The war hadn't yet started - and we were so young - so naive - so in love. We explored cities like archeologists in search of undiscovered wonders, staying up late - dancing until you said your feet were too tied to stand - drank Champagne for breakfast, sitting sidewalk at street cafes with other all-nighters, feeding cats that had waited patiently for friendly hand-outs. You were so beautiful that older men, upon seeing you wept, perhaps remembering their lost youth. You smiled at them, and waved - and once you stood and kissed a white-haired gentleman wearing a tux on the cheek, brushing away his tears, saying, "Never forget the past - it's just time reminding you of all those wonderful moments that are yours forever!" Having their morning coffee, but overhearing what you said, some ladies stood and applauded. From inside the cafe we heard the voice of Jessie Matthews singing 'Look For The Silver Lining'. Just then, an elderly waiter appeared and gave us two fresh-out- of-the-oven croissants to enjoy with our Champagne. The radio inside began playing Hutch Cole singing 'Let's fall in love.' We had, and couldn't stop looking into each others eyes...but that was so long ago...and I'm sure I've left out the best parts...but I'll never forget...and because of you...Past Perfect...maybe the music will always be there...Thank you for the memories.

When I listen to music like this I too feel the same. Tapping into the memories of the past, was it my past perhaps in another past? Not sure but this is art in audio format
A pretty dark hair young slim girl gets ready for a local dance. Softy playing in the background, the wireless ser plays tunes of the moment. Hair and make up all done , the young lady sets off on the start of the greatest adventure of her young life. Tonight , my mum meets my dad and the adventure begins only ending in death 40 years later. Thanks mum and dad.love you.,,
Yes thank you for the comment. I often think how strong our parents were during the depression and Will. Oops You are probably young.i am 76 and this music meant so much to them
Fun fact: the ship pictured is the SS Nieuw Amsterdam, former flagship of the Holland America Line, built in 1938. She was a beautiful liner in her day!
GREAT MEMORIES IN THIS LOT AS I WAS A YOUNG BOY IN WW2 AND REMEMBER THESE LOVELY SONGS PASSIONATELY. THANK YOU FOR PRESERVING A NICE LOT HERE, SO RELAXING.
Thank you. My wife died a few years ago. Thank you for such wonderful songs and tunes. It makes me remember the past like these. We went on tons of ocean liners together! Thank you so much!
My dad’s parents met in the early 1930’s. My Poppa Roc would every once in awhile sing “It’s Only A Paper Moon to my Nanny Rose. I thought, even as a little girl, it was the sweetest and most romantic thing I ever heard. They’re long gone but on the rare occasion I hear that song, I think of them and their enduring love.

The utterly vibrant twenties and thirties, a brief respite from the dreadful years just past and the unthinkable Armageddon waiting for her generation in the wings. Edouard

I couldn’t have worded it better! What a wonderful blessing of something to behold our soul through our keen ears. What a God that could bring such a beautiful blessing: music!
These songs make me remember The queen Mary. I was on her 2nd last voyage. What a ship. She was a wonder! I danced with my girl friend in the ball room to songs like these. Ah, The days.
Its so weird Im feeling my heart about to jump suffocating Im about to cry 😢 . Vintage songs photos and stuff makes me want to go find where I really belong
I'm a different generation to you but I, too, have always loved vintage music from the first half of the 20th century and have long felt I was born into the wrong time.
I'm now in my 50's... Born in late 60's... So obviously I wasn't in "that" Era... But some how... Hearing this music takes me to a Beautiful place of Nostalgia that I've never been to... Happy Smile on my face... Yes! When I was a kid I did see many a times my Mom and Dad Fox-trot, Waltz and Jive to these songs... We had a 6 recond(vinyls) changer (mono ofcourse) (HMV) with a whole lota records 33's, 78's and 45's... Beautiful Day!!!! Was lovely to see all the old timers dancing to these song...
Both of my parent were wonderful dancing partners. They so appreciated the big bands. Many couples met their mate at the dance halls popular during the 30s and 40s.
"I travel alone" fits my current situation to a tee! "The happiness I've known alone." Life is so much better without companions! Life alone is so underrated! I love being on my own without having to deal with, or having to put up with, others! It truly is bliss! I've been traveling for 3 years on the road alone! Like a reverie! It is perfect! Great music, btw!
These beautiful renditions presented a fantasy about the way life could have been. Even though I'm too young to have lived during the 30's and 40's, I have always enjoyed this musical genre and very much appreciate Past Perfect for making these available. Thank you.
I'm 48 and I love it. My grandmother played a station in Chicago...wjjd and it played big band and jazz. I made fun of it as a kid but now when I listen I think of her and smile, realizing this music is awesome 👌
I just discovered this music by accident. I who have always loved this period of 1920, 30, 40 and... the Middle Ages. I am delighted to listen and let myself be carried away by these interpretations. I let myself go to my sewing and embroidery and my thoughts fly to this beautiful era of the Roaring Twenties, these "art deco" decorations, this time when there were values and respect for the well done, Thank you for us make these works available.
That song reminds me of dancing with my sugar cup in 1984. This song was on my grandpa's birthday. One of the last times i saw my grandpa before he passed. Oh my pretty girl was exellent that night. One of the best songs.

I was born in the 60s and when I was growing up they played a lot of movies on tv from this era and I loved it. With some of the films/musicals, they played similar music to this and I fell in love with it all over again. This is the music I want to tap dance too. Thanks for sharing.

I love all of these songs, but damn some of them are just gorgeous! I listen to this every day while I do homework; truly a wonderful collection of songs :)
I've been going through the various albums you have here and it's something I've been looking for for ages and never found until now. Just the feeling and atmosphere of the 20s and 30s and even 40s, even though the forties was halted by the war. It's marvellous and I don't know how to thank you enough. I wondered if it was only me who loved this era and the music which represents it so well. I'm working my way through the whole lot. Is there existing a line of cds etc., that you sell through commercial outlets, under the ame of Past Perfect that I can ask for? Or is this your main outlet?
I adore this era. I have friends round for dinner, set a beautiful table, candles, lovely place settings and play music like this. My house is art deco themed. I just love everything about the period. Glamour, finesse, elegance and an ability to live in the moment.
@kbrigsby61 I would be delighted to invite you for a candlelit soiree. Dress smart...none of this tracksuit and trainers malarkey that people now think is acceptable dinner attire. We shall drink wine from crystal glasses 🥰
@@acechadwick We never got around to it, did we? What a shame, but we can think about it, can't we? PS: I don't do trackie daks and trainers. I'm past all that. I love wine from the best crystal no plastic stuff for me, it doesn't taste the same.
I like the ones that are jazz oriented. Especially "And so do I" by Elizabeth Welch and "I wished on the moon", by Ruth Etting. It is not nostalgia with me - not that there's anything wrong with it - it's just the music. It's good music. I love hearing songs I've never heard before done by people I've heard of, also songs I've heard done by people I've never heard of. One Past Perfect album has "Deep in a Dream" with Greta Keller. In all these years I have heard only one version of that song. By Chet Baker. I even developed a liking for Hutch. He sings some songs I have never heard before, and I've heard my share. I enjoy these compilations and again thank you for putting them together with thoughtfulness.

Just fabulous - I bought both of Christine Norden's songs "When You Smile (at Me)" and "I'm Not in Love" - absolutely love these !! Thank you !! Would be nice if I could find the lyrics and charts for these - any help would be grand.
I listen to these beautiful songs, massaging my girlfriends feet on the couch.she always drifts off and I think of dancing cheek to cheek with her in the grand ballroom on a liner. Bliss
Was working in a dept.
