    Cut-Rate Commander - Precon Upgrade Guide for Growing Threat & Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos from March of the Machine #mtg #commander #edh #mtgmom #mtgmachine
    It appears that Brimaz has been reborn as Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos upon his compleation at the hands of the Invading Phyrexian forces in March of the Machine and is now leading his newly converted people into battle against the last remaining bastion of Meletis on Theros for the glory of New Phyrexia!
    In this precon upgrade, we'll be primarily focused on rebalancing the deck (which is quite disjointed out of the box between its Phyrexian/Artifact creature themes) into a pure Phyrexian Tribal build with a counter subtheme to better take advantage of the Phyrexian on death proliferate that our commander provides. So of course, we'll be cutting nearly all the non-phyrexian artifact creatures in the core build and adding in more Phyrexian sources of incubator tokens to build up our board further, Phyexian counter generators (+1/+1, Oil, charge) and distributers (poison) to set the groundwork for our commanders proliferate, and Phyrexian Mite Token generators to use as sac fodder/death triggers and/or distribute even more poison for Brimaz to multiply - until our incubators grow too large for our opponents to deal with or they instead succumb to the poison (counters) in their veins - whatever comes first.
    Let me know if the comments below if you agree with my choices and/or what you would add to the deck instead. Also, let me know know who you would like to see next by voting on in the comments on the three choices of commander listed at the end of the video.

    Something that I’ve been doing is making it so you can recast some your creatures by returning them to your hand, so I’m running Erratic Portal (4 cost artifact with 1 tap; return target creature to its owners hand unless controller pays 1) and also though not too important Wall of Junk (2 cost 0/7 creature with defender with When this creature blocks, return it to your hand at the end of combat). There’s also Cloudstone Curio which I haven’t totally decided if I want yet but it is likely. Also Phyrexian reclamation is good for revival. Also, though a little iffy and expensive, Sigarda’s summon can make all your Incubator token creatures into giant flyers.

      I mean, to be fair, those 2 in particular are STILL very hard to cast - so there may be instances where they are dead in you hand (particularly in the early game). That said, if you going to be upgrades the build already, swapping our come basics for shock lands, check lands, and pain lands are going to make that a lot less of a problem while also improving the builds consistency overall as well.

    Much like the knights precon, Cover of Darkness is also an upgrade to look at. Phyrexians only being blocked by their own kind is greatly effective evasion, whether it is a large scuttle of mites rushing to bite or the larger members causing noises with various limbs to disorientate opponents.

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад +1

      Good suggestion! The ability to give tribal AOE evasion is always a powerful tool to have access to in a attack focused build - particularly to enable alpha strikes against opponents after we've brought our incubator tokens online! That $40+ price though is a bit steep.... Hopefully it gets a reprint at some point.

    so love how you balance the deck, now one card that i feel has a big potential synergy with the deck, is "Karn Living Legacy". is has the ability to generat ramp by creating Powerstones that can be used to transform the tokens, give you draw, and by the end you get the ability to tap your tokens to deal damage.

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад +1

      Karn, Living Legacy could indeed make a fine addition - especially since, with all the proliferating we'll be doing, we can get to his ult in single rotation. Good suggestion!

  • @MalteLewandowski

    Nice video - I agree, they should have added way more phyrexians in the Precon.
    On thing to note is, that the Germ tokens are now Phyrexians, so Scytheclaw is not as bad as it seems. ;)

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад +2

      Fair - since we can just re-equip it to something else and get a free proliferate for Brimaz without using a sac outlet. Good point!

    • @benrichardson5662
      @benrichardson5662 6 месяцев назад

      They wanted to show that you could go the artifact route too. It's an interesting idea but I don't think Brimaz benefits from that because his proliferate trigger cares about Phyrexians and relying on the Incubate tokens to proc it is counterproductive since they're what we want to be proliferating and while we make a lot of them, it's not enough to make the most of the trigger potentially going off in each end step.

    I bought this precon with the intention of making it a really funky phyrexian tribal deck and I’ve been looking at a few different upgrade guides for some ideas and I gotta say I really like the choices you’ve made here.
    Down the road I plan on putting the OG and MOM Elesh Norn for the anthem and token support respectively, as well as a few different older Phyrexians for some on flavour additions like Yawgmoth.

