    Cut-Rate Commander - Precon Upgrade Guide for Tinker Time & Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy from March of the Machine #mtg #commander #edh #mtgmom #mtgmachine
    Its looks it the battle for the Aetherflux Reservoir is still raging on Kaladesh as the Phyrexian Invasion of the Multiverse continues in March of the Machine - and while the fighting is fierce, the city of Ghirapur's defenders have found themselves a strange but powerful new ally in Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy - the not only sentient, but genius level Gremlin - who has brought his impressive Aether inventions to bear against Jin Gitaxias's Chrome Host.
    In this precon upgrade, we'll be aiming to make the passive Gremlin Token's our commander creates as big and powerful as possible by going all in on unique token creation - which we'll do so by adding in various sources of unique artifact token types to the build that we'll be using both to make Gimbal's tokens more power and to provide us with additional utility and/or board presence, as well as adding in a few ways to double up on Gimbal's token creation to get us even more of his creations on to play. From there - after also be swapping in even more ways for us to weaponize our artifact tokens outside of intended uses to either generate value or inflict damage - we're left with a build that can easily flood the board with artifact tokens and use said tokens to either slowly generate a bigger and bigger board presence via our commander, or that we can instead mass animate and swing in with to try to end the game in one powerful swing.
    Let me know if the comments below if you agree with my choices and/or what you would add to the deck instead. Also, let me know know who you would like to see next by voting on in the comments on the three choices of commander listed at the end of the video.

    Yeeees. Loving the breakdown and most of the additions/cuts that you made here (and thankfully acquired some of those additions ahead of time). It certainly has a lot more synergy and overall 'health' compared to before, not to mention a proper variety of unique tokens for Gimbal to experiment and munch on.
    Clearly a lot of work was put into each precon and elevated them up to, and beyond, some of the previously precons that were highly rated. Good stuff!

    This was exactly what I was looking for! an indepth video on Gimbal's deck upgrade. The little guy caught my eye when I saw a friend of mine got him from a Prerelease pack. I traded him out of sheer curiosity for the card and immediately loved it. I recently bought the Precon and feel like its generally weak. Of course, I haven't had much time to play with it yet and the first time I took it for a spin was against an Adrix and nev + Essix precon (and I got my ass kicked and thopters stolen...) But I really feel that with a bit of tinkering it can get WAY better. I usually play commander and Krenko and multiple times I find my strategy broken by him getting sniped and my engine stalling. I fear with this deck the same might happen (at least in the context of the group I play in and the decks my friends use) Is there any way to protect more Gimbal or at least avoid him getting KIA? Should I worry about it?

      Ik I’m late but if you ended up upgrading the deck with Grazzets recommendations how does the deck run now if you don’t mind my asking? I’m looking into getting Tinker time because I want an artifact deck and was curious if its worth it as is, and as upgraded (due to me being slow with upgrading decks due to price and availability). Thanks!

      To be fair, these precon decks are TOO oppressive - so hopefully your playgroup will be understanding. And if not, they have no one to blame but themselves (and me because of the precon upgrades I suggested and you because you added those upgrades, BUT mostly themselves!)!

    Instead Of Goblin Kaboomist I added Sliversmith. I’m trying to find a couple more spots for other adds but I started with your budget list and loved it so slowly upgraded more and more. I also added Faerie Artisans which will get you different artifact tokens are the creatures your opponents are playing and such. It’s another fun include. Instead of Doubling Season I just added Parallel Lives because I had a copy.

      Yeah, I don't like it either when I get "baited" into a precon upgrade for a deck and then it's for the alternate commander - so I always stick to the face commander for my precon upgrades and tackle the alternate commander later in the polls.

    Great additions to the deck. I felt this precon was one of (if not THE) weakest deck of this precon cycle. It's good to see the deck looking a lot livelier now.
    Also, I still find it weird that Banana's are artifacts. And that they are somehow seperate from Food (which also are artifacts) even though one of the Food tokens have a banana visible on them. I guess this is just the world we live in.

      Glad to hear you enjoyed it and agree with the changes I made to elevate it a bit!
      What's even weirder is that WotC never made an official token for Banana's either, resulting in any decks with Kibo in them to run custom tokens to keep track of them (or actual banana's if you want some added flavor).

    Hey Grazz, would bootleggers stash be a good include, and if so, what card should I sub out for it?

