I guess DA2 is a first game where "you" can fall in love and be rejected. Sad but great anyway. UPD: I was wrong, it's not the first. Why, Bioware, WHY?! T__T
The keep is odd with Aveline. I'm making a character that Aveline can't stand and will eventually leave. The issue is that the mage character give Fenris to his further master. If I select that option, I am unable to also select the option to have Aveline leave, the keep makes her stay. You'd think that she would be extremely opposed to selling Fenris or anyone.
Heart wants what it wants. If you love someone, let them go. Maybe she felt she had to be pragmatic despite how much she respects Hawke’s leadership while trying to be a good leader in the city herself. Hawke is still finding their place in the world perhaps beyond Kirkwall. She felt honor-bound to re-establish order in that screwed up city and protect its citizens, even though it’s rough and there were mistakes. Probably overthought (like she does with her infatuation with Donnic) on the potential in the relationship and figured it’d be unfair to her and Hawke both if in the end she’d ask Hawke to stay by her side as she tries to make the city a better place than it was.
Why I love Aveline as a character? She's not standard beautiful, she's not a frail incidental female character, but she's also not a super-aggressive carpet-munching action chick. She's strong and awkward, honest and loyal. Shows mercy when she can, but enjoys taking her frustration out on those who go too far. She and Varric are the only two characters in the game who aren't too caught up in their own problems to not realize the insanity that is going down.

It surprised me how ell that was done, it was like an actual relationship where one person wants to be the others lover and the other person is completely blind to it. Then the one that wanted more ended up letting the other person go to be happy, sacrificing their own chance...powerful stuff :D

I fell for this bullshit myself, so i went on a second playthrough. Accepted her quest, lied my ass off to dumbo Donnic then soon after i think the following happened as it said on Dragon Age Wiki cause i never finished her boring quests. "However, if you don't complete Aveline's quest, Donnic will be rude towards her during the entire game, and he'll have problems with her leadership as Captain." I guess Hawke's heart never gets broken and what's even greater is she gets what she asked for. I laughed so hard i almost choked myself. It's things like these what really made Dragon Age so much fun. Wish it was a lot longer with multiple endings though.

Was there a trophy or accomplishment for this? I'm asking because I don't know too many people that went for her. One, being the fact it was so obvious she would get with the guardsmen guy, and Two, because of the fact she was manlier than "Sir" Wesley. Honestly, how anyone got past the Arnold Schwarzenegger jawline is beyond me.
It could be worse Aveline could of ask "what? did I say something?" after Hawke left I must say I'm surprised with Hawke's emotions in this mostly the whole looking sad at the end I'm just so use to seeing the player character of these types of games where if they wanted to end something it would not look like the reason the player would want to end it but the game ending it on a whim (am I making sense? I hope I am).
There was Varric also, but... =( I just wanted someone nice and able to overcome problems instead of pointing out their personality issues for a mile outside T_T
Nobody’s perfect. If there was no arc for them that you have the opportunity to help them grow especially through their falls, they wouldn’t be that interesting. You shouldn’t put your loved ones on pedestals and should feel free to call them out on when they messed up big time. Especially when they are frustrated and need it most. It would have been nice had Varric or Aveline been options for the sake of pragmatism, but they too are ironically to pragmatic to think just because they like you, it doesn’t mean they’re willing to risk losing you by pushing for more. Love is sadly so complicated and I like that even in a fictional world, it still holds true. It can help us learn and come to terms with our limitations and there are some things you just can push for lest you keep hurting yourself. Plenty of fish in the sea, especially beyond the reef that you’re used to
Don't worry Hawke! Just come up with an elaborate plan that get's Donnic killed but which also ends up starting a big war! Then just romance her while she's grieving! And if that doesn't work, just romance someone younger and more attractive and yet reminds you of her! ...Maybe a relative? Hey if it worked for some other fantasy character (internet cookie for guessing who!), then why not?
Why did they have to make every romance in the game bi? The variety from Origins added depth. Did Bioware seriously receive that many complaints about not being able to get a male romance with Alistair or a female romance with Morrigan?

Granted asari can live for over a thousand years. That still doesn't mean that isn't a considerable amount of time to be living bound to justicar law, and should be so easily thrown away because of some romance nonsense.(which will inevitably end in a few decades; this assumes everything will go perfectly)
