no chance of getting anything for fun, well my wife and I saw your video! So a big thank you for the excellent description and demonstration of that little beastie! just added side mirrors and the drop down windshield.
So far driven a few KM on a paved road, still waiting for amazon to deliver the helmets, had to wear a replica WWII German helmet!! anyway I need to get it in the dirt! everywhere there's woods roads; trails and the old rail line up here in NL.
Still have to wait about another month for the snow to cut; we have a long winter. Thanks again take care.

Thank you for taking the time to make this full review! For our family of 4, I was looking at this & Honda Pioneer. Right now i am leaning toward this Wolverine X4 with roof & split fold down windshield. Living in West Virginia that's completely Mountainous, I love the trail ability of the short wheelbase. The price point at 16k great as well!

Thank you and I will now be seriously considering this when I finally get my LUXE Toy Hauler for full time living in retirement.
The way you described it I'm betting it's at or under 10' in length which is perfect for the floor plan my Toy Hauler will have.
So again thank you for a great review with honest opinions...

Great job. Got the 2020 X2 XTR in Sept . Just got the windshield and soft enclosure. Took the plow from my old 2016 Wolverine and installed that. Got the cab heater as well. Just got three days of snow here in NE PA. Machine did a super job handling the snow. It did things I didn't think she could do. Super impressed. Wasn't sure if I should get the X4 or not. But the X2 is working out great. Again super job , very informative.

Thanks for the good review. Friend of mine bought the Terex because the Wolverine was to hard to get in and out of. I bought the wolverine because it wasn't it wasn't a polaris (I've had 2). I have just over 3000 Km and still enjoy it and if it don't like something about it I change it or make it better. If I do a review of my machine you could see all the mods I've done to my Wolverine. For the way and where we ride I like the machine.

Good review. I sat in this machine when I was upgrading from my Pioneer 700 to my Pioneer 1000. The Yamaha is definitely more sporty than the Pioneer. I needed a little more utility than sport that’s why I went with the Honda but this Yamaha had a great cockpit. The fancier model connes with Navigation, too.

Great review and very helpful. I'm looking into a 4 seater for the fam and it's down to this and the Teryx. I'm leaning toward this because when I rode in a buddies Teryx is was obnoxiously loud, to the point I would probably have to have my kids wear ear plugs. The rest of the machine was great but the noise was hard to ignore. I'm also an admitted Yamaha fanboy and I know the build quality is always top notch. Might have to go with the Yammie on this one.

Excellent video man! This is the best review I have seen so far. Only thing I noticed was if you tilt the steering wheel all the way up when getting in/out it makes it even easier. This is by far the most comprehensive X4 video so far. I have a 2018 X4 base that I got new for cheap in 2019 and I love my unit. Would be nice to have the extended rear arms but I don’t plan on putting any bigger tires than 28”s in the future. I subbed to your channel. I would like to see how you install a full light bar in conjunction with a full windshield. I am east coast and want my light bar to sit below the roof. I know that might not pertain to you west coast guys. I am sure this thing will give you many of good years of fun. Good luck!

Excellent real world review. So many videos I've watched have made the entry and exit sound impossible. And they fly up some boulder strewn creek bed at mach chicken then complain that the wolverine lacks fully adjustable shocks and tops out at 51mph. I don't know who takes their young kids and elderly mother for a foot to the floor adventure but I don't believe that was Yamaha's intent when building this side by side. Thanks for showing we family folks the positive aspects of the Wolverine. You sold me (and my family) on one.

So I've been researching what 4 seater I should get. Honestly I've been wrestling back and forth with the notion of getting a Pioneer 700-4. But I think I have to stick with the Yamaha.

Great job on your review. From what I have seen on other brands, because of their belt drives, they will not hold their own going down say a 50° or more long incline. They hold for a bit then their belts let loose and you're freewheeling and riding the breaks to the bottom because it won't kick back in unless you give it some gas... The Arctic Cat that I'm driving right now does this... So I would like to see your X4 holding it's own going down a steep hill without having to use the brakes because so many others fail this little test :)

Honda Pioneer 500 was my first (for many reliable and functional reasons) The 2019 Yamaha Wolverine X-2 Special Edition was my next machine. for many of the same reasons. I had them installed in my x4 at the dealership before I left with it and have always wondered if I should have left the original weights in it. Its It's always seemed to rev pretty high. If you ever want an improvement in ride quality, check out the Walker Evan's after market shocks. It totally transforms the ride of the machine. You'll love them!

I have a 2016 Viking with 13,000kms on it. I had belt issues at 11,000kms. I just want to give people a heads up that you don't have to have issues at 11,000kms. What I know now is that at about 5,000kms you should take out the primary clutch, clean it and apply new Ultramatic grease. That would have saved my fixed primary sheave. But with that said, the primary fixed sheave is cheaper than a belt and just as easy to change. It's a GREAT transmission but it isn't totally maintenance-free. Also, with oversized tires, I suggest doing a wet clutch kit (slug or spring) at the very least. It requires an oil drop and a new seal. But the benefit is that it'll help extend the wet clutch life which is about a $600 assembly to replace.

