If you found yourself in a shoot out, it was usually over within 3-5 shots. Even today with modern handguns, you seldom see shootings extending to a reload. Even active shooters being taken down are usually taken down without reloading.

Despite Ocelot reloading is the best time to attack him, I have one rule when fighting him: I never attack him in his first reload when he says how he loves to reload during a battle. I let him explain his love for it without interruption.

Back then people were commonly mod-chipping Playstations which enabled them to play burned games (My own uncle did it for me, I didn't appreciate the ramifications of piracy in those days), and you'd commonly find people sharing burned copies of PS1 games in generic cases without artwork. So if you had one of those burned copies of Metal Gear Solid, let's say, if you didn't have the case, you'd be stuck when you reached that part of the game because the case didn't have the image on the back showing you the codec frequency to contact meryl. This was one of the most recent variations on a pretty old piracy prevention practice in the industry. This was when the internet was in its infancy and "just google it" was a phrase no one knew yet.

He said local markets sold burned games for $3 to $5 american dollars. Needless to say we each got basically the whole playstation library during those times lol it was awesome but during games like these we had to get the info from friends who had the game. Although this was one of the only game I remember having that trouble with.

The only thing from this conversation that stuck with me aside from the ones involved directly in the plot was the definition of "Black Budget", haha. Also, I compared with the Twin Snakes version. Could be nostalgia, but I find the increased complexity of the cutscene fights there to be overblown and exaggerated. Here Snake just jumps back. There, he has to do a backflip? Fox also lingers for too long with that ridiculous fight with Snake. His sudden appearance here, brief stay, then crazy erratic disappearance made him much more mysterious and suspenseful. Again, could just be my nostalgia, but I'll take this one despite the graphics being so limited they have to bob their heads to make it look like they're talking. Also they changed Fox's voice actor. I mean, I'm a Rob Paulsen fan, don't get me wrong. Between Saber Rider, The Mask cartoon, Mighty Max, and all that other good stuff. But Greg Eagles' Fox was iconic. :(
I still prefer the PS 1 version to Twin Snakes, maybe it´s just my nostalgia bias but i think that the PS 1 version has better voice acting and less unrealistic action moves during cutscenes when you compare it to Twin Snakes
I prefer the ps1 version too. But TTS cutscenes were directed by Ryuheu Kitamura. If you watched his movies you'd understand that's his style. If Kojima chose to work with him they probably wanted a flavor of his cinema that reinterpreted how these super soldiers fights could be. Also maybe just an appeal to Japanese fans.
When you beat the game, as most of you probably know, you get the option to watch a "movie" of all the cutscenes and codecs. I got my mom to watch it with me :D I loved it and she thought it was OK hahaha The voice acting in this is so enjoyable and memorable !! edit: just realized that the "movie" option might have only been on the Greatest Hits version lol
What I love about this scene is how Ocelot kind've eluded to his connection to Big Boss. He talks about how Snake has the same codename as the Boss. At first, you think he's talking about Liquid Snake but then you realize that Big Boss was Naked Snake so he's actually talking about Big Boss. When I played this game in my younger days I never caught onto any of this, but now after playing MGS3 and MGS5, it all makes sense.

so im playing metal gear solid for the first time ever in november of 2023 (via emulation) in my defende though when mgs came out i was a young man working alot so didnt have a lot of time for video games but i remember my buddys and even some co workers talking about how great it was to be quite honest mgs is one of the few games ive heard about and actually played and feel like it actually lives up to the hype dont know if ill finish it or not but i do like it and reccomend it

You're completely right the Twin Snakes pretty much messed up every cutscene, the dialogue feels weaker and the new soundtrack is kinda forgettable

so im playing metal gear solid for the first time ever in november of 2023

when mgs came out i was a young man working alot so didnt have a lot of time for video games but i remember my buddys and even some co workers talking about how great it was to be quite honest mgs is one of the few games ive heard about and actually played and feel like it actually lives up to the hype dont know if ill finish it or not but i do like it and reccomend it