      While I do think there is a artifact creature dedicated build that would work here, personally I feel going full Phyrexians is the way to go to get the most mileage out of both parts of Brimaz's ability.
      And I agree 100% with Elish Norn and Elish Norn, Grand Cenobite as great additions to the build (which I recommended as upgrades due to price).

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад +1

      Yeah, the fact that you can simple leave your incubators as non-creatures is actually a pretty big deterrent for you opponents against them using creature based wipes, sicne if you have mana open, you it costs you only 2 mana a pop to bring (potentially) gigantic beaststicks online and attack in with them while most of the tables shields are down.

    An addition that I really wanted to put into this style of a upgrade of the pre-con was 'Darksteel Reactor'. Not really efficient or honestly scary even with one proliferate per turn, but thought it matched the theme of "Growing Threat". Combine that with 'Archfiend of the Dross' and all of sudden there are three slowly growing threats; life loss, poison and the ever ticking clock of the Reactor.
    Then again I always prioritize flavor/theme over efficiency 😅

      I mean, Darksteel Reactor isn't a bad choice to run in a proliferate themed deck like this one as yet another wincon for us to try to get to - so I can definitely see a place for it, though probably in a more artifact dedicated build than this Phyrexian version.

      I would certainly say so! Because it been errated into a Phyrexian Wurm, we now get the death trigger proliferate for it when it dies, on top of the 6/6 incubator token when it ETB's, and it gets us 2 more Phyrexian bodies to proliferate even more later. That, coupled with the handful of reanimation spells we're running so we can bring it back to do it again, makes it a superb addition in my book!

      Yep - this one need quite the overhaul - possible more than any other precon upgrade I had to tackle - but I think it turned out pretty well all things considered, so I'm glad you think so too!

    Would Felicia fang of silver quill? Be good in this deck and tesya karlov?

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад

      Felisa, Fang of Silverquill may not bee too impactful in this build, as she only procs off of nontoken creatures dying and we don't have TOO many reliable ways to get +1/+1 counters on our non-incubator tokens in the build. And Teysa Karlov is a trap here, since Brimaz will not get to trigger twice since its a delayed trigger, which Tesya will not see and anything did die in that instance to trigger it.
      Hope that helps!

    Ok im gonna be honest how you upgrade the deck (the swaps) thats how the deck should have been built in the first place because when i saw the list it was more artifact matters rather than phyrexian tribal
    so this is a amazing upgrade video

      Im a bit ticked off how WotC handled these precons. The only one that was decent in terms of consistent gameplay was the Calvary Charge. They left out a LOT of incubator creatures that they could have easily added to this deck. And the creatures arent even that expensive. Its just asinine.

    So for some reason on card trader im told that the some or the cards in this set are not tournament legal ? Do you have any clue why that is ? Im new to mtg and was looking for a phyrexian deck and this definitely seems fun.
    I mostly just like them for aestethics but i dont want to invest money into something if i cant actually play it.
    Cant find anything on ban lists so im just stumped. :/

    Question, if two Phyrexians die during your turn do you proliferate twice?

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад +2

      You do not. It only checks on the end step if a Phyrexian died and then triggers, regardless of how many die. It does however check EVERY end step, so if Phyrexian we control dies on an opponents end step, we still get to proliferate.
      Hope that helps!

    You should add The Ozolith and make it a $100 upgrade and cut a non Phyrexian for it. Seems players blow up big incubated Phyrexian a when they flip however you can move the counters back to the Ozolith and move them back at the next combat ;)

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  Год назад

      While I won't be changing the price cap of my Precon Upgrade Guides again (had to bump it from $65 to $75 already due to WotC increasing the prices), I do agree that the Ozolith is a fantastic addition to the build - making so even if are opponents are able to destroy our incubators, their counters will never go to waste. Very good suggestion!

    Greetings from Costa Rica sir. I discovered your channel last week and I have to say I've been liking it a lot. Your approach to each deck is very different and original from others and I also like how you provide a brief lore for the Commander at the beginning. Keep up the good work.
