  • Kenny Smith joins The Herd to talk the Golden State Warriors after they win their 4th NBA Championship in 8 years. Colin Cowherd asks Kenny whether he could have predicted the Warriors would be here at the start of the season. Plus, Kenny relives the first time he heard of Stephen Curry, and whether he knew the Warriors' star would be at the level he is today. They also discuss Kevin Durant, and whether the Warriors winning a championship without him makes his decision to leave for Brooklyn look like a bad one. Finally, the two talk movies, as Kenny breaks down his role in the Netflix Basketball film 'Hustle'.

@Beery Preach Brother, only the haters use that narrative, that Steph took a back seat. If Steph had been injured, or not on that team, People would have seen the same KD that was in OKC, an Boston. KD is a great individual talent. For a sport like the NBA, that is a team Sport. KD doesn't get it done on the biggest stages, because he doesn't elevate the players around him like Steph does. With Warriors KD got to just go get buckets, with usually only 1 guy defending him. Even TY Lue said they blitzed Steph because they knew it would be their best chance at winning. Well they didn't shut him down, an he averaged around 30 a gm for the series. While helping KD, Klay an others get really good looks when they scored. Regardless the truth tho, haters are always gonna hate.

Well if it makes you feel better, they're talking about KD with a pitiable tone and narrative. Like what Cowherd said, he was all about winning and he should have stayed with like-minded people instead of being bothered about him never really belonging with the Warriors or that he "cheated". Everyone in the Warriors, including Green, would have welcomed KD choosing to stay. But that didn't matter to him and he's living with it but I think he'll always be okay with it.

The best thing I could say about this title is that hopefully people learn something from it. It is possible to build a nucleus that has championship aspirations and keep it, and not simply trade away everything every off-season in order to win. You know what I'm talking about. Last year, they decided to retool, give a lot of playing time to a bunch of young guys and teach them the system and how to win. The next season, the old guys came back and as we all saw, they won the title.

I'm just hoping as the trio gets older and athleticism and injury free playing time decrease, they don't trade away youth and talent for another star for one more short term gamble at a title.
I think their young guys have enough talent that if the vets and coaches can keep them invested and interested, they will develop very well, stay a great team for 5 or 10 years more, and avoid the standard boom bust cycle most NBA teams go through.

When they showed the Warriors in the preseason vs. Portland, I said this team is prepared to win and have a serious season. I saw the half court offense being ran, guys taking screening seriously, the depth and rebounding was there and then they made the extra pass while helping one another out defensively -- all in a preseason game...so I knew the Warriors were serious and then they just went through the season's ups and downs while getting it done when it mattered most... they had the championship formula already, they just plugged in guys that fit.

@@djskillaz9861 Yeah, when you have a deep team, especially young, during the 82 game season, you have to play bench guys deep minutes to keep the game(s) flowing because you have to build confidence... Kerr didn't have to do that with Levingston, Barbosa, Spates, Ezeli, and others... even next season 2022-23, guys should come up big(er) than this season... I'm really looking forward to seeing that top pick Wiseman because he can shoot the 3 and post up... just needs to stay healthy being assertive... look for drama between he and Green because Green may be jealous of his position -- just saying... Green is like that with guys who are gifted and good, just harder on them because they are new.

This got to do with a finals mvp that everyone been making a big deal. To be honest i think 2015 when they won championship it should have been for steph. The 2 times kevin durant got the finals mvp one of that should have been for steph. Everybody agrees that he is the greatest shooter and change the game of basketball but he is always underrated because of his size. Durant can make an easy shot because of his height but curry will need to make all hard moves before he can make a shot out of double team or triple team impose on him by the opponent. He is so selfish that he let others scores. From the begginning he is always looked down by almost everyone in the media but god is so good that he elevates this guy.
