Awesome effort! Busso was my first Ironman and second triathlon, the swim was hell and I absolutely cooked myself doing a 1hr swim, hopped on the bike, had no salt and cramped my way to a 5:09 bike leg. Then hopped off the bike and immediately thought it was a great idea to run 4:10s for the first 10km because it was cold and my hr wasn’t up. Then bonked, prayed to god for help with cramps, found salt tabs on the floor, smashed them, kept going for the next 2 laps (complete blur). Then realised I had 50mins with 10km to go for a sub 10. Kept pushing, prayed some more for help, then nearly blacked out with about 3km left, nearly got pulled off the course. Kept pushing, looked at my watch and somehow had more time than I realised, sprinted to the finish for a 9:56! You are one of my favourite Aussie RUclipsrs in the fitness world, would have loved to have met you if I’d have known you were there! Bring on next year, sub-9!
All these years I’ve been wondering how is he so strong and powerful, today he spilled the beans…. Mid 2000’s balance band , everyone go out and get one if you want to race like Lachie! 😂
Another excellent video, great work! Can you do a video (or series) on getting comfortable with open water swimming? I am a strong lap swimmer in the pool, and often swim in lakes/rivers, but just treading/playing. I did a triathlon a couple years ago and only trained in the pool, and when it came to the river swim I wasn't able to freestyle, and ended up doggy paddling most of it. Would love to do another, but this has been holding me back. Thanks!
Great job mate! Amazing time in what sounds like a really tough day! Just a thought, do you think it’s possible that your lower power output on the bike could possibly be linked to your decrease in swim training and so coming out of the water less fresh??? I know being strong and fit on the bike definitely relates to a strong run, could be the same with the swim and ride??? 👍
Possibly, hadn’t thought about that I think in the days leading up I just didn’t feel like my legs were firing on the bike though. I think it’s just a slightly mistimed taper that made me not in the best bike form