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад +1

      Bootleggers Stash is in interesting choice - on the one hand it can get us a LOT of artifact tokens into play in the form of treasures, which is good for the artifact animation gameplan (plus the ramp of course) but on the other hand, it costs 6, making it slow, and gives us access to a token we already have a decent number of sources for already.
      In case you want to slot it in the build, I would say maybe Gala Greeters would be a good one to swap out for it - since they both create treasure tokens, with the Gala Greeters giving the build a better early game and Bootleggers Stash giving it a better end game.
      Hope that helps!

    Is it Tinker Time? I think it's Tinker Time. Why is it so fun to say Tinker Time out loud? Eh, guess it's just Tinker Time being Tinker Time. But as a better Tinker Time. Amazing upgrade as always!
    As for my vote, it goes to The Jeskai Saint Traft Convoke Jank Machine. Why? Because it's a Convoke/tap-based commander that makes tokens WITH NO GREEN ON IT. It's begging for the Grazzet treatment at this point.
    Day 618 of waiting for the face reveal. Oh hey, we're one day away from the Rey Misterio number. Thoughts on wrestling?

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад

      I certainly enjoyed tinkering with Tinker Time this time, so I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it as well!
      Saint Traft and Rem Karolus are certainly a fun looking build around - as once the game plan get going, the 12 bodies they can produce a turn is nothing to scoff at!
      As far as wrestling is concerned, I am a fan but rarely get a chance to dedicate any time to watching it since I have so much on my plate already. I'll occasionally watch Ups and Downs from whatculture wrestling (Simon Miller is a excellent presenter) to catch up on all the stuff. These days I'm leaning more towards AEW than WWE though - since Vinny Mac is back in the company and messing with creative again (him being gone was probably the best thing that happened to WWE in a while).

      I didn't think about that but in theory it can work - since Godo can search up the helm for us and if he's dealt with, we can put it on Gimbal to get extra triggers off his clones. I may have to try that out and see how reliable it would be! Thanks for the suggestion!

    I know it's considered the worst deck in that set. I bought it because I usually buy those kinds of low-expectation decks. While I've made changes, some similar to yours, I'm thrilled to see how no one expects the deck to have such a resource-rich board. If you focus the deck on having at least 1 food, 1 clue, 1 test, and 1 toptero; with Gimbal all gremlin enter at least as +5/+5... and not counting the other "unique" tokens. You end up slashing with an Orrerun

    I have to say I do not agree with about 30-40% of the cuts (e.g. some of our wincons, which the deck is anyhow already struggling with). For example: Master of Etherium is a strong beater (with Trample, if we have the commander out) for cheap on its own, but with Masterful Replication will most likely end the game on the spot. Or Junk Winder, who will mostly cost UU and will stun/detain a big part of the opponents board (every token counts here, not only creatures). Especially the replacement you make for it is very weak in my oppinion. Why we want to pay 2G to get a servo? Ok for 4G we get a bigger token, which is a unique token name added, but its 6 mana overall to get one - and our 1/2 creature has to live at least one turn cycle to get the value out of it.
    I feel you tried to go too heavy into the "get all tokens with different names" category. Yes, our Gremlins will be bigger, but we only get one per turn (or maybe two if we double the trigger). These are of course nice, but I do not see you winning with these very often.
    That being said, I like most of the rest of the upgrades (like 60%-70%), but wanted to point out some of the odd choices in my oppinion.

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад +3

      Glad to hear you agreed with most of my chnage and those are totally fair criticism's that I in agree with to a certain extent.
      Master of Etherium is indeed a fantastic payoff for our artifact heavy build and, if cloned, can indeed win us the game handily between it and its clones huge stat-blocks and the multiple anthems in would bring to the table to power up our other token creatures (all of which have trample thanks to Gimbal). In this build however, since we don't have a critical mass of clone effects to do the latter and, just like Gimbal, we already need an established board state to make it into a threat in the first place, I opted to cut it in favor of Sai, Master Thopterist as more passive evasive artifact token creation and the ability to dig deeper into our deck for the means to enable our commander.
      Junk Winder is even better, and I even admitted so in the video as a very strong contender to keep in the deck for the amount of reliable disruption, though ultimately I settled on Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter as another means to get large tokens on the board alongside our commander (whose 1 a turn is generally not enough to get the job done), as I felt this deck "gimmick" is more geared towards building up our board than disrupting our opponents.
      That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping in Master of Etherium and Junk Winder in the build - they are both very solid payoffs for our artifact token heavy build and, if you feel like you have too many enablers and not enough payoffs, then these will serve you quite nicely.
