Yup. Imagine some years from now when we have 3D videos available (not just VR, fully 3D recreations of the environment with textures and everything.) THAT would be literally like a time machine where you can only watch. And the fun thing is that we're just a few decades from that technology.

The music for this game is, by definition, iconic. For me, no other game's soundtrack has come close to capturing what it felt like to grow up in the late 90's - early 2000's. It is abrasively nostalgic.

There is something about the elegance and simplicity of the first game combined to its lonely, sunday afternoon atmosphere that makes it an incredibly enjoyable and memorable experience for me. I just got back to the Sims 1 a few days ago after almost a decade not playing it, and the moment I heard the music from the launcher I was hooked like my 12 years old self was back in the days. I sometimes miss when games used to be more simple and your imagination was filling the gap.

Something about the game graphics in that time... You'd think that today's kids are luckier but I don't feel like that's true. You really didn't need the full 3d environment to feel immersed in the game. The games gave your mind just the right amount of information it needs to fill in the blanks with your imagination and you using that imagination is probably what made these games so enjoyable. Maybe it's similar to reading comic books. Also games like The Sims 1 and Red Alert allowed themselves to have more realistic looking elements than the current ones which is something that helped with the immersion, just look at the furniture and character design in Sims 1.

One thing I'll apprecdiate the Sims 3 for is how they brought back the classical-music vibe to build/buy mode (and inside the rabbit hole buildings like the spa one for instance, actual Sims 1 soundtracks play in there!)
Was hoping Sims 4 would have had some sort of nod towards Sims 1 but if anything it's got a lot of nods to Sims 2's wackiness (which isn't bad!).
I remember when the Sims 2 came out and it was a complete game changer I think EA killed it with the Sims 2 and it started to go a little downhill from there.

My family had a big family party at one of my cousins house and when my sister and I got there my cousins where all playing in one computer creating each other. We got there just on time to make ourselves and we played the entire day and we fell in love with the game. Days later we beg our mom to buy the sims for us until we went out and bought it. Surprisingly my sister didn’t played crazy hours of the sims like I did, staying up until 4am playing this game. 💚

I love love love this game. It just has that “something”, that none of the sequels have. Maybe the “something” was that due to the (cute and well done) graphics, we had to rely on our imagination and had to fill the gaps since not everything was catered to us.
And oh, don’t get me started about the nostalgia…
    And the music!

I remember when my mom randomly came home one day with a huge Sims boxset which included Hot Date and Vacation. I spent HOURS and DAYS on this game. I remember when you could take the music files and copy them to your computer. I burnt a CD with some of the Vacation songs and my ex let me have his copy of Makin Magic (which I still have) and there were so many good tunes on that, that I burned it to a CD as well. I even remember being able to take music of your own and put it in the music files so the Sims could turn on their stereo and jam to Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson or Britney Spears, whatever you wanted. lmao. Once newer Sims games came out, I downloaded them to my laptop and the job I used to have was a 12hr job where sometimes I could stay in the office and have downtime to play this to let the time pass. It was such a great time waster and I loved it. I play the Sims 4 now and I know I've dished out hundreds of dollars for all the expansion packs and kits....and I don't regret it.
EDIT: Forgot to add, I'll never forget Drew Carey coming to my house after having a banging good party. I called my mom in to see it (we watched Whose Line Is It Anyway? a lot) and that was definitely one of the more fond memories I have of the game being unique to me.