Just be glad you didn't buy the KYB shock model. They have 26 setting on top and 31 on the bottom. Took me 6 mouths to get set so it didn't ride like a buck board wagon. Findley set them all the way soft and disconnected the rear sway bar. Rides pretty good now. Go to Lowe's and get yourself a 20 dollar 4x8 sheet of wall sheet vinyl and make some front inter fender liners. That will keep mud from up under the dash board. Can Am push pins work great to hold in place. Good luck with your new machine. 2019 Wolverine R Spec x2 rider

Funny, watching you drive I thought "Looks a lot like Idaho" When you said "Trinity Lakes in Idaho." We ride Edna creek a lot, do a lot in the Owyhee's too.

Very nice review i looked at these but went with the Kawasaki im 6'4 275 and the Kawasaki just offered more on room and to be honest the heat or noise is not a big issue to me like alot of people say but i do drive a cobra with heat and massive noise in your ear so i guess i was pre exposed.

Great job. Thanks. I’m very interested in the cab noise levels. The RZR is too much. The Pioneer seems great but back seats suck. If you have ever ridden in a RZR, how much real world difference is there? Thanks.

    • @nickrendo

There is a big difference. I have ridden with a few friends that have canam or polaris and they were surprised at the quiet ride.

Good review. Do you get any vibration on the Go Pro ? Just bought the last 2020 x2 in Texas lol. Hasnt even seen a trail yet :( been driven on my small track at my house. Seems like its a bit twerky in 2 and 4 wheel drive. feels like its very tight. Did yours do that when it was new?

So far i really like the setup. I for sure would always do the square setup. I like the tires a lot so far but havent had them in deep mud or snow. They are a bit softer so i think they would wear faster than something like a bfg ko2 but i think most offroad tires are this way. It is a dot radial so it does fine fine on the road

Great review Nick, I'm currently struggling between the Wolverine X4 850 and X4 1000. I plan on using it in what looks to be similar to you on mountain trails and roads. Any words of advice would be appreciated to help me decide. Thanks in advance.

So this is the 850 correct? I need to find out about cockpit noise at say 30mph on pavement. Is there too much engine noise to have a conversation?

I like the looks of the Teryx better than the Yamaha. The seating on the Kawi seems a lot better than the Yamaha. But because of the heat and noise I will be buying the Yamaha!

Nice review. I have the exact same machine. I am looking at the same size tire/wheel package. Assuming you have a 5+2 wheel offset did you space out the rear wheels and if so what thickness spacers? I believe the rear wheels would require 1.5" spacers to equal the front wheel width. I am no sure if you can comment on the pros/cons of having the rear wheel width equal or less than the fronts. Also any update on changing the clutches or not? Thanks for any info from your bro in NH.

Hey bud, thanks for watching. Msa m25 wheel 14x7 +10 offset with 28" x10"efx motoclaws. No spacers. Measures 63" front and 61" rear with 12.25-12.50" ground clearance.

I installed Raceline Mamba wheels with a 5+2 offset. Using 1" spacers in the rear works best. The rear wheel track is slightly wider than the fronts.just an FYI for anyone else considering this upgrade. I went with Sedona Rip Saw tires 28x10-14. Maxxis Carnivors would be a good choice too. Enjoy the trails!

Did you have to Modify the sheeve When you added the 28" tires? I was told if you went up to 28" tires you did not have to modify it is that your understanding?

    • @nickrendo
      @nickrendo  3 года назад +1

I bought the yamaha clutch weights but have not installed them. Ill probably not use them. From what i have heard that the yamaha big tire kit is to lite and makes the cruising rpms really high. Ill likely do an 18g weight kit with grease at some point (lighter than stock). I looked into sheaves but so many people go back and forth between JBS and Hujterworks and grease vs greaseless that its hard to really know what option to go with.

Can you give me your thoughts on the 28” tire/wheel setup? How much power did you loose from the stock setup? How much did it help/hurt the ride? Would that tire be good for east coast rocky/hill terrain?

    • @nickrendo
      @nickrendo  3 года назад +1

my thoughts are that i prefer the extra ground clearance, better traction, and piece of mind of the 8 ply radials overall. I noticed that the steering feel is a bit heavier but still great. I noticed a slight power loss and or slight slower acceleration change but nothing substantial. i have not decided which clutch change i want to do but a lot of guys change the weights and that helps recover the changes from the tire size increase. the benefits out weigh the draw backs on the tire change IMO. thanks for watching

Yeah, i can show that. The 11mth baby is tough just because of the age, no helmet, etc. I basically just ratchet strap in their car seats.
